1 H ijo mío, atiende a mi sabiduría; inclina tu oído a mi inteligencia.

My son, attend unto my wisdom; Incline thine ear to my understanding:

2 A sí pondrás en práctica mis consejos y tus labios resguardarán el conocimiento.

That thou mayest preserve discretion, And that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3 L os labios de la mujer ajena destilan miel; su paladar es más suave que el aceite,

For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 p ero termina siendo amargo como el ajenjo, y tajante como una espada de dos filos.

But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 S us pies descienden a la muerte; sus pasos se dirigen al sepulcro.

Her feet go down to death; Her steps take hold on Sheol;

6 N o tomes en cuenta sus caminos inestables, porque no conocerás el camino de la vida.

So that she findeth not the level path of life: Her ways are unstable, and she knoweth it not.

7 H ijos, escúchenme bien ahora: No se aparten de las razones de mi boca.

Now therefore, my sons, hearken unto me, And depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 A leja a esa mujer de tu camino. No te acerques a la puerta de su casa.

Remove thy way far from her, And come not nigh the door of her house;

9 A sí no entregarás tu vida y tu honor a gente extraña y cruel.

Lest thou give thine honor unto others, And thy years unto the cruel;

10 A sí gente extraña no se saciará con tu fuerza, ni se quedarán tus trabajos en casa ajena.

Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, And thy labors be in the house of an alien,

11 A sí no tendrás que llorar al final, cuando tu carne y tu cuerpo se consuman,

And thou mourn at thy latter end, When thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 n i dirás: «¡Cómo pude rechazar los consejos! ¡Cómo pudo mi corazón despreciar la reprensión!

And say, How have I hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;

13 ¡ No oí la voz de los que me instruían, ni presté oído a los que me enseñaban!

Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

14 ¡ Poco me faltó para estar del todo mal entre la comunidad y la congregación!»

I was well-nigh in all evil In the midst of the assembly and congregation.

15 B ebe el agua de tu propio pozo, el raudal que mana de tu propia cisterna.

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, And running waters out of thine own well.

16 ¿ Por qué derramar tus fuentes por las calles, y tus corrientes de aguas por las plazas?

Should thy springs be dispersed abroad, And streams of water in the streets?

17 E sas aguas son para ti solo, no para compartirlas con gente extraña.

Let them be for thyself alone, And not for strangers with thee.

18 ¡ Bendito sea tu manantial! ¡Alégrate con la mujer de tu juventud,

Let thy fountain be blessed; And rejoice in the wife of thy youth.

19 c on esa cervatilla amada y graciosa! ¡Sáciate de sus caricias en todo tiempo! ¡Recréate siempre con su amor!

As a loving hind and a pleasant doe, Let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; And be thou ravished always with her love.

20 H ijo mío, ¿Por qué perder la cabeza por la mujer ajena? ¿Por qué arrojarte a los brazos de una extraña?

For why shouldest thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, And embrace the bosom of a foreigner?

21 L os caminos del hombre están ante el Señor, y él pone a consideración todas sus veredas.

For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah; And he maketh level all his paths.

22 A l impío lo atrapa su propia maldad, lo atan las cuerdas de su pecado.

His own iniquities shall take the wicked, And he shall be holden with the cords of his sin.

23 E l malvado muere por falta de corrección, y pierde el rumbo por su inmensa locura.

He shall die for lack of instruction; And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
