1 E n su oración, Ana dijo: En ti, Señor, mi corazón se regocija; En tu nombre, mi fuerza es mayor. Ahora puedo burlarme de mis enemigos porque me regocijo en tu salvación.

And Hannah prayed, and said: My heart exulteth in Jehovah; My horn is exalted in Jehovah; My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; Because I rejoice in thy salvation.

2 N adie es santo como tú, Señor. Fuera de ti, no hay nadie más. No hay mejor refugio que tú, Dios nuestro.

There is none holy as Jehovah; For there is none besides thee, Neither is there any rock like our God.

3 Q ue nadie se jacte ni sea altanero; que aparte la insolencia de sus labios, porque sólo el Señor es quien lo sabe todo; es el Dios que pondera toda acción.

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth; For Jehovah is a God of knowledge, And by him actions are weighed.

4 E l Señor quiebra los arcos de los poderosos, y reviste de poder a los débiles.

The bows of the mighty men are broken; And they that stumbled are girded with strength.

5 L os que eran ricos, ahora mendigan trabajo; los que sufrían de hambre han sido saciados. Aun la estéril ha dado a luz siete hijos, y la mujer fecunda ahora desfallece.

They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; And they that were hungry have ceased to hunger: Yea, the barren hath borne seven; And she that hath many children languisheth.

6 E l Señor da la vida, y la quita; nos lleva al sepulcro, y nos rescata de él.

Jehovah killeth, and maketh alive: He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up.

7 E l Señor da pobreza y riqueza; el Señor nos humilla y nos enaltece.

Jehovah maketh poor, and maketh rich: He bringeth low, he also lifteth up.

8 A l pobre lo levanta de la nada, y saca de la inmundicia al mendigo para sentarlo entre los príncipes. Del Señor son las bases de la tierra; sobre ellas ha afirmado el mundo.

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, He lifteth up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, And inherit the throne of glory: For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's, And he hath set the world upon them.

9 E l Señor vigila los pasos de sus fieles, pero los impíos mueren en medio de las tinieblas, Porque nadie triunfa por sus propias fuerzas.

He will keep the feet of his holy ones; But the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; For by strength shall no man prevail.

10 A nte el Señor son derrotados sus enemigos; desde el cielo lanza rayos sobre ellos. El Señor es juez de los confines de la tierra; otorga poder al Rey que escogió, y exalta el poder de su Ungido.

They that strive with Jehovah shall be broken to pieces; Against them will he thunder in heaven: Jehovah will judge the ends of the earth; And he will give strength unto his king, And exalt the horn of his anointed.

11 E lcana regresó a su casa en Ramá, y el niño se quedó a servir al Señor bajo la supervisión del sacerdote Elí. El pecado de los hijos de Elí

And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto Jehovah before Eli the priest.

12 L os hijos de Elí eran unos malvados, y no reconocían la autoridad del Señor.

Now the sons of Eli were base men; they knew not Jehovah.

13 E ra costumbre entre los sacerdotes y el pueblo que, cuando alguien ofrecía un sacrificio, mientras se cocía la carne, el criado del sacerdote tomaba un tridente e iba

And the custom of the priests with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a flesh-hook of three teeth in his hand;

14 a l perol, la olla, el caldero o la marmita, y sacaba carne para el sacerdote. Así lo hacían con todos los israelitas que acudían a Silo.

and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the flesh-hook brought up the priest took therewith. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

15 A demás, antes de quemar la grasa, llegaba el criado del sacerdote y le decía al que sacrificaba: «El sacerdote quiere carne para asar. No quiere carne cocida, sino cruda.»

Yea, before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have boiled flesh of thee, but raw.

16 Y si la persona le decía: «Primero debe quemarse la grasa; después de eso podrás tomar todo lo que quieras», el criado respondía: «Dámela ahora mismo; de lo contrario, la tomaré por la fuerza.»

And if the man said unto him, They will surely burn the fat first, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would say, Nay, but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

17 E ste pecado de los jóvenes sacerdotes era muy grave, porque no mostraban ningún respeto por las ofrendas del Señor.

And the sin of the young men was very great before Jehovah; for the men despised the offering of Jehovah.

18 E l joven Samuel servía ante el Señor, vestido con un efod de lino.

But Samuel ministered before Jehovah, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

19 C ada año, su madre le hacía una túnica pequeña y se la llevaba cuando iba con su marido a entregar sus ofrendas de costumbre.

Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

20 E ntonces Elí bendecía a Elcana y a su mujer, y les decía: «Que el Señor te dé más hijos de esta mujer, para que ocupen el lugar del que ella le entregó al Señor.» Después de eso, ellos se regresaban a su casa.

And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, Jehovah give thee seed of this woman for the petition which was asked of Jehovah. And they went unto their own home.

21 Y el Señor bendijo a Ana con tres hijos y dos hijas. Mientras tanto, el joven Samuel crecía y seguía sirviendo al Señor.

And Jehovah visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before Jehovah.

22 E lí ya era muy viejo, pero sabía todo lo que sus hijos hacían con el pueblo de Israel, y sabía también que ellos se acostaban con las mujeres que servían a la entrada del tabernáculo.

Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did unto all Israel, and how that they lay with the women that did service at the door of the tent of meeting.

23 A sí que los llamó y les dijo: «La gente se queja de que ustedes se portan muy mal. ¿Por qué lo hacen?

And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings from all this people.

24 N o, hijos míos; lo que hacen no está bien. Además, hacen pecar al pueblo del Señor.

Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make Jehovah's people to transgress.

25 S i el hombre peca contra el hombre, hay jueces para juzgarlo; pero si alguien peca contra el Señor, ¿quién intercederá por él?» Pero sus hijos no atendieron los consejos de su padre, porque el Señor había resuelto quitarles la vida.

If one man sin against another, God shall judge him; but if a man sin against Jehovah, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding, they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because Jehovah was minded to slay them.

26 M ientras tanto, el joven Samuel seguía creciendo y era bien visto por Dios y por la gente.

And the child Samuel grew on, and increased in favor both with Jehovah, and also with men.

27 U n día, un hombre de Dios fue a visitar a Elí, y le dijo: «Así ha dicho el Señor: Cuando tus antepasados vivían en Egipto, en la tierra del faraón, ¿no es verdad que me manifesté a ellos con toda claridad?

And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Did I reveal myself unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house?

28 Y o escogí a tu padre de entre todas las familias de Israel, para que fuera mi sacerdote y presentara sobre mi altar las ofrendas, y quemara incienso, y llevara el efod delante de mí. Además, le di a sus descendientes todas las ofrendas de los hijos de Israel.

and did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up unto mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?

29 ¿ Por qué han pisoteado los sacrificios y las ofrendas que pedi al pueblo ofrecerme en el tabernáculo? ¿Por qué has respetado más a tus hijos que a mí, y los has dejado engordar con las mejores ofrendas que me da mi pueblo Israel?

Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation, and honorest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

30 P or todo esto, el Señor Dios de Israel te dice: Yo prometí que tu familia y los descendientes de tu padre estarían siempre a mi servicio; pero hoy te digo que esto se acabó, porque yo honro a los que me honran, y humillo a los que me desprecian.

Therefore Jehovah, the God of Israel, saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now Jehovah saith, Be it far from me; for them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

31 Y a está cerca el día en que tu poder y el de tus descendientes llegará a si fin; ninguno de ellos llegará a viejo.

Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thy house.

32 T u familia caerá en desgracia, mientras que a Israel lo colmaré de bienes. Ya lo he dicho: Ninguno de tus descendientes llegará a viejo.

And thou shalt behold the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel; and there shall not be an old man in thy house for ever.

33 A cualquiera de tus hijos que yo no aparte de mi altar, tú lo verás para llenarte de dolor. Todos tus descendientes morirán en plena juventud.

And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thy heart; and all the increase of thy house shall die in the flower of their age.

34 C omo señal de lo que te he dicho, tus dos hijos, Jofní y Finés, morirán el mismo día.

And this shall be the sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall die both of them.

35 P ero levantaré un sacerdote que me sea fiel, y que haga lo que a mí me agrada. Yo haré que no le falten descendientes, y estará delante de mi ungido todos los días de su vida.

And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

36 E l que haya sobrevivido en tu familia, irá y se arrodillará delante de él, y le rogará que le dé una moneda de plata y un bocado de pan, y que lo ocupe en algún trabajo entre los sacerdotes para tener qué comer.»

And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thy house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.
