1 ¶ The burden of the valley of the vision. What ails thee now that thou art completely gone up to the housetops?

Oracle sur la vallée des visions. Qu'as-tu donc, que tout ton peuple monte sur les toits?

2 T hou that art full of tumults, a tumultuous city, a joyous city, thy dead are not slain with the sword nor slain in battle.

Ville bruyante, pleine de tumulte, Cité joyeuse! Tes morts ne périront pas par l'épée, Ils ne mourront pas en combattant.

3 A ll thy princes together fled from the bow; they were bound; all that were found in thee were bound together; the others fled far away.

Tous tes chefs fuient ensemble, Ils sont faits prisonniers par les archers; Tous tes habitants deviennent à la fois captifs, Tandis qu'ils prennent au loin la fuite.

4 T herefore I said, Leave me; I will weep bitterly; do not labour to comfort me of the destruction of the daughter of my people.

C'est pourquoi je dis: Détournez de moi les regards, Laissez-moi pleurer amèrement; N'insistez pas pour me consoler Du désastre de la fille de mon peuple.

5 F or a day of trouble and of treading down and of wearing down by the Lord GOD of the hosts is sent in the valley of the vision to break down the wall and give a cry unto the mountain.

Car c'est un jour de trouble, d'écrasement et de confusion, Envoyé par le Seigneur, l'Éternel des armées, Dans la vallée des visions. On démolit les murailles, Et les cris de détresse retentissent vers la montagne.

6 A lso Elam bore the quiver in a chariot of men and of horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.

Élam porte le carquois; Des chars de combattants, des cavaliers, s'avancent; Kir met à nu le bouclier.

7 A nd it came to pass, that thy choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the soldiers set themselves in array at the gate.

Tes plus belles vallées sont remplies de chars, Et les cavaliers se rangent en bataille à tes portes.

8 ¶ And he discovered the covering of Judah, and thou didst look in that day to the house of weapons of the forest.

Les derniers retranchements de Juda sont forcés, Et en ce jour tu visites les armures de la maison de la forêt.

9 Y e have also seen the breaches of the city of David that they are multiplied, and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.

Vous regardez les brèches nombreuses faites à la ville de David, Et vous retenez les eaux de l'étang inférieur.

10 A nd ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and ye have broken down houses to fortify the wall.

Vous comptez les maisons de Jérusalem, Et vous les abattez, pour fortifier la muraille.

11 Y e also made a moat between the two walls with the water of the old pool, but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, nor had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.

Vous faites un réservoir entre les deux murs, Pour les eaux de l'ancien étang. Mais vous ne regardez pas vers celui qui a voulu ces choses, Vous ne voyez pas celui qui les a préparées de loin.

12 T herefore the Lord GOD of the hosts did call in this day unto weeping and to mourning and to baldness and to girding with sackcloth:

Le Seigneur, l'Éternel des armées, vous appelle en ce jour A pleurer et à vous frapper la poitrine, A vous raser la tête et à ceindre le sac.

13 A nd behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine while they say, let us eat and drink for tomorrow we shall die.

Et voici de la gaîté et de la joie! On égorge des boeufs et l'on tue des brebis, On mange de la viande et l'on boit du vin: Mangeons et buvons, car demain nous mourrons! -

14 T his was revealed in my ears by the LORD of the hosts, That surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you until ye die, saith the Lord GOD of the hosts.

L'Éternel des armées me l'a révélé: Non, ce crime ne vous sera point pardonné que vous ne soyez morts, Dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel des armées.

15 ¶ Thus saith the Lord GOD of the hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,

Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel des armées: Va vers ce courtisan, Vers Schebna, gouverneur du palais:

16 W hat hast thou here? or whom hast thou here that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here as he that hews himself out a sepulchre on a high place or that graves a habitation for himself in a rock?

Qu'y a-t-il à toi ici, et qui as-tu ici, Que tu creuses ici un sépulcre? Il se creuse un sépulcre sur la hauteur, Il se taille une demeure dans le roc!

17 B ehold, the LORD will carry thee away in a hard captivity and will surely cover thy face.

Voici, l'Éternel te lancera d'un jet vigoureux; Il t'enveloppera comme une pelote,

18 H e will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country, there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall come to an end, the shame of the house of thy Lord.

Il te fera rouler, rouler comme une balle, Sur une terre spacieuse; Là tu mourras, là seront tes chars magnifiques, O toi, l'opprobre de la maison de ton maître!

19 A nd I will drive thee from thy place, and he shall pull thee down from thy state.

Je te chasserai de ton poste, L'Éternel t'arrachera de ta place.

20 A nd it shall come to pass in that day that I will call my slave Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:

En ce jour-là, J'appellerai mon serviteur Éliakim, fils de Hilkija;

21 A nd I will clothe him with thy robe and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand, and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.

Je le revêtirai de ta tunique, je le ceindrai de ta ceinture, Et je remettrai ton pouvoir entre ses mains; Il sera un père pour les habitants de Jérusalem Et pour la maison de Juda.

22 A nd the key of the house of David I will lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open.

Je mettrai sur son épaule la clé de la maison de David: Quand il ouvrira, nul ne fermera; Quand il fermera, nul n'ouvrira.

23 A nd I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place, and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.

Je l'enfoncerai comme un clou dans un lieu sûr, Et il sera un siège de gloire pour la maison de son père.

24 A nd they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the sons and the grandsons, all the vessels of small quantity, from the cups to drink from even unto all the instruments of music.

Il sera le soutien de toute la gloire de la maison de son père, Des rejetons nobles et ignobles, De tous les petits ustensiles, Des bassins comme des vases.

25 I n that day, saith the LORD of the hosts, the nail that is fastened in the sure place shall be removed and be cut down and fall and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD has spoken it.

En ce jour, dit l'Éternel des armées, Le clou enfoncé dans un lieu sûr sera enlevé, Il sera abattu et tombera, Et le fardeau qui était sur lui sera détruit, Car l'Éternel a parlé.
