1 E n los días en que Ajaz hijo de Yotán, hijo de Uzías, reinaba en Judá, sucedió que el rey Resín de Siria y Pecaj hijo de Remalías, que era rey de Israel, se dirigieron a Jerusalén para atacarla, pero no la pudieron tomar.

And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

2 L a noticia de que Siria se había aliado con Efraín llegó a la casa de David, y esto hizo que se estremeciera el corazón del rey y de su pueblo, como cuando el viento hace que se estremezcan los árboles del bosque.

And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

3 E ntonces el Señor le dijo a Isaías: «Ve ahora con tu hijo Sear Yasub adonde termina el acueducto del estanque superior, en dirección al Campo del Lavador. Allí te encontrarás con Ajaz,

Then said Jehovah unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, in the highway of the fuller's field;

4 y le dirás: “Ten mucho cuidado, y mucha calma. No tengas miedo ni se sobresalte tu corazón por causa de Resín y de Siria, y del hijo de Remalías.” Ellos arden de ira, pero no son más que el humo de dos tizones apagados.

and say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither let thy heart be faint, because of these two tails of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

5 E l sirio se ha puesto de acuerdo con Efraín y con el hijo de Remalías, para hacerte daño. Ha dicho:

Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have purposed evil against thee, saying,

6 “ Vayamos contra Judá para aterrorizarla. Nos la repartiremos, y pondremos por rey al hijo de Tabel.”

Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set up a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeel;

7 P ero Dios el Señor dice así: “Eso no tendrá éxito, ni será así.”

thus saith the Lord Jehovah, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

8 C iertamente, la cabeza de Siria es Damasco, y la cabeza de Damasco es Resín, pero dentro de sesenta y cinco años Efraín será destruido y dejará de ser pueblo.

For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken in pieces, so that is shall not be a people:

9 Y la cabeza de Efraín es Samaria, y la cabeza de Samaria es el hijo de Remalías. Si ustedes no creen esto, tampoco permanecerán.»

and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

10 E l Señor le habló también a Ajaz, y le dijo:

And Jehovah spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

11 « Pídele al Señor tu Dios una señal. Pídesela de las profundidades de la tierra, o de las alturas de los cielos.»

Ask thee a sign of Jehovah thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

12 Y Ajaz respondió: «No pediré nada. No pondré a prueba al Señor.»

But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt Jehovah.

13 D ijo entonces Isaías: «Escuchen bien ustedes, los de la casa de David. ¿Les parece poco el molestar a los hombres, que también quieren molestar a mi Dios?

And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David: Is it a small thing for you to weary men, that ye will weary my God also?

14 P ues ahora el Señor mismo les dará una señal: La joven concebirá, y dará a luz un hijo, y le pondrá por nombre Emanuel.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

15 C omerá mantequilla y miel hasta que sepa desechar lo malo y escoger lo bueno.

Butter and honey shall he eat, when he knoweth to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

16 C iertamente, antes de que el niño sepa desechar lo malo y escoger lo bueno, el país de estos dos reyes a quienes tú temes quedará abandonado.

For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings thou abhorrest shall be forsaken.

17 E l Señor hará que vengan sobre ti, sobre tu pueblo y sobre la casa de tu padre, días como nunca vinieron desde el día en que Efraín se apartó de Judá para unirse al rey de Asiria.

Jehovah will bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah-even the king of Assyria.

18 » Cuando llegue ese día, el Señor llamará con un silbido a la mosca que está al final de los ríos de Egipto, y a la abeja que está en la tierra de Asiria;

And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

19 y éstas vendrán y acamparán en todos los valles desiertos, y en las grietas de las piedras, y en todos los zarzales y en todas las matas.

And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the clefts of the rocks, and upon all thorn-hedges, and upon all pastures.

20 » Cuando llegue ese día, el Señor traerá al rey de Asiria, que habita al otro lado del río, y ese rey será como una navaja alquilada, con la cual les rapará la cabeza y el pelo de los pies, y hasta la barba.

In that day will the Lord shave with a razor that is hired in the parts beyond the River, even with the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard.

21 » Cuando llegue ese día, quien críe una vaca y dos ovejas

And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall keep alive a young cow, and two sheep;

22 c omerá mantequilla, pues será mucha la leche que le darán. Sí, quien quede con vida en el país ciertamente comerá miel y mantequilla.

and it shall come to pass, that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the midst of the land.

23 » Cuando llegue ese día, el campo donde había mil vides con valor de mil monedas de plata, será un campo de espinos y cardos.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, shall be for briers and thorns.

24 I rán allá con arcos y flechas, porque toda la tierra estará llena de espinos y cardos.

With arrows and with bow shall one come thither, because all the land shall be briers and thorns.

25 P or temor de los espinos y cardos, nadie irá a ninguno de los montes antes cultivados con azada, porque sólo servirán como pastizales de bueyes y para que los ganados los pisoteen.»

And all the hills that were digged with the mattock, thou shalt not come thither for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.
