1 T hen Zophar the Naamathite answered,

І відповів нааматянин Цофар та й сказав:

2 “ Therefore my disquieting thoughts make me respond, Even because of my inward agitation.

Тому то думки мої відповідати мене навертають, і тому то в мені цей мій поспіх!

3 “ I listened to the reproof which insults me, And the spirit of my understanding makes me answer.

Соромливу нагану собі я почув, та дух з мого розуму відповідає мені.

4 “ Do you know this from of old, From the establishment of man on earth,

Чи знаєш ти те, що від вічности, відколи людина на землі була поставлена,

5 T hat the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the godless momentary?

то спів несправедливих короткий, а радість безбожного тільки на хвилю?

6 “ Though his loftiness reaches the heavens, And his head touches the clouds,

Якщо піднесеться величність його аж до неба, а його голова аж до хмари досягне,

7 H e perishes forever like his refuse; Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’

проте він загине навіки, немов його гній, хто бачив його, запитає: де він?

8 “ He flies away like a dream, and they cannot find him; Even like a vision of the night he is chased away.

Немов сон улетить і не знайдуть його, мов видіння нічне, він сполошений буде:

9 “ The eye which saw him sees him no longer, And his place no longer beholds him.

його бачило око, та бачити більше не буде, і вже не побачить його його місце...

10 “ His sons favor the poor, And his hands give back his wealth.

Сини його запобігатимуть ласки в нужденних, а руки його позвертають маєток його...

11 “ His bones are full of his youthful vigor, But it lies down with him in the dust.

Повні кості його молодечости, та до пороху з ним вона ляже!

12 “ Though evil is sweet in his mouth And he hides it under his tongue,

Якщо в устах його зло солодке, його він таїть під своїм язиком,

13 T hough he desires it and will not let it go, But holds it in his mouth,

над ним милосердиться та не пускає його, і тримає його в своїх устах,

14 Y et his food in his stomach is changed To the venom of cobras within him.

то цей хліб в його нутрощах зміниться, стане він жовчю зміїною в нутрі його!...

15 “ He swallows riches, But will vomit them up; God will expel them from his belly.

Він маєток чужого ковтав, але його виблює: Бог виганяє його із утроби його...

16 “ He sucks the poison of cobras; The viper’s tongue slays him.

Отруту зміїну він ссатиме, гадючий язик його вб'є!

17 “ He does not look at the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and curds.

Він річкових джерел не побачить, струмків меду та молока.

18 “ He returns what he has attained And cannot swallow it; As to the riches of his trading, He cannot even enjoy them.

Позвертає він працю чужу, і її не ковтне, як і маєток, набутий з виміни своєї, жувати не буде...

19 “ For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built.

Бо він переслідував, кидав убогих, він дім грабував, хоч не ставив його!

20 “ Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.

Бо спокою не знав він у нутрі своїм, і свого наймилішого не збереже.

21 “ Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.

Немає останку з обжирства його, тому нетривале добро його все:

22 “ In the fullness of his plenty he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.

за повні достатку його буде тісно йому, рука кожного скривдженого прийде на нього!

23 “ When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And will rain it on him while he is eating.

Хай наповнена буде утроба його, та пошле Він на нього жар гніву Свого, і буде дощити на нього недугами його...

24 “ He may flee from the iron weapon, But the bronze bow will pierce him.

Він буде втікати від зброї залізної, та прониже його мідний лук...

25 “ It is drawn forth and comes out of his back, Even the glittering point from his gall. Terrors come upon him,

Він стане меча витягати, і вийде він із тіла, та держак його вийде із жовчі його, і перестрах на нього впаде!

26 C omplete darkness is held in reserve for his treasures, And unfanned fire will devour him; It will consume the survivor in his tent.

При скарбах його всі нещастя заховані, його буде жерти огонь не роздмухуваний, позостале в наметі його буде знищене...

27 “ The heavens will reveal his iniquity, And the earth will rise up against him.

Небо відкриє його беззаконня, а земля проти нього повстане,

28 “ The increase of his house will depart; His possessions will flow away in the day of His anger.

урожай його дому втече, розпливеться в день гніву Його...

29 “ This is the wicked man’s portion from God, Even the heritage decreed to him by God.”

Оце доля від Бога людині безбожній, і спадщина, обіцяна Богом для неї!
