1 ¶ Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty,

Mon âme, bénis l'Éternel! Éternel, mon Dieu, tu es infiniment grand! Tu es revêtu d'éclat et de magnificence!

2 w ho dost cover thyself with light as with a garment, who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain,

Il s'enveloppe de lumière comme d'un manteau; Il étend les cieux comme un pavillon.

3 w ho dost establish his chambers between the waters, who makes the clouds his chariot, who walks upon the wings of the wind,

Il forme avec les eaux le faîte de sa demeure; Il prend les nuées pour son char, Il s'avance sur les ailes du vent.

4 w ho makes his angels spirits, his ministers a flaming fire,

Il fait des vents ses messagers, Des flammes de feu ses serviteurs.

5 w ho laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved by any age.

Il a établi la terre sur ses fondements, Elle ne sera jamais ébranlée.

6 T hou didst cover it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.

Tu l'avais couverte de l'abîme comme d'un vêtement, Les eaux s'arrêtaient sur les montagnes;

7 A t thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.

Elles ont fui devant ta menace, Elles se sont précipitées à la voix de ton tonnerre.

8 T he mountains were exposed; they descended through the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.

Des montagnes se sont élevées, des vallées se sont abaissées, Au lieu que tu leur avais fixé.

9 T hou hast set a bound that they may not pass over, that they not turn again to cover the earth.

Tu as posé une limite que les eaux ne doivent point franchir, Afin qu'elles ne reviennent plus couvrir la terre.

10 ¶ Thou art he who sends the springs into the valleys, which run among the mountains.

Il conduit les sources dans des torrents Qui coulent entre les montagnes.

11 T hey give drink to every beast of the field; the wild asses quench their thirst.

Elles abreuvent tous les animaux des champs; Les ânes sauvages y étanchent leur soif.

12 N ext to them the fowls of the heavens have their habitation; they sing among the leaves.

Les oiseaux du ciel habitent sur leurs bords, Et font résonner leur voix parmi les rameaux.

13 H e waters the mountains from his chambers; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.

De sa haute demeure, il arrose les montagnes; La terre est rassasiée du fruit de tes oeuvres.

14 H e causes the hay to grow for the cattle and grass for the service of man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth

Il fait germer l'herbe pour le bétail, Et les plantes pour les besoins de l'homme, Afin que la terre produise de la nourriture,

15 a nd wine that makes glad the heart of man, making his face to shine with oil and bread which sustains man’s heart.

Le vin qui réjouit le coeur de l'homme, Et fait plus que l'huile resplendir son visage, Et le pain qui soutient le coeur de l'homme.

16 T he trees of the LORD are satisfied; the cedars of Lebanon, which he has planted,

Les arbres de l'Éternel se rassasient, Les cèdres du Liban, qu'il a plantés.

17 t hat the birds may make their nests there: the stork makes her house among the fir trees.

C'est là que les oiseaux font leurs nids; La cigogne a sa demeure dans les cyprès,

18 T he high mountains are a refuge for the wild goats, and the rocks for the conies.

Les montagnes élevées sont pour les boucs sauvages, Les rochers servent de retraite aux damans.

19 ¶ He appointed the moon for times and seasons; the sun knows his going down.

Il a fait la lune pour marquer les temps; Le soleil sait quand il doit se coucher.

20 T hou makest darkness, and it is night, wherein all the beasts of the forest move.

Tu amènes les ténèbres, et il est nuit: Alors tous les animaux des forêts sont en mouvement;

21 T he young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God.

Les lionceaux rugissent après la proie, Et demandent à Dieu leur nourriture.

22 T he sun arises, they withdraw and lay themselves down in their dens.

Le soleil se lève: ils se retirent, Et se couchent dans leurs tanières.

23 M an goes forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.

L'homme sort pour se rendre à son ouvrage, Et à son travail, jusqu'au soir.

24 O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom thou hast made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.

Que tes oeuvres sont en grand nombre, ô Éternel! Tu les as toutes faites avec sagesse. La terre est remplie de tes biens.

25 S o is this great and wide sea, wherein are innumerable creeping things, both small and great beasts.

Voici la grande et vaste mer: Là se meuvent sans nombre Des animaux petits et grands;

26 T here go the ships; there is that leviathan, whom thou didst make to play therein.

Là se promènent les navires, Et ce léviathan que tu as formé pour se jouer dans les flots.

27 T hese wait all upon thee, that thou may give them their food in due season.

Tous ces animaux espèrent en toi, Pour que tu leur donnes la nourriture en son temps.

28 T hou givest unto them, they gather; thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

Tu la leur donnes, et ils la recueillent; Tu ouvres ta main, et ils se rassasient de biens.

29 T hou hidest thy face, they are troubled; thou takest away their spirit, they cease to exist and return to their dust.

Tu caches ta face: ils sont tremblants; Tu leur retires le souffle: ils expirent, Et retournent dans leur poussière.

30 T hou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the earth.

Tu envoies ton souffle: ils sont créés, Et tu renouvelles la face de la terre.

31 ¶ Let the glory of the LORD endure for ever; let the LORD rejoice in his works.

Que la gloire de l'Éternel subsiste à jamais! Que l'Éternel se réjouisse de ses oeuvres!

32 H e looks on the earth, and it trembles: he touches the mountains, and they smoke.

Il regarde la terre, et elle tremble; Il touche les montagnes, et elles sont fumantes.

33 I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

Je chanterai l'Éternel tant que je vivrai, Je célébrerai mon Dieu tant que j'existerai.

34 M y meditation of him shall be sweet; I will be glad in the LORD.

Que mes paroles lui soient agréables! Je veux me réjouir en l'Éternel.

35 L et the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Halelu- JAH (Praise ye the LORD).

Que les pécheurs disparaissent de la terre, Et que les méchants ne soient plus! Mon âme, bénis l'Éternel! Louez l'Éternel!
