1 U n de ces jours-là, comme Jésus enseignait le peuple dans le temple et qu'il annonçait la bonne nouvelle, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, avec les anciens, survinrent,
As He was teaching and preaching the Good News, the religious leaders and the teachers of the Law and the elders came.
2 e t lui dirent: Dis-nous, par quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses, ou qui est celui qui t'a donné cette autorité?
They said to Him, “Tell us, by what right and power are You doing these things? Who gave You the right and the power?”
3 I l leur répondit: Je vous adresserai aussi une question.
Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question also. You answer Me.
4 D ites-moi, le baptême de Jean venait-il du ciel, ou des hommes?
Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?”
5 M ais ils raisonnèrent ainsi entre eux: Si nous répondons: Du ciel, il dira: Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas cru en lui?
They said to themselves, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’
6 E t si nous répondons: Des hommes, tout le peuple nous lapidera, car il est persuadé que Jean était un prophète.
But if we say, ‘From men,’ then all the people will throw stones at us because they believe John was one who spoke for God.”
7 A lors ils répondirent qu'ils ne savaient d'où il venait.
They said that they did not know where John’s baptism came from.
8 E t Jésus leur dit: Moi non plus, je ne vous dirai pas par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
Jesus said to them, “And I will not tell you where I get the right and the power to do these things.” The Picture-Story of the Grape-Field
9 I l se mit ensuite à dire au peuple cette parabole: Un homme planta une vigne, l'afferma à des vignerons, et quitta pour longtemps le pays.
Jesus began to tell the people a picture-story, saying, “There was a man who planted a grape-field. He rented it to farmers. Then he went to a country far away for a long time.
10 A u temps de la récolte, il envoya un serviteur vers les vignerons, pour qu'ils lui donnent une part du produit de la vigne. Les vignerons le battirent, et le renvoyèrent à vide.
At the time of gathering fruit he sent one of his servants to the farmers to get some of the fruit. But the farmers beat him and sent him away without fruit.
11 I l envoya encore un autre serviteur; ils le battirent, l'outragèrent, et le renvoyèrent à vide.
He sent another servant. The farmers beat him also. They made it very hard for him and sent him away without fruit.
12 I l en envoya encore un troisième; ils le blessèrent, et le chassèrent.
He sent a third servant. They hurt him and threw him out of the grape-field.
13 L e maître de la vigne dit: Que ferai-je? J'enverrai mon fils bien-aimé; peut-être auront-ils pour lui du respect.
“Then the owner of the grape-field said, ‘What should I do? I will send my much-loved son. They might respect him.’
14 M ais, quand les vignerons le virent, ils raisonnèrent entre eux, et dirent: Voici l'héritier; tuons-le, afin que l'héritage soit à nous.
The farmers saw the son. They said to themselves, ‘This is the one who will get everything when the owner dies. Let us kill him, and we will get everything.’
15 E t ils le jetèrent hors de la vigne, et le tuèrent. Maintenant, que leur fera le maître de la vigne?
They put him out of the grape-field and killed him. Now what will the owner of the grape-field do to them?
16 I l viendra, fera périr ces vignerons, et il donnera la vigne à d'autres. Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu cela, ils dirent: A Dieu ne plaise!
He will come and kill those farmers. Then he will rent the grape-field to other farmers.” When they heard this, they said, “May this never be done!”
17 M ais, jetant les regards sur eux, Jésus dit: Que signifie donc ce qui est écrit: La pierre qu'ont rejetée ceux qui bâtissaient Est devenue la principale de l'angle?
Jesus looked at them and said, “What does this writing mean, ‘The Stone that was put aside by the workmen has become the most important Stone in the building’?
18 Q uiconque tombera sur cette pierre s'y brisera, et celui sur qui elle tombera sera écrasé.
Whoever falls on this Stone will be broken. And on the one it falls, it will make him like dust.” They Try to Trap Jesus
19 L es principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes cherchèrent à mettre la main sur lui à l'heure même, mais ils craignirent le peuple. Ils avaient compris que c'était pour eux que Jésus avait dit cette parabole.
At this time the religious leaders and the teachers of the Law tried to take Jesus, but they were afraid of the people. These leaders knew Jesus had told this picture-story against them.
20 I ls se mirent à observer Jésus; et ils envoyèrent des gens qui feignaient d'être justes, pour lui tendre des pièges et saisir de lui quelque parole, afin de le livrer au magistrat et à l'autorité du gouverneur.
They watched Jesus and they sent men who pretended to be good people to watch Him. They wanted to trap Him in something He said. Then they could give Him over to the leader of the people who had the right and the power to say what to do with Him.
21 C es gens lui posèrent cette question: Maître, nous savons que tu parles et enseignes droitement, et que tu ne regardes pas à l'apparence, mais que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu selon la vérité.
These men who were sent asked Jesus, “Teacher, we know what You say and teach is right. We know You do not show more respect to one person than to another. We know You teach the truth about God.
22 N ous est-il permis, ou non, de payer le tribut à César?
Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23 J ésus, apercevant leur ruse, leur répondit: Montrez-moi un denier.
Jesus knew they were trying to trap Him. He said,
24 D e qui porte-t-il l'effigie et l'inscription? De César, répondirent-ils.
“Show Me a piece of money. Whose picture is this? Whose name is on it?” And they said, “Caesar’s.”
25 A lors il leur dit: Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu.
Jesus said to them, “Pay to Caesar the things that belong to Caesar. Pay to God the things that belong to God.”
26 I ls ne purent rien reprendre dans ses paroles devant le peuple; mais, étonnés de sa réponse, ils gardèrent le silence.
They could find nothing wrong with what He taught. They were surprised and wondered about what He told the people, so they said nothing more. They Ask about Being Raised from the Dead
27 Q uelques-uns des sadducéens, qui disent qu'il n'y a point de résurrection, s'approchèrent, et posèrent à Jésus cette question:
Some people from the religious group who believe no one will be raised from the dead came to Jesus. They asked Him,
28 M aître, voici ce que Moïse nous a prescrit: Si le frère de quelqu'un meurt, ayant une femme sans avoir d'enfants, son frère épousera la femme, et suscitera une postérité à son frère.
“Teacher, Moses wrote to us in the Law, ‘If a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, then his brother must marry her. He should have children for his brother who died.’
29 O r, il y avait sept frères. Le premier se maria, et mourut sans enfants.
There were seven brothers. The first had a wife but died without children.
30 L e second et le troisième épousèrent la veuve;
The second brother took her for his wife. He died without children.
31 i l en fut de même des sept, qui moururent sans laisser d'enfants.
The third brother took her for his wife. In the same way all seven took her for a wife. They all died without children.
32 E nfin, la femme mourut aussi.
Then the woman died also.
33 A la résurrection, duquel d'entre eux sera-t-elle donc la femme? Car les sept l'ont eue pour femme.
When people are raised from the dead, whose wife will she be? All seven brothers had her for a wife.”
34 J ésus leur répondit: Les enfants de ce siècle prennent des femmes et des maris;
Jesus said to them, “People of this earth marry and are given in marriage.
35 m ais ceux qui seront trouvés dignes d'avoir part au siècle à venir et à la résurrection des morts ne prendront ni femmes ni maris.
But those who have the right to have that life and are raised from the dead do not marry and are not given in marriage.
36 C ar ils ne pourront plus mourir, parce qu'ils seront semblables aux anges, et qu'ils seront fils de Dieu, étant fils de la résurrection.
They cannot die anymore. They are as the angels and are sons of God. They are children who have been raised from the dead.
37 Q ue les morts ressuscitent, c'est ce que Moïse a fait connaître quand, à propos du buisson, il appelle le Seigneur le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob.
As for the dead being raised, even Moses spoke of that when he told of the burning bush. There he calls the Lord, the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.
38 O r, Dieu n'est pas Dieu des morts, mais des vivants; car pour lui tous sont vivants.
For He is not the God of the dead. He is the God of the living. All live for Him.”
39 Q uelques-uns des scribes, prenant la parole, dirent: Maître, tu as bien parlé.
One of the teachers of the Law said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.”
40 E t ils n'osaient plus lui faire aucune question.
After that they were afraid to ask Him anything. Jesus Asks the Teachers of the Law about the Christ
41 J ésus leur dit: Comment dit-on que le Christ est fils de David?
Jesus said to them, “How do they say that Christ is the Son of David?
42 D avid lui-même dit dans le livre des Psaumes: Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite,
For David himself said in the Book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to My Lord, “Sit at my right side
43 J usqu'à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis ton marchepied.
until I make those who hate You a place to rest Your feet.”’
44 D avid donc l'appelle Seigneur; comment est-il son fils?
David calls Him, ‘Lord!’ Then how can He be his son?” False Teachers
45 T andis que tout le peuple l'écoutait, il dit à ses disciples:
All the people were listening. He said to His followers,
46 G ardez-vous des scribes, qui aiment à se promener en robes longues, et à être salués dans les places publiques; qui recherchent les premiers sièges dans les synagogues, et les premières places dans les festins;
“Look out for the teachers of the Law. They like to walk around in long coats. They like to have people speak words of respect to them in the center of town where people gather. They like the important seats in the places of worship. They like the important places at big suppers.
47 q ui dévorent les maisons des veuves, et qui font pour l'apparence de longues prières. Ils seront jugés plus sévèrement.
They take houses from poor women whose husbands have died. They cover up their actions by making long prayers. They will be punished all the more.”
