Abraham took another wife whose name was Keturah.

2 E la lhe deu os seguintes filhos: Zinrã, Jocsã, Medã, Midiã, Isbaque e Suá.

She gave birth to his sons, Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

3 J ocsã gerou Sabá e Dedã; os descendentes de Dedã foram os assuritas, os letusitas e os leumitas.

Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.

4 O s filhos de Midiã foram Efá, Éfer, Enoque, Abida e Elda. Todos esses foram descendentes de Quetura.

The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah.

5 A braão deixou tudo o que tinha para Isaque.

Abraham gave all he had to Isaac.

6 M as para os filhos de suas concubinas deu presentes; e, ainda em vida, enviou-os para longe de Isaque, para a terra do oriente.

But while he was still living, Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the women he kept who acted as his wives. And he sent them to the land of the East, away from his son Isaac.

7 A braão viveu cento e setenta e cinco anos.

Abraham lived 175 years.

8 M orreu em boa velhice, em idade bem avançada, e foi reunido aos seus antepassados.

Then Abraham breathed his last and died, after living a long and full life of many good years, and was buried with his people.

9 S eus filhos, Isaque e Ismael, o sepultaram na caverna de Macpela, perto de Manre, no campo de Efrom, filho de Zoar, o hitita,

His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the grave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, east of Mamre.

These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their towns and by their groups of tents, twelve rulers and their families.

17 I smael viveu cento e trinta e sete anos. Morreu e foi reunido aos seus antepassados.

Ishmael lived 137 years. Then he breathed his last and died, and was buried with his people.

18 S eus descendentes se estabeleceram na região que vai de Havilá a Sur, próximo à fronteira com o Egito, na direção de quem vai para Assur. E viveram em hostilidade contra todos os seus irmãos. Esaú e Jacó

His people lived from Havilah as far as Shur, east of Egypt on the way toward Assyria. He lived away from all his brothers. The Birth of Esau and Jacob

19 E sta é a história da família de Isaque, filho de Abraão: Abraão gerou Isaque,

These are the children and their children’s children of Abraham’s son Isaac. Abraham was the father of Isaac.

20 o qual aos quarenta anos se casou com Rebeca, filha de Betuel, o arameu de Padã-Arã, e irmã de Labão, também arameu.

Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan-aram, and the sister of Laban the Syrian.

21 I saque orou ao Senhor em favor de sua mulher, porque era estéril. O Senhor respondeu à sua oração, e Rebeca, sua mulher, engravidou.

Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she could not give birth and the Lord answered him. Rebekah was able to give birth.

22 O s meninos se empurravam dentro dela, pelo que disse: “Por que está me acontecendo isso?” Foi então consultar o Senhor.

But the babies within her fought together. And she said, “If this is so, why am I like this?” She went to ask the Lord why.

23 D isse-lhe o Senhor: “Duas nações estão em seu ventre, já desde as suas entranhas dois povos se separarão; um deles será mais forte que o outro, mas o mais velho servirá ao mais novo”.

The Lord said to her, “Two nations are within you. Two peoples will be divided from your body. One will be stronger than the other. And the older will serve the younger.”

24 A o chegar a época de dar à luz, confirmou-se que havia gêmeos em seu ventre.

When the day came for her to give birth, there were two babies to be born.

25 O primeiro a sair era ruivo, e todo o seu corpo era como um manto de pêlos; por isso lhe deram o nome de Esaú.

The first to come out was red and he had hair all over his body. They gave him the name of Esau.

26 D epois saiu seu irmão, com a mão agarrada no calcanhar de Esaú; pelo que lhe deram o nome de Jacó. Tinha Isaque sessenta anos de idade quando Rebeca os deu à luz.

Then the brother was born. His hand was holding Esau’s heel. So he was given the name of Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them. Esau Sells His Birth-Right

27 O s meninos cresceram. Esaú tornou-se caçador habilidoso e vivia percorrendo os campos, ao passo que Jacó cuidava do rebanho e vivia nas tendas.

When the boys grew older, Esau became a good hunter, a man of the field. But Jacob was a man of peace, living in tents.

28 I saque preferia Esaú, porque gostava de comer de suas caças; Rebeca preferia Jacó.

Isaac showed favor to Esau, because he liked to eat the meat of the animals Esau killed. But Rebekah showed favor to Jacob.

29 C erta vez, quando Jacó preparava um ensopado, Esaú chegou faminto, voltando do campo,

As Jacob was getting food ready one day, Esau came in from the field and was very hungry.

30 e pediu-lhe: “Dê-me um pouco desse ensopado vermelho aí. Estou faminto!” Por isso também foi chamado Edom.

Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red meat, for I am very hungry.” That is why his name was called Edom.

31 R espondeu-lhe Jacó: “Venda-me primeiro o seu direito de filho mais velho”.

But Jacob said, “First, sell me your birth-right.”

32 D isse Esaú: “Estou quase morrendo. De que me vale esse direito?”

Esau said, “See, I am about to die. So what good is my birth-right to me?”

33 J acó, porém, insistiu: “Jure primeiro”. Ele fez um juramento, vendendo o seu direito de filho mais velho a Jacó.

Jacob said, “First give me your promise.” So Esau promised, and sold his birth-right to Jacob.

34 E ntão Jacó serviu a Esaú pão com ensopado de lentilhas. Ele comeu e bebeu, levantou-se e se foi. Assim Esaú desprezou o seu direito de filho mais velho.

Then Jacob gave Esau bread and vegetables, and Esau ate and drank. Then Esau stood up and went on his way. So Esau hated his birth-right.
