1 T iempo después, los efraimitas se reunieron para dirigirse al norte y hablar con Jefté. Y le reclamaron: «¿Por qué fuiste solo a pelear contra los amonitas? ¿Por qué no nos llamaste para que fuéramos contigo? ¡Ahora vamos a quemar tu casa, y a ti en ella!»

And the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.

2 J efté les respondió: «Mi pueblo y yo teníamos un gran pleito con los amonitas. Cuando yo los llamé, ustedes no salieron en mi defensa.

And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye saved me not out of their hand.

3 C omo vi que ustedes no venían en mi ayuda, me arriesgué y luché contra ellos, y el Señor me los entregó. ¿Por qué, entonces, vienen ahora a querer pelear conmigo?»

And when I saw that ye saved me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Jehovah delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?

4 L uego, Jefté reunió a los guerreros de Galaad, y peleó contra los efraimitas, y los derrotó, pues habían dicho: «Ustedes los galaaditas, que viven entre Efraín y Manasés, se apartaron de la familia de Efraín.»

Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim, ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.

5 Y así, los galaaditas se apropiaron de los vados del Jordán que habían sido de la familia de Efraín. Y cuando los efraimitas que huían querían cruzar el vado, los de Galaad les preguntaban: «¿Eres efrateo?» Si respondían que no,

And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And it was so, that, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;

6 l es pedían que dijeran «Shibolet». Y si el fugitivo decía «Sibolet», porque no podía pronunciar esa palabra correctamente, le echaban mano y lo degollaban junto a los vados del Jordán. Así murieron cuarenta y dos mil efraimitas.

then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth; and he said Sibboleth; for he could not frame to pronounce it right: then they laid hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim forty and two thousand.

7 Y Jefté el galaadita fue caudillo de Israel durante seis años. Cuando murió, fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad. Ibzán, Elón y Abdón, jueces de Israel

And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.

8 D espués de Jefté, el caudillo de Israel fue Ibzán de Belén,

And after him Ibzan of Beth-lehem judged Israel.

9 q ue tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas, y a todos los casó con gente que no era de su pueblo. Ibzán gobernó a Israel durante siete años,

And he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

10 y cuando murió fue sepultado en Belén.

And Ibzan died, and was buried at Beth-lehem.

11 D espués de Ibzán, el caudillo de Israel fue Elón el zabulonita, que gobernó a Israel durante diez años.

And after him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

12 C uando murió Elón, fue sepultado en Ayalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.

And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13 D espués de Elón, el caudillo de Israel fue Abdón hijo de Hilel, el piratonita,

And after him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.

14 q ue tuvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos, y cada uno de ellos montaba su propio asno. Abdón gobernó a Israel durante ocho años,

And he had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.

15 y cuando murió fue sepultado en Piratón, en el monte de Amalec, que es la tierra de Efraín.

And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekites.
