1 R emember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;

2 B efore the sun, the light, the moon, and the stars are darkened, and the clouds return after the rain;

antes que se escureçam o sol e a luz, a lua e as estrelas, e as nuvens voltem depois da chuva;

3 i n the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look out of the windows are darkened,

quando os guardas da casa tremerem e os homens fortes caminharem encurvados; quando pararem os moedores por serem poucos, e aqueles que olham pelas janelas enxergarem embaçado;

4 a nd the doors shall be shut in the street; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

quando as portas da rua forem fechadas e diminuir o som da moagem; quando o barulho das aves o fizer despertar, mas o som de todas as canções lhe parecer fraco;

5 y es, they shall be afraid of heights, and terrors will be on the way; and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goes to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets:

quando você tiver medo de altura, e dos perigos das ruas; quando florir a amendoeira, o gafanhoto for um peso e o desejo já não se despertar. Então o homem se vai para o seu lar eterno, e os pranteadores já vagueiam pelas ruas.

6 b efore the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the spring, or the wheel broken at the cistern,

Sim, lembre-se dele, antes que se rompa o cordão de prata, ou se quebre a taça de ouro; antes que o cântaro se despedace junto à fonte, a roda se quebre junto ao poço,

7 a nd the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

o pó volte à terra, de onde veio, e o espírito volte a Deus, que o deu.

8 “ Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “All is vanity!”

“Tudo sem sentido! Sem sentido!”, diz o mestre. “Nada faz sentido! Nada faz sentido!” Conclusão

9 F urther, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered, sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

Além de ser sábio, o mestre também ensinou conhecimento ao povo. Ele escutou, examinou e colecionou muitos provérbios.

10 T he Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written blamelessly, words of truth.

Procurou também encontrar as palavras certas, e o que ele escreveu era reto e verdadeiro.

11 T he words of the wise are like goads; and like nails well fastened are words from the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

As palavras dos sábios são como aguilhões, a coleção dos seus ditos como pregos bem fixados, provenientes do único Pastor.

12 F urthermore, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

Cuidado, meu filho; nada acrescente a eles. Não há limite para a produção de livros, e estudar demais deixa exausto o corpo.

13 T his is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

Agora que já se ouviu tudo, aqui está a conclusão: Tema a Deus e obedeça aos seus mandamentos, porque isso é o essencial para o homem.

14 F or God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.

Pois Deus trará a julgamento tudo o que foi feito, inclusive tudo o que está escondido, seja bom, seja mau.
