1 P ecaj hijo de Remalías tenía diecisiete años de reinar sobre Israel cuando Ajaz hijo de Yotán comenzó a reinar sobre Judá.

In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah Ahaz the son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign.

2 C uando comenzó a reinar, Ajaz tenía veinte años, y reinó dieciséis años en Jerusalén. Pero a diferencia de su antepasado David, no hizo lo recto a los ojos del Señor su Dios,

Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he did not that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah his God, like David his father.

3 s ino que siguió el mal ejemplo de los reyes de Israel, llegando incluso a sacrificar en el fuego a su hijo, según las repugnantes prácticas de las naciones que el Señor echó de la presencia de los hijos de Israel.

But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations, whom Jehovah cast out from before the children of Israel.

4 T ambién ofreció sacrificios y quemó incienso en los altares de los montes, y en las colinas, y bajo la sombra de todo árbol frondoso.

And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

5 E ntonces el rey Resín de Siria y el rey de Israel, Pecaj hijo de Remalías, le declararon la guerra a Ajaz y sitiaron la ciudad de Jerusalén, pero no pudieron conquistarla.

Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to war: and they besieged Ahaz, but could not overcome him.

6 F ue entonces cuando el rey de Edom recobró Elat para Edom, y expulsó de allí a los hombres de Judá. Entonces los edomitas vinieron a Elat, y hasta el día de hoy viven allí.

At that time Rezin king of Syria recovered Elath to Syria, and drove the Jews from Elath; and the Syrians came to Elath, and dwelt there, unto this day.

7 A jaz envió embajadores al rey Tiglat Piléser de Asiria, con este mensaje: «Yo soy tu siervo. Soy también tu hijo. Ven a defenderme del rey de Siria y del rey de Israel, que se han levantado en armas contra mí.»

So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me.

8 A demás, Ajaz tomó la plata y el oro que había en el templo del Señor y en los tesoros del palacio real, y se lo envió al rey de Asiria como un presente.

And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent it for a present to the king of Assyria.

9 E l rey de Asiria respondió a su llamado, pues vino y atacó Damasco, y la tomó y se llevó cautivos a los habitantes de Quir. A Resín le quitó la vida.

And the king of Assyria hearkened unto him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried the people of it captive to Kir, and slew Rezin.

10 D espués el rey Ajaz fue a Damasco para encontrarse con el rey Tiglat Piléser de Asiria. Allí el rey Ajaz se fijó en el altar que estaba en Damasco, y le envió al sacerdote Urías el diseño y la descripción exacta de ese altar.

And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and saw the altar that was at Damascus; and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship thereof.

11 Y mientras el rey Ajaz volvía de Damasco, el sacerdote Urías construyó el altar, tal y como el rey Ajaz lo había descrito desde Damasco.

And Urijah the priest built an altar: according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so did Urijah the priest make it against the coming of king Ahaz from Damascus.

12 C uando el rey volvió de Damasco y vio el altar, se acercó a éste y ofreció sacrificios allí.

And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the altar: and the king drew near unto the altar, and offered thereon.

13 P resentó su holocausto y su ofrenda, y derramó sus libaciones, y esparció sobre el altar la sangre de sus sacrificios de paz;

And he burnt his burnt-offering and his meal-offering, and poured his drink-offering, and sprinkled the blood of his peace-offerings, upon the altar.

14 l uego, mandó quitar el altar de bronce que estaba en la parte delantera del templo del Señor, entre el altar y el templo, y lo puso al norte del nuevo altar.

And the brazen altar, which was before Jehovah, he brought from the forefront of the house, from between his altar and the house of Jehovah, and put it on the north side of his altar.

15 E ntonces el rey Ajaz ordenó al sacerdote Urías: «En el altar grande quemarás el holocausto de la mañana y la ofrenda de la tarde, más el holocausto y la ofrenda del rey, lo mismo que el holocausto y la ofrenda y libaciones de todo el pueblo; sobre él esparcirás toda la sangre del holocausto y toda la sangre del sacrificio. Pero el altar de bronce será mío, para que yo consulte a Dios en él.»

And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt-offering, and the evening meal-offering, and the king's burnt-offering, and his meal-offering, with the burnt-offering of all the people of the land, and their meal-offering, and their drink-offerings; and sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt-offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: but the brazen altar shall be for me to inquire by.

16 Y el sacerdote Urías hizo todo tal y como el rey Ajaz se lo mandó.

Thus did Urijah the priest, according to all that king Ahaz commanded.

17 E l rey Ajaz desmontó los tableros de las bases, y les quitó las fuentes; quitó también el mar que estaba sobre los bueyes de bronce, y lo puso sobre una base de piedra.

And king Ahaz cut off the panels of the bases, and removed the laver from off them, and took down the sea from off the brazen oxen that were under it, and put it upon a pavement of stone.

18 P or causa del rey de Asiria quitó también del templo del Señor el pórtico para los días de reposo, que se había construido en el templo, lo mismo que el pasadizo exterior del rey.

And the covered way for the sabbath that they had built in the house, and the king's entry without, turned he unto the house of Jehovah, because of the king of Assyria.

19 L os demás hechos y obras de Ajaz, se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá.

Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

20 C uando el rey Ajaz fue a reunirse con sus antepasados, fue sepultado con ellos en la ciudad de David, y en su lugar reinó su hijo Ezequías.

And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
