Sing for joy to God our strength! Call out for joy to the God of Jacob!

2 ( 81: 3) Entonnez des cantiques, faites résonner le tambourin, La harpe mélodieuse et le luth!

Sing a song, beat the timbrel. Play the sweet-sounding harps.

3 ( 81: 4) Sonnez de la trompette à la nouvelle lune, A la pleine lune, au jour de notre fête!

Blow the horn at the new moon, at the full moon on the day of our special supper.

4 ( 81: 5) Car c'est une loi pour Israël, Une ordonnance du Dieu de Jacob.

For this is a Law for Israel, a Law of the God of Jacob.

5 ( 81: 6) Il en fit un statut pour Joseph, Quand il marcha contre le pays d'Égypte... J'entends une voix qui m'est inconnue:

He made it a Law for Joseph, when he went through the land of Egypt. I heard a language that I did not know:

6 ( 81: 7) J'ai déchargé son épaule du fardeau, Et ses mains ont lâché la corbeille.

“I took the load off his shoulders. His hands were set free from the basket.

7 ( 81: 8) Tu as crié dans la détresse, et je t'ai délivré; Je t'ai répondu dans la retraite du tonnerre; Je t'ai éprouvé près des eaux de Meriba. Pause.

You called in your trouble, and I took you out of it. I answered you in the hiding place of thunder. I tested you at the waters of Meribah.

8 ( 81: 9) Écoute, mon peuple! et je t'avertirai; Israël, puisses-tu m'écouter!

Hear, O My people, and I will tell you what to do. O Israel, if you would listen to Me!

9 ( 81: 10) Qu'il n'y ait au milieu de toi point de dieu étranger! Ne te prosterne pas devant des dieux étrangers!

Let there be no strange god among you. Do not worship any false god.

10 ( 81: 11) Je suis l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'ai fait monter du pays d'Égypte; Ouvre ta bouche, et je la remplirai.

I, the Lord, am your God. I brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.

11 ( 81: 12) Mais mon peuple n'a point écouté ma voix, Israël ne m'a point obéi.

“But My people did not listen to My voice. And Israel did not obey Me.

12 ( 81: 13) Alors je les ai livrés aux penchants de leur coeur, Et ils ont suivi leurs propres conseils.

So I let them follow the desires of their sinful hearts. They followed their own plans.

13 ( 81: 14) Oh! si mon peuple m'écoutait, Si Israël marchait dans mes voies!

If only My people would listen to Me! If only Israel would follow My ways!

14 ( 81: 15) En un instant je confondrais leurs ennemis, Je tournerais ma main contre leurs adversaires;

I would hurry to crush those who fight against them. I would turn My hand against those who hate them.

15 ( 81: 16) Ceux qui haïssent l'Éternel le flatteraient, Et le bonheur d'Israël durerait toujours;

Those who hate the Lord would pretend to obey Him. And their punishment would last forever.

16 ( 81: 17) Je le nourrirais du meilleur froment, Et je le rassasierais du miel du rocher.

But I would feed you with the best of grain. And I would fill you with honey from the rock.”
