1 J ésus priait un jour en un certain lieu. Lorsqu'il eut achevé, un de ses disciples lui dit: Seigneur, enseigne-nous à prier, comme Jean l'a enseigné à ses disciples.

Jesus had been praying. One of His followers said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray as John the Baptist taught his followers.”

2 I l leur dit: Quand vous priez, dites: Père! Que ton nom soit sanctifié; que ton règne vienne.

Jesus said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, Your name is holy. May Your holy nation come. What You want done, may it be done on earth as it is in heaven.

3 D onne-nous chaque jour notre pain quotidien;

Give us the bread we need everyday.

4 p ardonne-nous nos péchés, car nous aussi nous pardonnons à quiconque nous offense; et ne nous induis pas en tentation.

5 I l leur dit encore: Si l'un de vous a un ami, et qu'il aille le trouver au milieu de la nuit pour lui dire: Ami, prête-moi trois pains,

Jesus said to them, “If one of you has a friend and goes to him in the night and says, ‘Friend, give me three loaves of bread,

6 c ar un de mes amis est arrivé de voyage chez moi, et je n'ai rien à lui offrir,

for a friend of mine is on a trip and has stopped at my house. I have no food to give him.’

7 e t si, de l'intérieur de sa maison, cet ami lui répond: Ne m'importune pas, la porte est déjà fermée, mes enfants et moi sommes au lit, je ne puis me lever pour te donner des pains, -

The man inside the house will say, ‘Do not trouble me. The door is shut. My children and I are in bed. I cannot get up and give you bread.’

8 j e vous le dis, même s'il ne se levait pas pour les lui donner parce que c'est son ami, il se lèverait à cause de son importunité et lui donnerait tout ce dont il a besoin.

I say to you, he may not get up and give him bread because he is a friend. Yet, if he keeps on asking, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

9 E t moi, je vous dis: Demandez, et l'on vous donnera; cherchez, et vous trouverez; frappez, et l'on vous ouvrira.

I say to you, ask, and what you ask for will be given to you. Look, and what you are looking for you will find. Knock, and the door you are knocking on will be opened to you.

10 C ar quiconque demande reçoit, celui qui cherche trouve, et l'on ouvre à celui qui frappe.

For everyone who asks, will receive what he asks for. Everyone who looks, will find what he is looking for. Everyone who knocks, will have the door opened to him.

11 Q uel est parmi vous le père qui donnera une pierre à son fils, s'il lui demande du pain? Ou, s'il demande un poisson, lui donnera-t-il un serpent au lieu d'un poisson?

“Would any of you fathers give your son a stone if he asked for bread? Or would you give a snake if he asked for a fish?

12 O u, s'il demande un oeuf, lui donnera-t-il un scorpion?

Or if he asked for an egg, would you give him a small animal with a sting of poison?

13 S i donc, méchants comme vous l'êtes, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, à combien plus forte raison le Père céleste donnera-t-il le Saint Esprit à ceux qui le lui demandent.

You are sinful and you know how to give good things to your children. How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” A Nation That Cannot Stand

14 J ésus chassa un démon qui était muet. Lorsque le démon fut sorti, le muet parla, et la foule fut dans l'admiration.

Jesus was putting a demon out of a man who could not speak. When the demon was gone, the man could speak. All the people were surprised and wondered about it.

15 M ais quelques-uns dirent: c'est par Béelzébul, le prince des démons, qu'il chasse les démons.

Some of them said, “He puts out demons through Satan, the king of demons.”

16 E t d'autres, pour l'éprouver, lui demandèrent un signe venant du ciel.

Others tried to trap Jesus. They asked for something special to see from heaven.

17 C omme Jésus connaissait leurs pensées, il leur dit: Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est dévasté, et une maison s'écroule sur une autre.

But He knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every nation divided into groups that fight each other will be destroyed. Every family divided into groups that fight each other will not stand.

18 S i donc Satan est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il, puisque vous dites que je chasse les démons par Béelzébul?

If Satan is divided against himself, how will his nation stand? And yet you say I put out demons through Satan!

19 E t si moi, je chasse les démons par Béelzébul, vos fils, par qui les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ils seront eux-mêmes vos juges.

If I put out demons through Satan, by whose help do your sons put them out? Your own sons will say if you are guilty or not.

20 M ais, si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que je chasse les démons, le royaume de Dieu est donc venu vers vous.

But if I put out demons by the power of God, then the holy nation of God has come to you.

21 L orsqu'un homme fort et bien armé garde sa maison, ce qu'il possède est en sûreté.

“When a strong man watches his house and is ready to fight, his things are safe.

22 M ais, si un plus fort que lui survient et le dompte, il lui enlève toutes les armes dans lesquelles il se confiait, et il distribue ses dépouilles.

When a stronger man comes along, he wins the fight. He takes away all the things to fight with that the man of the house had put his trust in. Then the stronger man takes anything he wants from the house.

23 C elui qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi, et celui qui n'assemble pas avec moi disperse.

Whoever is not with Me is against Me. Whoever does not gather with Me is sending them everywhere. A Person Filled with Bad or Good

24 L orsque l'esprit impur est sorti d'un homme, il va dans des lieux arides, pour chercher du repos. N'en trouvant point, il dit: Je retournerai dans ma maison d'où je suis sorti;

“When a demon is gone out of a man, it goes through dry places to find rest. If it finds none, it says, ‘I will go back to my house I came from.’

25 e t, quand il arrive, il la trouve balayée et ornée.

When the demon comes back, it finds the house cleaned and looking good.

26 A lors il s'en va, et il prend sept autres esprits plus méchants que lui; ils entrent dans la maison, s'y établissent, et la dernière condition de cet homme est pire que la première.

Then the demon goes out and comes back bringing seven demons worse than itself. They go in and live there. In the end that man is worse than at the first.”

27 T andis que Jésus parlait ainsi, une femme, élevant la voix du milieu de la foule, lui dit: Heureux le sein qui t'a porté! heureuses les mamelles qui t'ont allaité!

As Jesus was talking, a woman of the group said with a loud voice, “The woman is happy who gave You birth and who fed You.”

28 E t il répondit: Heureux plutôt ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu, et qui la gardent!

But He said, “Yes, but those who hear the Word of God and obey it are happy.” Jesus Tells about Jonah

29 C omme le peuple s'amassait en foule, il se mit à dire: Cette génération est une génération méchante; elle demande un miracle; il ne lui sera donné d'autre miracle que celui de Jonas.

When the people were gathered near Jesus, He said, “The people of this day are sinful. They are looking for something special to see. They will get nothing special to see, except what Jonah the early preacher did.

30 C ar, de même que Jonas fut un signe pour les Ninivites, de même le Fils de l'homme en sera un pour cette génération.

As Jonah was something special to the people of the city of Nineveh, the Son of Man will be to the people of this day also.

31 L a reine du Midi se lèvera, au jour du jugement, avec les hommes de cette génération et les condamnera, parce qu'elle vint des extrémités de la terre pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon; et voici, il y a ici plus que Salomon.

The queen of the south will stand up on the day men stand before God. She will say the people of this day are guilty because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wise sayings of Solomon. And look, Someone greater than Solomon is here!

32 L es hommes de Ninive se lèveront, au jour du jugement, avec cette génération et la condamneront, parce qu'ils se repentirent à la prédication de Jonas; et voici, il y a ici plus que Jonas.

The men of Nineveh will stand up on the day men stand before God. They will say the people of this day are guilty because the men of Nineveh were sorry for their sins and turned from them when Jonah preached. And look, Someone greater than Jonah is here! Jesus Teaches about Light

33 P ersonne n'allume une lampe pour la mettre dans un lieu caché ou sous le boisseau, mais on la met sur le chandelier, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.

“No man lights a lamp and then hides it under a pail. He puts the light on a lamp-stand so those who come in can see it.

34 T on oeil est la lampe de ton corps. Lorsque ton oeil est en bon état, tout ton corps est éclairé; mais lorsque ton oeil est en mauvais état, ton corps est dans les ténèbres.

The eye is the light of the body. When your eye is good, your whole body is full of light. When your eye is sinful, your whole body is full of darkness.

35 P rends donc garde que la lumière qui est en toi ne soit ténèbres.

Be careful that the light in you is not dark.

36 S i donc tout ton corps est éclairé, n'ayant aucune partie dans les ténèbres, il sera entièrement éclairé, comme lorsque la lampe t'éclaire de sa lumière.

If your whole body is full of light, with no dark part, then it will shine. It will be as a lamp that gives light.” Jesus Speaks Sharp Words to the Proud Religious Law-Keeper

37 P endant que Jésus parlait, un pharisien le pria de dîner chez lui. Il entra, et se mit à table.

As Jesus was talking, a proud religious law-keeper asked Him to eat with him. Jesus went to the man’s house and took His place at the table.

38 L e pharisien vit avec étonnement qu'il ne s'était pas lavé avant le repas.

The proud religious law-keeper was surprised and wondered why Jesus had not washed before He ate.

39 M ais le Seigneur lui dit: Vous, pharisiens, vous nettoyez le dehors de la coupe et du plat, et à l'intérieur vous êtes pleins de rapine et de méchanceté.

But the Lord said to him, “You proud religious law-keepers make the outside of the cup and plate clean, but inside you are full of stealing and sinning.

40 I nsensés! celui qui a fait le dehors n'a-t-il pas fait aussi le dedans?

You are foolish. Did not He that made the outside make the inside also?

41 D onnez plutôt en aumônes ce qui est dedans, et voici, toutes choses seront pures pour vous.

Give yourself as a gift and then you will be clean.

42 M ais malheur à vous, pharisiens! parce que vous payez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue, et de toutes les herbes, et que vous négligez la justice et l'amour de Dieu: c'est là ce qu'il fallait pratiquer, sans omettre les autres choses.

“It is bad for you, proud religious law-keepers! You give one-tenth part of your spices. But you give no thought to what is right and to the love of God. You should do both of these.

43 M alheur à vous, pharisiens! parce que vous aimez les premiers sièges dans les synagogues, et les salutations dans les places publiques.

“It is bad for you, proud religious law-keepers! For you like to have the important seats in the places of worship. You like to have people speak good-sounding words to you as you are in the center of town where people gather.

44 M alheur à vous! parce que vous êtes comme les sépulcres qui ne paraissent pas, et sur lesquels on marche sans le savoir.

It is bad for you, teachers of the Law and proud religious law-keepers and you who pretend to be someone you are not! For you are like graves that are hidden. Men walk on graves without knowing they are there.” Jesus Speaks Sharp Words to the Men Who Knew the Law

45 U n des docteurs de la loi prit la parole, et lui dit: Maître, en parlant de la sorte, c'est aussi nous que tu outrages.

One of the men who knew the Law said to Jesus, “Teacher, You are making us look bad when You speak like this.”

46 E t Jésus répondit: Malheur à vous aussi, docteurs de la loi! parce que vous chargez les hommes de fardeaux difficiles à porter, et que vous ne touchez pas vous-mêmes de l'un de vos doigts.

Jesus said, “It is bad for you also, you men who know the Law! For you put heavy loads on the shoulders of men. But you will not even put your finger on one of these loads to help them.

47 M alheur à vous! parce que vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, que vos pères ont tués.

It is bad for you! For you make beautiful buildings for the graves of the early preachers your fathers killed.

48 V ous rendez donc témoignage aux oeuvres de vos pères, et vous les approuvez; car eux, ils ont tué les prophètes, et vous, vous bâtissez leurs tombeaux.

You are saying what your fathers did was good, because they killed the early preachers and you are making their graves.

49 C 'est pourquoi la sagesse de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres; ils tueront les uns et persécuteront les autres,

“For this reason the wisdom of God has said, ‘I will send them early preachers and missionaries. Some they will kill and some they will make it very hard for.’

50 a fin qu'il soit demandé compte à cette génération du sang de tous les prophètes qui a été répandu depuis la création du monde,

The blood of all the early preachers from the beginning of the world is on the people of this day.

51 d epuis le sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zacharie, tué entre l'autel et le temple; oui, je vous le dis, il en sera demandé compte à cette génération.

It will be from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, the one who died between the altar and the house of God. For sure, I tell you, the people of this day will be guilty for this.

52 M alheur à vous, docteurs de la loi! parce que vous avez enlevé la clef de la science; vous n'êtes pas entrés vous-mêmes, et vous avez empêché d'entrer ceux qui le voulaient.

“It is bad for you men who know the Law! For you have locked the door to the house of learning. You are not going in yourselves and you do not allow those to go in who are about to go in.”

53 Q uand il fut sorti de là, les scribes et les pharisiens commencèrent à le presser violemment, et à le faire parler sur beaucoup de choses,

As Jesus went away from there, the teachers of the Law and the proud religious law-keepers were very angry and tried to make Him say many things.

54 l ui tendant des pièges, pour surprendre quelque parole sortie de sa bouche.

They planned against Jesus and tried to trap Him with something He might say.
