1 L embra-te, Senhor, do que tem acontecido conosco; olha e vê a nossa desgraça.

O Lord, remember what has happened to us. Look, and see our shame!

2 N ossa herança foi entregue aos estranhos, nossas casas, aos estrangeiros.

The land we received from You has been given over to strangers. Our homes have been given to people from other lands.

3 S omos órfãos de pai, nossas mães são como viúvas.

We have lost our fathers. Our mothers are like those who have lost their husbands.

4 T emos que comprar a água que bebemos; nossa lenha, só conseguimos pagando.

We have to pay for our drinking water, and we must buy our wood.

5 A queles que nos perseguem estão bem próximos; estamos exaustos e não temos como descansar.

Those who come after us are at our necks. We are tired and cannot rest.

6 S ubmetemo-nos ao Egito e à Assíria para conseguir pão.

We have put out our hands to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.

7 N ossos pais pecaram e já não existem, e nós recebemos o castigo pelos seus pecados.

Our fathers sinned, and are no more, and we have suffered for their sins.

8 E scravos dominam sobre nós, e não há quem possa livrar-nos das suas mãos.

Servants rule over us. There is no one to save us from their hand.

9 C onseguimos pão arriscando a vida, enfrentando a espada do deserto.

We put our lives in danger to get our bread, because of the sword in the desert.

10 N ossa pele está quente como um forno, febril de tanta fome.

Our skin has become as hot as fire because of the burning heat of hunger.

11 A s mulheres têm sido violentadas em Sião, e as virgens, nas cidades de Judá.

They have taken and sinned against the women in Zion, and the young women who have never had a man in the cities of Judah.

12 O s líderes foram pendurados por suas mãos; aos idosos não se mostra nenhum respeito.

Rulers were hung by their hands. Leaders were not respected.

13 O s jovens trabalham nos moinhos; os meninos cambaleiam sob o fardo de lenha.

Young men worked to grind the grain, and boys fell under loads of wood.

14 O s líderes já não se reúnem junto às portas da cidade; os jovens cessaram a sua música.

The old men have left the city gate. Young men have stopped playing their music.

15 D os nossos corações fugiu a alegria; nossas danças se transformaram em lamentos.

The joy of our hearts has come to an end. Our dancing has been turned into sorrow.

16 A coroa caiu da nossa cabeça. Ai de nós, porque temos pecado!

The crown has fallen from our head. It is bad for us, for we have sinned!

17 E por esse motivo o nosso coração desfalece, e os nossos olhos perdem o brilho.

Because of this our heart is weak. Because of these things our eyes are weak.

18 T udo porque o monte Sião está deserto, e os chacais perambulam por ele.

Mount Zion lies in waste, so foxes run all over it.

19 T u, Senhor, reinas para sempre; teu trono permanece de geração em geração.

O Lord, You rule forever. Your throne will last for all people-to-come.

20 P or que motivo então te esquecerias de nós? Por que haverias de desamparar-nos por tanto tempo?

Why do You forget us forever? Why do You leave us alone for so long?

21 R estaura-nos para ti, Senhor, para que voltemos; renova os nossos dias como os de antigamente,

Return us to You, O Lord. Bring us back. Make our days as they were before.

22 a não ser que já nos tenhas rejeitado completamente e a tua ira contra nós não tenha limite!

Or have You turned away from us forever? Is there no end to Your anger?
