1 T odo tiene su tiempo. Hay un momento bajo el cielo para toda actividad:

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:

2 E l momento en que se nace, y el momento en que se muere; el momento en que se planta, y el momento en que se cosecha;

a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 e l momento en que se hiere, y el momento en que se sana; el momento en que se construye, y el momento en que se destruye;

a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 e l momento en que se llora, y el momento en que se ríe; el momento en que se sufre, y el momento en que se goza;

a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 e l momento en que se esparcen piedras, y el momento en que se amontonan; el momento de la bienvenida, y el momento de la despedida;

a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 e l momento de buscar, y el momento de perder; el momento de guardar, y el momento de desechar;

a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 e l momento de romper, y el momento de coser; el momento de callar, y el momento de hablar;

a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 e l momento de amar, y el momento de odiar; el momento de hacer la guerra, y el momento de hacer la paz.

a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

9 ¿ Qué provecho obtiene el que trabaja, de todos sus afanes?

What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboreth?

10 M e he dado cuenta de la pesada carga que Dios ha impuesto a los mortales para humillarlos con ella.

I have seen the travail which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith.

11 E n su momento, Dios todo lo hizo hermoso, y puso en el corazón de los mortales la noción de la eternidad, aunque éstos no llegan a comprender en su totalidad lo hecho por Dios.

He hath made everything beautiful in its time: also he hath set eternity in their heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God hath done from the beginning even to the end.

12 Y o sé bien que para los mortales no hay nada mejor que gozar de la vida y de todo lo bueno que ésta ofrece,

I know that there is nothing better for them, than to rejoice, and to do good so long as they live.

13 y sé también que es un don de Dios el que todo hombre coma y beba y disfrute de lo bueno de todos sus afanes.

And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.

14 T ambién sé que todo lo que Dios ha hecho permanecerá para siempre, sin que nada se le añada ni nada se le quite, y que esto lo hace Dios para que se le guarde reverencia.

I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it; and God hath done it, that men should fear before him.

15 ¿ Qué hay ahora, que antes no existiera? ¿Y qué habrá de existir, que no exista ya? Dios hurga en el pasado. Injusticias de la vida

That which is hath been long ago; and that which is to be hath long ago been: and God seeketh again that which is passed away.

16 A demás, me he dado cuenta de la maldad e iniquidad que existe donde debiera impartirse justicia y prevalecer el derecho.

And moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.

17 Y en mi corazón he concluido que Dios habrá de juzgar a los justos y a los injustos, porque hay un tiempo y un lugar para todo proyecto y para toda actividad.

I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

18 D entro de mí concluyo que esto es así porque Dios quiere poner a prueba a los mortales, para que vean que ellos mismos son semejantes a las bestias.

I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are but as beasts.

19 P orque lo mismo les pasa a los hombres y a las bestias: unos y otros respiran y mueren por igual, y nada tienen los hombres por encima de las bestias. Todo es vanidad.

For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; and man hath no preeminence above the beasts: for all is vanity.

20 T odo va a un mismo lugar. Todo está hecho de polvo, y todo al polvo volverá.

All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

21 ¿ Hay quien sepa si el espíritu de los hombres se eleva a las alturas, mientras que el espíritu de las bestias desciende al fondo de la tierra?

Who knoweth the spirit of man, whether it goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast, whether it goeth downward to the earth?

22 L o que he visto es, que no hay nada mejor para el hombre que disfrutar de su trabajo, porque eso es lo que le ha correspondido hacer. Porque ¿quién va a traerlo a ver lo que pasará después de su muerte?

Wherefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him back to see what shall be after him?
