1 П ройдя через Амфиполь и Аполлонию, они пришли в Фессалонику, где была Иудейская синагога.

Now after had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

2 П авел, по своему обыкновению, вошел к ним и три субботы говорил с ними из Писаний,

And Paul entered, as he usually did, and for three Sabbaths he reasoned and argued with them from the Scriptures,

3 о ткрывая и доказывая им, что Христу надлежало пострадать и воскреснуть из мертвых и что Сей Христос есть Иисус, Которого я проповедую вам.

Explaining and setting forth and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, This Jesus, Whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ (the Messiah).

4 И некоторые из них уверовали и присоединились к Павлу и Силе, как из Еллинов, чтущих, великое множество, так и из знатных женщин немало.

And some of them were induced to believe and associated themselves with Paul and Silas, as did a great number of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women.

5 Н о неуверовавшие Иудеи, возревновав и взяв с площади некоторых негодных людей, собрались толпою и возмущали город и, приступив к дому Иасона, домогались вывести их к народу.

But the unbelieving Jews were aroused to jealousy, and, getting hold of some wicked men (ruffians and rascals) and loungers in the marketplace, they gathered together a mob, set the town in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring out to the people.

6 Н е найдя же их, повлекли Иасона и некоторых братьев к городским начальникам, крича, что эти всесветные возмутители пришли и сюда,

But when they failed to find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brethren before the city authorities, crying, These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,

7 а Иасон принял их, и все они поступают против повелений кесаря, почитая другого царем, Иисуса.

And Jason has received them to his house and privately protected them! And they are all ignoring and acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, asserting that there is another king, one Jesus!

8 И встревожили народ и городских начальников, слушавших это.

And both the crowd and the city authorities, on hearing this, were irritated (stirred up and troubled).

9 Н о, получив удостоверение от Иасона и прочих, отпустили их.

And when they had taken security from Jason and the others, they let them go.

10 Б ратия же немедленно ночью отправили Павла и Силу в Верию, куда они прибыв, пошли в синагогу Иудейскую.

Now the brethren at once sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea; and when they arrived, they entered the synagogue of the Jews.

11 З дешние были благомысленнее Фессалоникских: они приняли слово со всем усердием, ежедневно разбирая Писания, точно ли это так.

Now these were better disposed and more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they were entirely ready and accepted and welcomed the message '> concerning the attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God] with inclination of mind and eagerness, searching and examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

12 И многие из них уверовали, и из Еллинских почетных женщин и из мужчин немало.

Many of them therefore became believers, together with not a few prominent Greeks, women as well as men.

13 Н о когда Фессалоникские Иудеи узнали, что и в Верии проповедано Павлом слово Божие, то пришли и туда, возбуждая и возмущая народ.

But when the Jews of Thessalonica learned that the Word of God '> concerning the attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God] was also preached by Paul at Beroea, they came there too, disturbing and inciting the masses.

14 Т огда братия тотчас отпустили Павла, как будто идущего к морю; а Сила и Тимофей остались там.

At once the brethren sent Paul off on his way to the sea, but Silas and Timothy remained behind.

15 С опровождавшие Павла проводили его до Афин и, получив приказание к Силе и Тимофею, чтобы они скорее пришли к нему, отправились.

Those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens; and receiving instructions for Silas and Timothy that they should come to him as soon as possible, they departed.

16 В ожидании их в Афинах Павел возмутился духом при виде этого города, полного идолов.

Now while Paul was awaiting them at Athens, his spirit was grieved and roused to anger as he saw that the city was full of idols.

17 И так он рассуждал в синагоге с Иудеями и с чтущими, и ежедневно на площади со встречающимися.

So he reasoned and argued in the synagogue with the Jews and those who worshiped there, and in the marketplace day after day with any who chanced to be there.

18 Н екоторые из эпикурейских и стоических философов стали спорить с ним; и одни говорили: 'что хочет сказать этот суеслов?', а другие: 'кажется, он проповедует о чужих божествах', потому что он благовествовал им Иисуса и воскресение.

And some also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him and began to engage in discussion. And some said, What is this babbler with his scrap-heap learning trying to say? Others said, He seems to be an announcer of foreign deities—because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

19 И , взяв его, привели в ареопаг и говорили: можем ли мы знать, что это за новое учение, проповедуемое тобою?

And they took hold of him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this novel (unheard of and unprecedented) teaching is which you are openly declaring?

20 И бо что-то странное ты влагаешь в уши наши. Посему хотим знать, что это такое?

For you set forth some startling things, foreign and strange to our ears; we wish to know therefore just what these things mean—

21 А финяне же все и живущие иностранцы ни в чем охотнее не проводили время, как в том, чтобы говорить или слушать что-- нибудь новое.

For the Athenians, all of them, and the foreign residents and visitors among them spent all their leisure time in nothing except telling or hearing something newer than the last—

22 И , став Павел среди ареопага, сказал: Афиняне! по всему вижу я, что вы как бы особенно набожны.

So Paul, standing in the center of the Areopagus, said: Men of Athens, I perceive in every way that you are most religious or very reverent to demons.

23 И бо, проходя и осматривая ваши святыни, я нашел и жертвенник, на котором написано 'неведомому Богу'. Сего-то, Которого вы, не зная, чтите, я проповедую вам.

For as I passed along and carefully observed your objects of worship, I came also upon an altar with this inscription, To the unknown god. Now what you are already worshiping as unknown, this I set forth to you.

24 Б ог, сотворивший мир и всё, что в нем, Он, будучи Господом неба и земли, не в рукотворенных храмах живет

The God Who produced and formed the world and all things in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in handmade shrines.

25 и не требует служения рук человеческих, имеющий в чем-либо нужду, Сам дая всему жизнь и дыхание и всё.

Neither is He served by human hands, as though He lacked anything, for it is He Himself Who gives life and breath and all things to all.

26 О т одной крови Он произвел весь род человеческий для обитания по всему лицу земли, назначив предопределенные времена и пределы их обитанию,

And He made from one all nations of men to settle on the face of the earth, having definitely determined allotted periods of time and the fixed boundaries of their habitation (their settlements, lands, and abodes),

27 д абы они искали Бога, не ощутят ли Его и не найдут ли, хотя Он и недалеко от каждого из нас:

So that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after Him and find Him, although He is not far from each one of us.

28 и бо мы Им живем и движемся и существуем, как и некоторые из ваших стихотворцев говорили: 'мы Его и род'.

For in Him we live and move and have our being; as even some of your poets have said, For we are also His offspring.

29 И так мы, будучи родом Божиим, не должны думать, что Божество подобно золоту, или серебру, или камню, получившему образ от искусства и вымысла человеческого.

Since then we are God’s offspring, we ought not to suppose that Deity (the Godhead) is like gold or silver or stone, a representation by human art and imagination, or anything constructed or invented.

30 И так, оставляя времена неведения, Бог ныне повелевает людям всем повсюду покаяться,

Such ages of ignorance God, it is true, ignored and allowed to pass unnoticed; but now He charges all people everywhere to repent ( to change their minds for the better and heartily to amend their ways, with abhorrence of their past sins),

31 и бо Он назначил день, в который будет праведно судить вселенную, посредством предопределенного Им Мужа, подав удостоверение всем, воскресив Его из мертвых.

Because He has fixed a day when He will judge the world righteously (justly) by a Man Whom He has destined and appointed for that task, and He has made this credible and given conviction and assurance and evidence to everyone by raising Him from the dead.

32 У слышав о воскресении мертвых, одни насмехались, а другие говорили: об этом послушаем тебя в другое время.

Now when they had heard a resurrection from the dead, some scoffed; but others said, We will hear you again about this matter.

33 И так Павел вышел из среды их.

So Paul went out from among them.

34 Н екоторые же мужи, пристав к нему, уверовали; между ними был Дионисий Ареопагит и женщина, именем Дамарь, и другие с ними.

But some men were on his side and joined him and believed (became Christians); among them were Dionysius, a judge of the Areopagus, and a woman named Damaris, and some others with them.
