1 E scúchenme, cielos, que voy a hablar; ¡que oiga la tierra lo que dirán mis labios!

Give ear, ye heavens, and I will speak; And let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

2 M i enseñanza se derramará como la lluvia; mis razonamientos caerán como el rocío. Serán como la llovizna sobre la grama, como gotas de agua sobre la hierba.

My doctrine shall drop as the rain; My speech shall distil as the dew, As the small rain upon the tender grass, And as the showers upon the herb.

3 V oy a proclamar el nombre del Señor; voy a enaltecer a nuestro Dios.

For I will proclaim the name of Jehovah: Ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

4 É l es nuestra Roca, y su obra es perfecta; todos sus caminos son de justicia. Es el Dios de la verdad, justo y recto; en él no hay ninguna maldad.

The Rock, his work is perfect; For all his ways are justice: A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, Just and right is he.

5 L a corrupción no es suya, sino de sus hijos, que son gente torcida y perversa.

They have dealt corruptly with him, they are not his children, it is their blemish; They are a perverse and crooked generation.

6 T ú, pueblo loco e ignorante, ¿así le pagas al Señor? ¡Él es tu padre! ¡Es tu Creador! ¡Él te hizo y te afirmó!

Do ye thus requite Jehovah, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? He hath made thee, and established thee.

7 A cuérdate de los tiempos pasados; trae a la memoria los años ya idos. Pregúntale a tu padre, y te lo dirá; y a tus ancianos, y te contarán

Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations: Ask thy father, and he will show thee; Thine elders, and they will tell thee.

8 c uando el Altísimo dio su herencia a las naciones, cuando hizo el reparto entre el género humano: él estableció los linderos de los pueblos según el número de los hijos de Israel.

When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, When he separated the children of men, He set the bounds of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel.

9 L a porción del Señor es su pueblo; Jacob es la herencia que le tocó.

For Jehovah's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

10 L o encontró en un lugar deshabitado; en un yermo horrible y solitario. Lo atrajo hacía él mismo, y lo instruyó; ¡lo cuidó como a la niña de sus ojos!

He found him in a desert land, And in the waste howling wilderness; He compassed him about, he cared for him, He kept him as the apple of his eye.

11 A sí como el águila revolotea sobre el nido y anima a sus polluelos a volar, y extiende sus alas y los levanta en vilo, y los sostiene sobre sus alas,

As an eagle that stirreth up her nest, That fluttereth over her young, He spread abroad his wings, he took them, He bare them on his pinions.

12 a sí también el Señor los guió, sin la ayuda de ningún dios extraño.

Jehovah alone did lead him, And there was no foreign god with him.

13 L os hizo ascender a las alturas de la tierra, y les dio a comer los frutos del campo; de la roca los hizo libar dulce miel, ¡del duro pedernal los hizo extraer aceite!

He made him ride on the high places of the earth, And he did eat the increase of the field; And he made him to suck honey out of the rock, And oil out of the flinty rock;

14 L os alimentó con leche y mantequilla, con grasa de corderos y carneros de Basán, y con la carne de machos cabríos; les dio a comer del mejor trigo y les dio a beber del mejor vino.

Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock, With fat of lambs, And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, With the finest of the wheat; And of the blood of the grape thou drankest wine.

15 P ero Jesurún engordó y dio de coces (engordó, se llenó de grasa), y abandonó al Dios que lo hizo; ¡menospreció a la Roca de su salvación!

But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: Thou art waxed fat, thou art grown thick, thou art become sleek; Then he forsook God who made him, And lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

16 C on dioses ajenos despertó sus celos; con sus repugnantes hechos provocó su ira.

They moved him to jealousy with strange gods; With abominations provoked they him to anger.

17 E n vez de ofrecerle sacrificios a Dios, se los ofreció a los demonios, a dioses que nunca antes había conocido; a dioses nuevos, venidos de cerca, a los que sus padres nunca antes adoraron.

They sacrificed unto demons, which were no God, To gods that they knew not, To new gods that came up of late, Which your fathers dreaded not.

18 T e olvidaste de la Roca que te creó; te olvidaste del Dios que te dio el ser.

Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, And hast forgotten God that gave thee birth.

19 E l Señor vio esto, y se encendió su ira, porque sus hijos y sus hijas lo menospreciaron.

And Jehovah saw it, and abhorred them, Because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

20 E ntonces dijo: «Les daré la espalda. Voy a ver en qué terminan, porque son una generación perversa; son unos hijos inconstantes.

And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: For they are a very perverse generation, Children in whom is no faithfulness.

21 D espiertan mis celos con sus ídolos; ¡provocan mi enojo con dioses que no son dioses! Pero yo también los provocaré a celos con un pueblo que no es pueblo; provocaré su enojo con una nación insensata.

They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; They have provoked me to anger with their vanities: And I will move them to jealousy with those that are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

22 P orque mi ira es un fuego ardiente, y arderá hasta las profundidades del sepulcro; devorará la tierra y sus frutos, y consumirá los fundamentos de los montes.

For a fire is kindled in mine anger, And burneth unto the lowest Sheol, And devoureth the earth with its increase, And setteth on fire the foundations of the mountains.

23 A montonaré sobre ellos calamidades; ¡lanzaré contra ellos mis saetas!

I will heap evils upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them:

24 E l hambre, la fiebre y la peste los consumirán, y acabarán con ellos; también enviaré contra ellos colmillos de fieras y el veneno de serpientes de la tierra.

They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat And bitter destruction; And the teeth of beasts will I send upon them, With the poison of crawling things of the dust.

25 A fuera, los aniquilará la espada; adentro de sus casas, los dominará el terror; lo mismo a jóvenes que a doncellas, lo mismo a niños de pecho que a gente anciana.

Without shall the sword bereave, And in the chambers terror; It shall destroy both young man and virgin, The suckling with the man of gray hairs.

26 » Yo había jurado que los esparciría muy lejos, que pondría fin a su memoria entre los hombres,

I said, I would scatter them afar, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men;

27 p ero evité las provocaciones del enemigo, para que no se envanecieran sus adversarios. No quise que creyeran que todo esto lo había hecho su propia mano, y no el Señor.

Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, Lest their adversaries should judge amiss, Lest they should say, Our hand is exalted, And Jehovah hath not done all this.

28 P orque son una nación carente de buen juicio: no tienen capacidad de entendimiento.

For they are a nation void of counsel, And there is no understanding in them.

29 ¡ Si al menos fueran sabios y entendieran esto, Y se dieran cuenta del fin que les espera!

Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, That they would consider their latter end!

30 ¿ Cómo podría un solo hombre perseguir a mil, si yo, el Señor, no se los hubiera vendido? ¿Cómo podrían sólo dos poner en fuga a diez mil, si yo, su Roca, no se los hubiera entregado?»

How should one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Except their Rock had sold them, And Jehovah had delivered them up?

31 L a roca de aquellos no es como nuestra Roca, y hasta nuestros enemigos pueden constatarlo.

For their rock is not as our Rock, Even our enemies themselves being judges.

32 L a vid de ellos es de la vid de Sodoma, ¡es de los campos de Gomorra! Sus uvas son uvas ponzoñosas, y producen racimos de amargura.

For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, And of the fields of Gomorrah: Their grapes are grapes of gall, Their clusters are bitter:

33 S u vino es un veneno de serpientes, ¡no es sino mortal ponzoña de áspides!

Their wine is the poison of serpents, And the cruel venom of asps.

34 « ¿Acaso no he guardado esto conmigo, y lo tengo sellado entre mis tesoros?

Is not this laid up in store with me, Sealed up among my treasures?

35 A mí me corresponde tomar venganza; ¡en su momento caerán, y les daré su merecido! Ya se acerca el día de su aflicción; ¡pronto viene lo que les tengo preparado!»

Vengeance is mine, and recompense, At the time when their foot shall slide: For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things that are to come upon them shall make haste.

36 S í, el Señor juzgará a su pueblo, y por amor de sus siervos cambiará de parecer al ver que su fuerza se ha debilitado y que ya no quedan siervos ni libres.

For Jehovah will judge his people, And repent himself for his servants; When he seeth that their power is gone, And there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

37 E ntonces dirá: «¿Y dónde están sus dioses, esas rocas en las que se refugiaban,

And he will say, Where are their gods, The rock in which they took refuge;

38 q ue se comían la grasa de sus sacrificios, y bebían el vino de sus libaciones? ¡Que se levanten y vengan a ayudarlos! ¡Que vengan a defenderlos!

Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, And drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let them rise up and help you, Let them be your protection.

39 R econozcan ahora que yo soy Dios, y que no hay otros dioses conmigo. Yo doy la vida, y yo la quito; yo hiero de muerte, y yo devuelvo la vida, y no hay nadie que pueda evitarlo.

See now that I, even I, am he, And there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; And there is none that can deliver out of my hand.

40 Y o levanto la mano hacia los cielos y juro que vivo para siempre,

For I lift up my hand to heaven, And say, As I live for ever,

41 C uando afile mi espada reluciente y eche mano de ella en el juicio, tomaré venganza de mis enemigos y a los que me odian les daré su merecido.

If I whet my glittering sword, And my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine adversaries, And will recompense them that hate me.

42 E mpaparé de sangre mis saetas, y mi espada se saciará de carne viva; de la sangre de los heridos y de los cautivos, de las cabezas de mis enemigos de larga melena.»

I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh; With the blood of the slain and the captives, From the head of the leaders of the enemy.

43 U stedes las naciones, alaben al pueblo del Señor, porque él vengará la sangre de sus siervos y tomará venganza de sus enemigos; ¡él hará expiación por la tierra de su pueblo!

Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: For he will avenge the blood of his servants, And will render vengeance to his adversaries, And will make expiation for his land, for his people.

44 M oisés se presentó ante el pueblo y, junto con Josué hijo de Nun, les repitió todas las palabras de este cántico.

And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.

45 Y cuando Moisés terminó de recitar todas estas palabras ante todo Israel,

And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel;

46 l es dijo: «Entréguense de corazón a cumplir todas las palabras de esta ley que hoy les he expuesto, y vean que sus hijos las cumplan, y ocúpense de cumplirlas.

And he said unto them, Set your heart unto all the words which I testify unto you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, even all the words of this law.

47 N o se trata de palabras sin sentido, sino que se trata de su propia vida. Por medio de esta ley ustedes prolongarán su vida sobre la tierra al otro lado del Jordán, adonde ahora se dirigen para tomar posesión de ella.» Moisés contempla la tierra de Canaán

For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.

48 E se mismo día el Señor habló con Moisés. Le dijo:

And Jehovah spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying,

49 « Sube al monte Abarín, a la cumbre del monte Nebo, que está en la tierra de Moab, frente a Jericó, y contempla la tierra de Canaán, que yo doy a los hijos de Israel como su propiedad.

Get thee up into this mountain of Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession;

50 A llí, en ese monte al cual vas a subir, morirás y te reunirás con tu pueblo, del mismo modo que antes tu hermano Aarón murió en el monte Hor y fue a reunirse con su pueblo.

and die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:

51 A llá, en las aguas de Meriba de Cades, en el desierto de Zin, ustedes pecaron contra mí delante de los hijos de Israel, y delante de ellos no me santificaron.

because ye trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel.

52 P or eso, sólo verás ante tus ojos la tierra que voy a dar a los hijos de Israel, pero no entrarás en ella.»

For thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither into the land which I give the children of Israel.
