1 ¶ Thus Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had and Lot with him into the Negev.

Abram remonta d'Égypte vers le midi, lui, sa femme, et tout ce qui lui appartenait, et Lot avec lui.

2 A nd Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

Abram était très riche en troupeaux, en argent et en or.

3 A nd he retraced his journeys from the side of the Negev even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai,

Il dirigea ses marches du midi jusqu'à Béthel, jusqu'au lieu où était sa tente au commencement, entre Béthel et Aï,

4 u nto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

au lieu où était l'autel qu'il avait fait précédemment. Et là, Abram invoqua le nom de l'Éternel.

5 ¶ And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.

Lot, qui voyageait avec Abram, avait aussi des brebis, des boeufs et des tentes.

6 A nd the land was not able to bear them that they might dwell together, for their substance was so great that they could not dwell together.

Et la contrée était insuffisante pour qu'ils demeurassent ensemble, car leurs biens étaient si considérables qu'ils ne pouvaient demeurer ensemble.

7 A nd there was a strife between the pastors of Abram’s cattle and the pastors of Lot’s cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land.

Il y eut querelle entre les bergers des troupeaux d'Abram et les bergers des troupeaux de Lot. Les Cananéens et les Phérésiens habitaient alors dans le pays.

8 T hen Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee and between my pastors and thine, for we are brethren.

Abram dit à Lot: Qu'il n'y ait point, je te prie, de dispute entre moi et toi, ni entre mes bergers et tes bergers; car nous sommes frères.

9 I s not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me; if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

Tout le pays n'est-il pas devant toi? Sépare-toi donc de moi: si tu vas à gauche, j'irai à droite; si tu vas à droite, j'irai à gauche.

10 ¶ And Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was well watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as a garden of the LORD like the land of Egypt as thou comest unto Zoar.

Lot leva les yeux, et vit toute la plaine du Jourdain, qui était entièrement arrosée. Avant que l'Éternel eût détruit Sodome et Gomorrhe, c'était, jusqu'à Tsoar, comme un jardin de l'Éternel, comme le pays d'Égypte.

11 T hen Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed east; and they separated themselves the one from the other.

Lot choisit pour lui toute la plaine du Jourdain, et il s'avança vers l'orient. C'est ainsi qu'ils se séparèrent l'un de l'autre.

12 A bram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tents toward Sodom.

Abram habita dans le pays de Canaan; et Lot habita dans les villes de la plaine, et dressa ses tentes jusqu'à Sodome.

13 B ut the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

Les gens de Sodome étaient méchants, et de grands pécheurs contre l'Éternel.

14 ¶ And the LORD said unto Abram, after Lot separated himself from him, Lift up now thine eyes and look from the place where thou art towards the Aquilon and to the Negev and to the east and to the west;

L'Éternel dit à Abram, après que Lot se fut séparé de lui: Lève les yeux, et, du lieu où tu es, regarde vers le nord et le midi, vers l'orient et l'occident;

15 f or all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed for ever.

car tout le pays que tu vois, je le donnerai à toi et à ta postérité pour toujours.

16 A nd I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if someone could number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

Je rendrai ta postérité comme la poussière de la terre, en sorte que, si quelqu'un peut compter la poussière de la terre, ta postérité aussi sera comptée.

17 A rise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it, for I must give it unto thee.

Lève-toi, parcours le pays dans sa longueur et dans sa largeur; car je te le donnerai.

18 T hen Abram removed his tent and came and dwelt among the terebinth trees of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

Abram leva ses tentes, et vint habiter parmi les chênes de Mamré, qui sont près d'Hébron. Et il bâtit là un autel à l'Éternel.
