1 N o início do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, veio esta palavra da parte do Senhor:

In the beginning of the rule of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying,

2 “ Assim diz o Senhor: Coloque-se no pátio do templo do Senhor e fale a todo o povo das cidades de Judá que vem adorar no templo do Senhor. Diga-lhes tudo o que eu lhe ordenar; não omita uma só palavra.

“This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand in the open space of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah who have come to worship in the Lord’s house. Tell them all the words that I have told you to say to them. Do not leave out one word!

3 T alvez eles escutem e cada um se converta de sua má conduta. Então eu me arrependerei e não trarei sobre eles a desgraça que estou planejando por causa do mal que eles têm praticado.

It may be they will listen and everyone will turn from his sinful way. Then I may change My mind about the trouble I plan to put on them because of the sinful things they have done.’

4 D iga-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor: Se vocês não me escutarem nem seguirem a minha lei, que dei a vocês,

And tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says: “If you will not listen to Me and follow My Law which I have set before you,

5 e se não ouvirem as palavras dos meus servos, os profetas, os quais tenho enviado a vocês vez após vez, embora vocês não os tenham ouvido,

and if you do not listen to the words of My servants who speak for Me, whom I have been sending to you again and again, but you have not listened,

6 e ntão farei deste templo o que fiz do santuário de Siló, e desta cidade, um objeto de maldição entre todas as nações da terra”.

then I will make this House of God like Shiloh. And I will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.”’”

7 O s sacerdotes, os profetas e todo o povo ouviram Jeremias falar essas palavras no templo do Senhor.

The religious leaders and the men of God and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.

8 E assim que Jeremias acabou de dizer ao povo tudo o que o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado, os sacerdotes, os profetas e todo o povo o prenderam e disseram: “Você certamente morrerá!

And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had told him to speak to all the people, the religious leaders and men of God and all the people took hold of him, saying, “You must die!

9 P or que você profetiza em nome do Senhor e afirma que este templo será como Siló e que esta cidade ficará arrasada e abandonada?” E todo o povo se ajuntou em volta de Jeremias no templo do Senhor.

Why have you spoken in the name of the Lord saying, ‘This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be laid waste with no one living in it’?” And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.

10 Q uando os líderes de Judá souberam disso, foram do palácio real até o templo do Senhor e se assentaram para julgar, à entrada da porta Nova do templo do Senhor.

When the leaders of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and sat beside the New Gate of the Lord’s house.

11 E os sacerdotes e os profetas disseram aos líderes e a todo o povo: “Este homem deve ser condenado à morte porque profetizou contra esta cidade. Vocês o ouviram com os seus próprios ouvidos!”

Then the religious leaders and men of God said to the leaders and to all the people, “This man must die! For he has spoken against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”

12 D isse então Jeremias a todos os líderes e a todo o povo: “O Senhor enviou-me para profetizar contra este templo e contra esta cidade tudo o que vocês ouviram.

Then Jeremiah said to all the leaders and to all the people, “The Lord sent me to speak against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.

13 A gora, corrijam a sua conduta e as suas ações e obedeçam ao Senhor, ao seu Deus. Então o Senhor se arrependerá da desgraça que pronunciou contra vocês.

So now change your ways and your works, and obey the voice of the Lord your God. Then the Lord will change His mind about the trouble He has said would come to you.

14 Q uanto a mim, estou nas mãos de vocês; façam comigo o que acharem bom e certo.

But as for me, see, I am in your hands. Do with me what is good and right in your eyes.

15 E ntretanto, estejam certos de que, se me matarem, vocês, esta cidade e os seus habitantes serão responsáveis por derramar sangue inocente, pois, na verdade, o Senhor enviou-me a vocês para anunciar-lhes essas palavras”.

Only know for sure that if you put me to death, you will bring the sin of killing a man who is not guilty on yourselves, on this city, and on its people. For it is true that the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words for you to hear.”

16 E ntão os líderes e todo o povo disseram aos sacerdotes e aos profetas: “Este homem não deve ser condenado à morte! Ele nos falou em nome do Senhor, do nosso Deus”.

Then the leaders and all the people said to the religious leaders and men of God, “No, this man should not be put to death! For he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

17 A lguns dos líderes da terra se levantaram e disseram a toda a assembléia do povo:

Then some of the leaders of the land stood up and said to all the people who had gathered,

18 “ Miquéias de Moresete profetizou nos dias de Ezequias, rei de Judá, dizendo a todo o povo de Judá: ‘Assim diz Senhor dos Exércitos: “‘“Sião será arada como um campo. Jerusalém se tornará um monte de entulho, a colina do templo, um monte coberto de mato’.

“Micah of Moresheth spoke in God’s name in the days of King Hezekiah of Judah. He said to all the people of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord of All has said: Zion will be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem will be destroyed. And trees will cover the mountain where the Lord’s house is.’

19 “ Acaso Ezequias, rei de Judá, ou alguém do povo de Judá o matou? Ezequias não temeu o Senhor e não buscou o seu favor? E o Senhor não se arrependeu da desgraça que pronunciara contra eles? Estamos a ponto de trazer uma terrível desgraça sobre nós!”

Did King Hezekiah of Judah and all the people of Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the Lord and pray for the Lord’s favor? And the Lord changed His mind about the trouble He had said would come to them. But we are about to bring a very bad thing on ourselves.”

20 O utro homem que profetizou em nome do Senhor foi Urias, filho de Semaías, de Quiriate-Jearim. Ele profetizou contra esta cidade e contra esta terra as mesmas coisas anunciadas por Jeremias.

There was another man who spoke in the name of the Lord. He was Uriah the son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He spoke against this city and against this land in words like those of Jeremiah.

21 Q uando o rei Jeoaquim, todos os seus homens de guerra e os seus oficiais ouviram isso, o rei procurou matá-lo. Sabendo disso, Urias teve medo e fugiu para o Egito.

When King Jehoiakim and all his powerful men and all his leaders heard his words, the king wanted to put Uriah to death. But Uriah heard about it, and he was afraid and ran away to Egypt.

22 M as o rei Jeoaquim mandou ao Egito Elnatã, filho de Acbor, e com ele alguns homens,

Then King Jehoiakim sent Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him to Egypt.

23 o s quais trouxeram Urias do Egito e o levaram ao rei Jeoaquim, que o mandou matar à espada. Depois, jogaram o corpo dele numa vala comum.

And they took Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, who killed him with a sword. Then he threw his dead body where most people are buried.

24 M as Aicam, filho de Safã, protegeu Jeremias, impedindo que ele fosse entregue ao povo para ser executado.

But Ahikam the son of Shaphan helped Jeremiah, so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.
