1 ¶ Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous, for to the upright praise is beautiful.

Justes, réjouissez-vous en l'Éternel! La louange sied aux hommes droits.

2 C elebrate unto the LORD with harp; sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.

Célébrez l'Éternel avec la harpe, Célébrez-le sur le luth à dix cordes.

3 S ing unto him a new song; play unto excellence with joy.

Chantez-lui un cantique nouveau! Faites retentir vos instruments et vos voix!

4 F or the word of the LORD is right, and all his works are done in truth.

Car la parole de l'Éternel est droite, Et toutes ses oeuvres s'accomplissent avec fidélité;

5 H e loves righteousness and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the LORD.

Il aime la justice et la droiture; La bonté de l'Éternel remplit la terre.

6 B y the word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

Les cieux ont été faits par la parole de l'Éternel, Et toute leur armée par le souffle de sa bouche.

7 H e gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; he lays up the deeps for treasures.

Il amoncelle en un tas les eaux de la mer, Il met dans des réservoirs les abîmes.

8 L et all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

Que toute la terre craigne l'Éternel! Que tous les habitants du monde tremblent devant lui!

9 F or he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it came into being.

Car il dit, et la chose arrive; Il ordonne, et elle existe.

10 T he LORD brings the counsel of the Gentiles to nought; he makes the devices of the peoples of no effect.

L'Éternel renverse les desseins des nations, Il anéantit les projets des peuples;

11 T he counsel of the LORD stands for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

Les desseins de l'Éternel subsistent à toujours, Et les projets de son coeur, de génération en génération.

12 ¶ Blessed is the people whose God is the LORD; the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

Heureuse la nation dont l'Éternel est le Dieu! Heureux le peuple qu'il choisit pour son héritage!

13 T he LORD looked from heaven; he saw all the sons of Adam.

L'Éternel regarde du haut des cieux, Il voit tous les fils de l'homme;

14 F rom the place of his habitation he looked upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

Du lieu de sa demeure il observe Tous les habitants de la terre,

15 H e fashioned all of their hearts; he considers all their works.

Lui qui forme leur coeur à tous, Qui est attentif à toutes leurs actions.

16 T he king is not saved by the multitude of the army; the mighty man does not escape by much strength.

Ce n'est pas une grande armée qui sauve le roi, Ce n'est pas une grande force qui délivre le héros;

17 A horse is a vain thing for salvation; neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

Le cheval est impuissant pour assurer le salut, Et toute sa vigueur ne donne pas la délivrance.

18 B ehold, the eye of the LORD is upon those that fear him, upon those that wait for his mercy

Voici, l'oeil de l'Éternel est sur ceux qui le craignent, Sur ceux qui espèrent en sa bonté,

19 t o deliver their souls from death and to keep them alive in the famine.

Afin d'arracher leur âme à la mort Et de les faire vivre au milieu de la famine.

20 O ur soul waited for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.

Notre âme espère en l'Éternel; Il est notre secours et notre bouclier.

21 T herefore our heart shall rejoice in him because we have trusted in the name of his holiness.

Car notre coeur met en lui sa joie, Car nous avons confiance en son saint nom.

22 L et thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we have waited upon thee.

Éternel! que ta grâce soit sur nous, Comme nous espérons en toi!
