1 L embre-se do seu Criador nos dias da sua juventude, antes que venham os dias difíceis e se aproximem os anos em que você dirá: “Não tenho satisfação neles”;

Remember also your Maker while you are young, before the days of trouble come and the years when you will say, “I have no joy in them,”

2 a ntes que se escureçam o sol e a luz, a lua e as estrelas, e as nuvens voltem depois da chuva;

before the sun, the light, the moon and the stars are made dark, and clouds return after the rain.

3 q uando os guardas da casa tremerem e os homens fortes caminharem encurvados; quando pararem os moedores por serem poucos, e aqueles que olham pelas janelas enxergarem embaçado;

This will be the day when the men who watch the house shake in fear. Strong men bow. Those who grind will stop because they are few. And the eyes of those who look through windows will not see well.

4 q uando as portas da rua forem fechadas e diminuir o som da moagem; quando o barulho das aves o fizer despertar, mas o som de todas as canções lhe parecer fraco;

The doors on the street will be shut when the sound of the grinding is no more. One will rise up at the sound of a bird. All the daughters of song will sing very low.

5 q uando você tiver medo de altura, e dos perigos das ruas; quando florir a amendoeira, o gafanhoto for um peso e o desejo já não se despertar. Então o homem se vai para o seu lar eterno, e os pranteadores já vagueiam pelas ruas.

Men will be afraid of a high place and of fears on the road. Flowers will grow on the almond tree. The grasshopper will pull himself along. And desire will be at an end. For man will go to his home that lasts forever, while people filled with sorrow go about in the street.

6 S im, lembre-se dele, antes que se rompa o cordão de prata, ou se quebre a taça de ouro; antes que o cântaro se despedace junto à fonte, a roda se quebre junto ao poço,

Remember Him before the silver rope of life is broken and the gold dish is crushed. Remember Him before the pot by the well is broken and the wheel by the water-hole is crushed.

7 o pó volte à terra, de onde veio, e o espírito volte a Deus, que o deu.

Then the dust will return to the earth as it was. And the spirit will return to God Who gave it.

9 A lém de ser sábio, o mestre também ensinou conhecimento ao povo. Ele escutou, examinou e colecionou muitos provérbios.

Besides being a wise man, the Preacher also taught the people much learning. He thought about, and looked for, and put together many wise sayings.

10 P rocurou também encontrar as palavras certas, e o que ele escreveu era reto e verdadeiro.

The Preacher looked to find pleasing words and to write words of truth in the right way.

11 A s palavras dos sábios são como aguilhões, a coleção dos seus ditos como pregos bem fixados, provenientes do único Pastor.

The words of wise men are like a stick. Their gathered sayings are like well-driven nails given by one Shepherd.

12 C uidado, meu filho; nada acrescente a eles. Não há limite para a produção de livros, e estudar demais deixa exausto o corpo.

But more than this, my son, be careful. There is no end to the writing of many books and reading many of them makes the body tired.

13 A gora que já se ouviu tudo, aqui está a conclusão: Tema a Deus e obedeça aos seus mandamentos, porque isso é o essencial para o homem.

The last word, after all has been heard, is: Honor God and obey His Laws. This is all that every person must do.

14 P ois Deus trará a julgamento tudo o que foi feito, inclusive tudo o que está escondido, seja bom, seja mau.

For God will judge every act, even everything which is hidden, both good and bad.
