1 D espués Noemí, la suegra de Rut, le dijo: «Hija mía, es mi obligación buscarte un hogar, para que puedas ser feliz.

And Naomi her mother-in-law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

2 B ooz es nuestro pariente, y tú ya has estado trabajando con sus criadas. Precisamente esta noche él va a separar la paja del grano de cebada.

And now is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to-night in the threshing-floor.

3 A sí que báñate y perfúmate, y ponte el mejor de tus vestidos, y ve a la era; pero no te presentes ante ese hombre hasta que haya acabado de comer y de beber.

Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the threshing-floor, but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

4 Y cuando se vaya a dormir, fíjate en dónde se acuesta; y ve luego y levanta el manto con que se cubre los pies. Entonces él te dirá lo que tienes que hacer.»

And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.

5 Y Rut respondió: «Haré todo lo que tú me mandes hacer.»

And she said unto her, All that thou sayest I will do.

6 Y Rut fue a la era e hizo todo lo que su suegra le mandó hacer.

And she went down unto the threshing-floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law bade her.

7 Y cuando Booz terminó de comer y beber, y estaba muy contento, se retiró a dormir junto a un montón de cebada. Entonces Rut llegó sigilosamente, descubrió los pies de Booz y se acostó.

And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.

8 A eso de la medianoche, Booz despertó sobresaltado y, al darse la vuelta, se dio cuenta que había una mujer acostada a sus pies.

And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself; and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.

9 E ntonces le preguntó: «¿Quién eres?» Y ella respondió: «Soy Rut, tu sierva. Protege a esta sierva tuya bajo tu manto, porque tú eres mi pariente cercano.»

And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thy handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thy handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

10 B ooz le dijo: «¡Que Dios te bendiga, hija mía, por esto que has hecho! Al final, tu bondad ha sido mayor que al principio, pues no has ido a buscar a otros más jóvenes que yo, pobres o ricos.

And he said, Blessed be thou of Jehovah, my daughter: thou hast showed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.

11 N o te preocupes, hija mía. Yo haré contigo lo que tú me digas, pues toda la gente de mi pueblo sabe que eres una mujer ejemplar.

And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou sayest; for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a worthy woman.

12 P ero toma en cuenta que, aunque es verdad que yo soy uno de tus parientes cercanos, hay otro aún más cercano que yo.

And now it is true that I am a near kinsman; howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.

13 D uerme aquí esta noche; y mañana, cuando sea de día, si él te rescata, está bien; que te rescate. Pero si no te quiere rescatar, yo lo haré. Pongo al Señor como testigo. Ahora descansa, y hasta mañana.»

Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as Jehovah liveth: lie down until the morning.

14 Y Rut durmió a los pies de Booz, pero al amanecer se levantó antes de que se pudieran reconocer unos a otros, pues Booz le dijo que nadie debía saber que una mujer había estado en la era.

And she lay at his feet until the morning. And she rose up before one could discern another. For he said, Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing-floor.

15 P ero antes le dijo: «Quítate el manto, y sujétalo.» Ella lo extendió, y él echó allí seis medidas de cebada, luego se las echó al hombro, y Rut se fue a la ciudad.

And he said, Bring the mantle that is upon thee, and hold it; and she held it; and he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and he went into the city.

16 C uando llegó con su suegra, ésta le preguntó: «¿Qué pasó, hija mía?» Y Rut le contó todo lo que había sucedido con Booz.

And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.

17 Y añadió: «Me dio estas seis medidas de cebada y me dijo: Éstas son para que no regreses con las manos vacías.»

And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said, Go not empty unto thy mother-in-law.

18 E ntonces Noemí dijo: «Espera un poco, hija mía, hasta ver cómo se resuelve este asunto, porque Booz no descansará, hasta dejarlo arreglado.»

Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall; for the man will not rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
