1 Т акже и вы, жены, повинуйтесь своим мужьям, чтобы те из них, которые не покоряются слову, житием жен своих без слова приобретаемы были,

In like manner, you married women, be submissive to your own husbands, so that even if any do not obey the Word, they may be won over not by discussion but by the lives of their wives,

2 к огда увидят ваше чистое, богобоязненное житие.

When they observe the pure and modest way in which you conduct yourselves, together with your reverence.

3 Д а будет украшением вашим не внешнее плетение волос, не золотые уборы или нарядность в одежде,

Let not yours be the external adorning with interweaving and knotting of the hair, the wearing of jewelry, or changes of clothes;

4 н о сокровенный сердца человек в нетленной кроткого и молчаливого духа, что драгоценно пред Богом.

But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

5 Т ак некогда и святые жены, уповавшие на Бога, украшали себя, повинуясь своим мужьям.

For it was thus that the pious women of old who hoped in God were to beautify themselves and were submissive to their husbands.

6 Т ак Сарра повиновалась Аврааму, называя его господином. Вы--дети ее, если делаете добро и не смущаетесь ни от какого страха.

It was thus that Sarah obeyed Abraham calling him lord (master, leader, authority). And you are now her true daughters if you do right and let nothing terrify you.

7 Т акже и вы, мужья, обращайтесь благоразумно с женами, как с немощнейшим сосудом, оказывая им честь, как сонаследницам благодатной жизни, дабы не было вам препятствия в молитвах.

In the same way you married men should live considerately with, with an intelligent recognition, honoring the woman as the weaker, but are joint heirs of the grace (God’s unmerited favor) of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered and cut off.

8 Н аконец будьте все единомысленны, сострадательны, братолюбивы, милосерды, дружелюбны, смиренномудры;

Finally, all should be of one and the same mind (united in spirit), sympathizing, loving as brethren, compassionate and courteous (tenderhearted and humble).

9 н е воздавайте злом за зло или ругательством за ругательство; напротив, благословляйте, зная, что вы к тому призваны, чтобы наследовать благословение.

Never return evil for evil or insult for insult (scolding, tongue-lashing, berating), but on the contrary blessing. For know that to this you have been called, that you may yourselves inherit a blessing.

10 И бо, кто любит жизнь и хочет видеть добрые дни, тот удерживай язык свой от зла и уста свои от лукавых речей;

For let him who wants to enjoy life and see good days keep his tongue free from evil and his lips from guile (treachery, deceit).

11 у клоняйся от зла и делай добро; ищи мира и стремись к нему,

Let him turn away from wickedness and shun it, and let him do right. Let him search for peace (harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts) and seek it eagerly.

12 п отому что очи Господа к праведным и уши Его к молитве их, но лице Господне против делающих зло, (чтобы истребить их с земли).

For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who practice evil.

13 И кто сделает вам зло, если вы будете ревнителями доброго?

Now who is there to hurt you if you are zealous followers of that which is good?

14 Н о если и страдаете за правду, то вы блаженны; а страха их не бойтесь и не смущайтесь.

But even in case you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, blessed (happy, to be envied). Do not dread or be afraid of their threats, nor be disturbed.

15 Г оспода Бога святите в сердцах ваших; всегда готовы всякому, требующему у вас отчета в вашем уповании, дать ответ с кротостью и благоговением.

But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.

16 И мейте добрую совесть, дабы тем, за что злословят вас, как злодеев, были постыжены порицающие ваше доброе житие во Христе.

your conscience is entirely clear ( unimpaired), so that, when you are falsely accused as evildoers, those who threaten you abusively and revile your right behavior in Christ may come to be ashamed.

17 И бо, если угодно воле Божией, лучше пострадать за добрые дела, нежели за злые;

For better to suffer for doing right, if that should be God’s will, than to suffer for doing wrong.

18 п отому что и Христос, чтобы привести нас к Богу, однажды пострадал за грехи наши, праведник за неправедных, быв умерщвлен по плоти, но ожив духом,

For Christ died for sins once for all, the Righteous for the unrighteous (the Just for the unjust, the Innocent for the guilty), that He might bring us to God. In His human body He was put to death, but He was made alive in the spirit,

19 к оторым Он и находящимся в темнице духам, сойдя, проповедал,

In which He went and preached to the spirits in prison,

20 н екогда непокорным ожидавшему их Божию долготерпению, во дни Ноя, во время строения ковчега, в котором немногие, то есть восемь душ, спаслись от воды.

who long before in the days of Noah had been disobedient, when God’s patience waited during the building of the ark in which a few, actually eight in number, were saved through water.

21 Т ак и нас ныне подобное сему образу крещение, не плотской нечистоты омытие, но обещание Богу доброй совести, спасает воскресением Иисуса Христа,

And baptism, which is a figure, does now also save you, not by the removing of outward body filth, but by the answer of a good and clear conscience (inward cleanness and peace) before God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

22 К оторый, восшед на небо, пребывает одесную Бога и Которому покорились Ангелы и Власти и Силы.

has now entered into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels and authorities and powers made subservient to Him.
