1 ¶ And after this it, came to pass that David smote the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Methegammah out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 H e also smote those of Moab and measured them with a line, causing them to lie down on the ground, and he measured them with two lines, with one to put to death and the other full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David’s slaves, bringing presents.

Il battit les Moabites, et il les mesura avec un cordeau, en les faisant coucher par terre; il en mesura deux cordeaux pour les livrer à la mort, et un plein cordeau pour leur laisser la vie. Et les Moabites furent assujettis à David, et lui payèrent un tribut.

3 D avid smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to extend his border to the river Euphrates.

David battit Hadadézer, fils de Rehob, roi de Tsoba, lorsqu'il alla rétablir sa domination sur le fleuve de l'Euphrate.

4 A nd David took from him a thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand footmen, and David hamstrung all the chariot horses but reserved of them for one hundred chariots.

David lui prit mille sept cents cavaliers et vingt mille hommes de pied; il coupa les jarrets à tous les chevaux de trait, et ne conserva que cent attelages.

5 A nd when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men.

Les Syriens de Damas vinrent au secours d'Hadadézer, roi de Tsoba, et David battit vingt-deux mille Syriens.

6 T hen David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became slaves to David, bringing presents. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.

David mit des garnisons dans la Syrie de Damas. Et les Syriens furent assujettis à David, et lui payèrent un tribut. L'Éternel protégeait David partout où il allait.

7 A nd David took the shields of gold that were on the slaves of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

Et David prit les boucliers d'or qu'avaient les serviteurs d'Hadadézer, et les apporta à Jérusalem.

8 L ikewise from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took a great quantity of brass.

Le roi David prit encore une grande quantité d'airain à Béthach et à Bérothaï, villes d'Hadadézer.

9 ¶ When Toi, king of Hamath, heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

Thoï, roi de Hamath, apprit que David avait battu toute l'armée d'Hadadézer,

10 t hen Toi sent Joram, his son, unto King David, to greet him peacefully and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and smitten him, for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought vessels of silver and vessels of gold and vessels of brass in his hand,

11 w hich King David dedicated unto the LORD with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all Gentiles which he subdued

12 o f the Syrians and of the Moabites and of the sons of Ammon and of the Philistines and of Amalekites and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

sur la Syrie, sur Moab, sur les fils d'Ammon, sur les Philistins, sur Amalek, et sur le butin d'Hadadézer, fils de Rehob, roi de Tsoba.

13 A nd David received fame when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt eighteen thousand men.

Au retour de sa victoire sur les Syriens, David se fit encore un nom, en battant dans la vallée du sel dix-huit mille Édomites.

14 A nd he put garrisons in Edom; he put garrisons throughout all Edom, and all those of Edom became David’s slaves. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.

Il mit des garnisons dans Édom, il mit des garnisons dans tout Édom. Et tout Édom fut assujetti à David. L'Éternel protégeait David partout où il allait.

15 ¶ And David reigned over all Israel, and David executed justice and righteousness unto all his people.

David régna sur Israël, et il faisait droit et justice à tout son peuple.

16 A nd Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was over the host, and Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, was the writer of chronicles;

Joab, fils de Tseruja, commandait l'armée; Josaphat, fils d'Achilud, était archiviste;

17 a nd Zadok, the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests, and Seraiah was the scribe,

Tsadok, fils d'Achithub, et Achimélec, fils d'Abiathar, étaient sacrificateurs; Seraja était secrétaire;

18 a nd Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were priests.

Benaja, fils de Jehojada, était chef des Kéréthiens et des Péléthiens; et les fils de David étaient ministres d'état.
