1 A près cela, Paul partit d'Athènes, et se rendit à Corinthe.

After that Paul went from the city of Athens and came to the city of Corinth.

2 I l y trouva un Juif nommé Aquilas, originaire du Pont, récemment arrivé d'Italie avec sa femme Priscille, parce que Claude avait ordonné à tous les Juifs de sortir de Rome. Il se lia avec eux;

He met a Jew there named Aquila who was born in the country of Pontus. He had lived in the country of Italy a short time. His wife Priscilla was with him. Claudius, who was the leader of the country, had told all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see Aquila and Priscilla.

3 e t, comme il avait le même métier, il demeura chez eux et y travailla: ils étaient faiseurs de tentes.

They made tents for a living. Paul did the same kind of work so he stayed with them and they worked together.

4 P aul discourait dans la synagogue chaque sabbat, et il persuadait des Juifs et des Grecs.

Every Day of Rest he would go to the Jewish place of worship and teach both Jews and Greeks.

5 M ais quand Silas et Timothée furent arrivés de la Macédoine, il se donna tout entier à la parole, attestant aux Juifs que Jésus était le Christ.

Silas and Timothy came down from the country of Macedonia. Then Paul used all his time preaching to the Jews. He taught that Jesus was the Christ.

6 L es Juifs faisant alors de l'opposition et se livrant à des injures, Paul secoua ses vêtements, et leur dit: Que votre sang retombe sur votre tête! J'en suis pur. Dès maintenant, j'irai vers les païens.

But they worked against Paul and said bad things about him. He shook his clothes and said, “Whatever happens to you is your own doing. I am free from your guilt. From now on I will go to the people who are not Jews.”

7 E t sortant de là, il entra chez un nommé Justus, homme craignant Dieu, et dont la maison était contiguë à la synagogue.

Paul went from there and came to the house of a man named Titus Justus who worshiped God. His house was next to the Jewish place of worship.

8 C ependant Crispus, le chef de la synagogue, crut au Seigneur avec toute sa famille. Et plusieurs Corinthiens, qui avaient entendu Paul, crurent aussi, et furent baptisés.

Crispus was the leader of the Jewish place of worship. He and his family believed in the Lord. Many of the people of Corinth who heard Paul became Christians and were baptized.

9 L e Seigneur dit à Paul en vision pendant la nuit: Ne crains point; mais parle, et ne te tais point,

Paul saw the Lord in a dream one night. He said to Paul, “Do not be afraid. Keep speaking. Do not close your mouth.

10 C ar je suis avec toi, et personne ne mettra la main sur toi pour te faire du mal: parle, car j'ai un peuple nombreux dans cette ville.

I am with you. No one will hurt you. I have many people in this city who belong to Me.”

11 I l y demeura un an et six mois, enseignant parmi les Corinthiens la parole de Dieu.

For a year and a half Paul stayed there and taught them the Word of God.

12 D u temps que Gallion était proconsul de l'Achaïe, les Juifs se soulevèrent unanimement contre Paul, et le menèrent devant le tribunal,

Gallio was leader of the country of Greece. All the Jews worked against Paul and brought him in front of the court.

13 e n disant: Cet homme excite les gens à servir Dieu d'une manière contraire à la loi.

They said, “This man is trying to get people to worship God against the Law.”

14 P aul allait ouvrir la bouche, lorsque Gallion dit aux Juifs: S'il s'agissait de quelque injustice ou de quelque méchante action, je vous écouterais comme de raison, ô Juifs;

Paul was ready to speak, but Gallio said to the Jews, “If this were something bad or a wrong doing, I would listen to you.

15 m ais, s'il s'agit de discussions sur une parole, sur des noms, et sur votre loi, cela vous regarde: je ne veux pas être juge de ces choses.

But because it is about words and names and your own Law, you will have to take care of it yourselves. I do not want to judge who is right or wrong in things like this.”

16 E t il les renvoya du tribunal.

And he sent them out of his court.

17 A lors tous, se saisissant de Sosthène, le chef de la synagogue, le battirent devant le tribunal, sans que Gallion s'en mît en peine.

Then all the Greek people took Sosthenes, the leader of the Jewish place of worship, and beat him in front of the court. But Gallio did not let this trouble him. Paul Goes Back to Antioch

18 P aul resta encore assez longtemps à Corinthe. Ensuite il prit congé des frères, et s'embarqua pour la Syrie, avec Priscille et Aquilas, après s'être fait raser la tête à Cenchrées, car il avait fait un voeu.

Paul stayed in Corinth many days longer. Then he said good-bye and left the followers. He went by ship to the country of Syria with Priscilla and Aquila going with him. In the city of Cenchrea he had his hair cut short because of a promise he had made to God.

19 I ls arrivèrent à Éphèse, et Paul y laissa ses compagnons. Étant entré dans la synagogue, il s'entretint avec les Juifs,

They came to the city of Ephesus. Priscilla and Aquila stayed there. Paul went to the Jewish place of worship and argued with the Jews.

20 q ui le prièrent de prolonger son séjour.

They wanted him to stay longer but he would not.

21 M ais il n'y consentit point, et il prit congé d'eux, en disant: Il faut absolument que je célèbre la fête prochaine à Jérusalem. Je reviendrai vers vous, si Dieu le veut. Et il partit d'Éphèse.

As he left them, he said, (“I must go to the special supper at Jerusalem.) I will return again to you if God wants me to.” Then he got on a ship and left Ephesus.

22 É tant débarqué à Césarée, il monta à Jérusalem, et, après avoir salué l'Église, il descendit à Antioche.

He stopped in the city of Caesarea to greet the people in the church. Then he went down to the city of Antioch.

23 L orsqu'il eut passé quelque temps à Antioche, Paul se mit en route, et parcourut successivement la Galatie et la Phrygie, fortifiant tous les disciples.

Paul stayed there for some time. Then he went from city to city through the countries of Galatia and Phrygia. In each place he helped the Christians become strong in the faith. Aquila and Priscilla Help Apollos in Ephesus

24 U n Juif nommé Apollos, originaire d'Alexandrie, homme éloquent et versé dans les Écritures, vint à Éphèse.

A Jew by the name of Apollos had come to Ephesus. He was from the city of Alexandria. He could talk to people about the Holy Writings very well.

25 I l était instruit dans la voie du Seigneur, et, fervent d'esprit, il annonçait et enseignait avec exactitude ce qui concerne Jésus, bien qu'il ne connût que le baptême de Jean.

He had been taught in the way of the Lord. And with a strong desire in his heart, he taught about Jesus. What he said was true, but he knew only about the baptism of John.

26 I l se mit à parler librement dans la synagogue. Aquilas et Priscille, l'ayant entendu, le prirent avec eux, et lui exposèrent plus exactement la voie de Dieu.

He began to speak without fear in the Jewish place of worship. Aquila and Priscilla heard him. They took him to their house and taught him much more about the things of God.

27 C omme il voulait passer en Achaïe, les frères l'y encouragèrent, et écrivirent aux disciples de le bien recevoir. Quand il fut arrivé, il se rendit, par la grâce de Dieu, très utile à ceux qui avaient cru;

Apollos wanted to cross over to Greece. The Christians wrote a letter to the followers there asking them to be good to him. When he got there, he was much help to those who had put their trust in Christ.

28 C ar il réfutait vivement les Juifs en public, démontrant par les Écritures que Jésus est le Christ.

In front of everyone he proved with great power that the Jews were wrong. He showed from the Holy Writings that Jesus was the Christ.
