1 D ecidí mantenerme vigilante. Decidí mantenerme en pie sobre la fortaleza. Decidí no dormir hasta saber lo que el Señor me iba a decir, y qué respuesta daría a mi queja.

I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will look forth to see what he will speak with me, and what I shall answer concerning my complaint.

2 Y el Señor me respondió, y me dijo: «Escribe esta visión. Grábala sobre unas tablillas, para que pueda leerse de corrido.

And Jehovah answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that readeth it.

3 L a visión va a tardar todavía algún tiempo, pero su cumplimiento se acerca, y no dejará de cumplirse. Aunque tarde, espera a que llegue, porque vendrá sin falta. No tarda ya.

For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hasteth toward the end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay.

4 A quel cuya alma no es recta, es arrogante; pero el justo vivirá por su fe.

Behold, his soul is puffed up, it is not upright in him; but the righteous shall live by his faith.

5 E l que es afecto al vino, es traicionero y soberbio, y por lo tanto no permanecerá, pues ensancha su garganta como el sepulcro y es insaciable como la muerte; reúne para sí mismo a todos los pueblos y naciones. Ayes contra los injustos

Yea, moreover, wine is treacherous, a haughty man, that keepeth not at home; who enlargeth his desire as Sheol, and he is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all peoples.

6 » ¿Y no habrán de burlarse de ti, y de lanzarte sarcásticos refranes? No faltarán quienes digan: “¡Ay de ti, que acumulabas bienes ajenos! ¿Hasta cuándo habrías de amontonar lo que a otros arrebataste?”

Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and that ladeth himself with pledges!

7 » ¿No habrán de levantarse de pronto tus deudores, y al despertar te harán temblar, y serás para ellos botín de guerra?

Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booty unto them?

8 T ú has despojado de sus bienes a muchas naciones; por eso todos los otros pueblos te despojarán. Y es que tú has derramado mucha sangre, has cometido muchos robos en la tierra y en las ciudades, y contra todos sus habitantes.

Because thou hast plundered many nations, all the remnant of the peoples shall plunder thee, because of men's blood, and for the violence done to the land, to the city and to all that dwell therein.

9 » ¡Ay de ti, que codicias ganancias injustas para tu casa, y que pones en alto tu nido para escaparte del poder del mal!

Woe to him that getteth an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!

10 P ara vergüenza de tu casa, hiciste planes malvados, asolaste a muchos pueblos, y has pecado contra tu vida.

Thou hast devised shame to thy house, by cutting off many peoples, and hast sinned against thy soul.

11 C iertamente, las piedras de los muros clamarán contra ti, y las tablas del enmaderado repetirán el eco.

For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

12 » ¡Ay de ti, que edificas la ciudad con sangre, y que la fundas sobre la iniquidad!

Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and establisheth a city by iniquity!

13 ¿ Acaso no lo ha determinado el Señor de los ejércitos? Los pueblos trabajarán para el fuego, y las naciones se fatigarán en vano.

Behold, is it not of Jehovah of hosts that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

14 P orque así como el mar rebosa de agua, también la tierra rebosará con el conocimiento de la gloria del Señor.

For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea.

15 » ¡Ay de ti, que embriagas a tu prójimo! ¡Ay de ti, que le acercas el odre y lo emborrachas para contemplar su desnudez!

Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink, to thee that addest thy venom, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

16 E so, en vez de honrarte, te llena de deshonra, ¡pero también tú beberás y mostrarás tu desnudez! El Señor mismo vendrá a ti, y con su mano derecha te dará a beber del cáliz, y tu honra quedará cubierta de afrentoso vómito.

Thou art filled with shame, and not glory: drink thou also, and be as one uncircumcised; the cup of Jehovah's right hand shall come round unto thee, and foul shame shall be upon thy glory.

17 C iertamente, la rapiña del Líbano recaerá sobre ti, y las fieras te despedazarán. Y es que tú has derramado mucha sangre, has cometido muchos robos en la tierra y en las ciudades, y contra todos sus habitantes.

For the violence done to Lebanon shall cover thee, and the destruction of the beasts, which made them afraid; because of men's blood, and for the violence done to the land, to the city and to all that dwell therein.

18 » ¿De qué sirve la escultura que hace el escultor? ¿De que sirve la estatua fundida, maestra de mentira, obra en la que pone su confianza el que hace imágenes mudas?

What profiteth the graven image, that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he that fashioneth its form trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

19 ¡ Ay del que pide al palo que despierte, y que a la piedra muda le pide levantarse! ¿Cómo pretende ser maestro? ¡Sus imágenes están recubiertas de oro y plata, y no hay en ellas ningún hálito de vida!»

Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise! Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

20 P ero el Señor está en su santo templo. ¡Que calle delante de él toda la tierra!

But Jehovah is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
