1 T odo tiene su tiempo, y todo lo que se quiere debajo del cielo tiene su hora:

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:

2 T iempo de nacer y tiempo de morir, tiempo de plantar y tiempo de arrancar lo plantado,

a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 t iempo de matar y tiempo de curar, tiempo de destruir y tiempo de edificar,

a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 t iempo de llorar y tiempo de reír, tiempo de hacer duelo y tiempo de bailar,

a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 t iempo de esparcir piedras y tiempo de juntarlas, tiempo de abrazar y tiempo de abstenerse de abrazar,

a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 t iempo de buscar y tiempo de perder, tiempo de guardar y tiempo de tirar,

a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 t iempo de rasgar y tiempo de coser, tiempo de callar y tiempo de hablar,

a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 t iempo de amar y tiempo de aborrecer, tiempo de guerra, y tiempo de paz.

a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

9 ¿ Qué provecho obtiene el que trabaja de aquello en que se afana?

What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboreth?

10 H e visto el trabajo que Dios ha dado a los hijos de los hombres para que se ocupen en él.

I have seen the travail which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith.

11 T odo lo hizo hermoso en su tiempo, y ha puesto eternidad en el corazón del hombre, sin que este alcance a comprender la obra hecha por Dios desde el principio hasta el fin.

He hath made everything beautiful in its time: also he hath set eternity in their heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God hath done from the beginning even to the end.

12 S é que no hay para el hombre cosa mejor que alegrarse y hacer bien en su vida,

I know that there is nothing better for them, than to rejoice, and to do good so long as they live.

13 y también que es don de Dios que todo hombre coma y beba, y goce de los beneficios de toda su labor.

And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.

14 S é que todo lo que Dios hace es perpetuo: Nada hay que añadir ni nada que quitar. Dios lo hace para que los hombres teman delante de él.

I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it; and God hath done it, that men should fear before him.

15 L o que antes fue, ya es, y lo que ha de ser, fue ya; y Dios restaura lo pasado. Injusticias de la vida

That which is hath been long ago; and that which is to be hath long ago been: and God seeketh again that which is passed away.

16 V i más cosas debajo del sol: en lugar del juicio, la maldad; y en lugar de la justicia, la iniquidad.

And moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.

17 Y dije en mi corazón: «Al justo y al malvado juzgará Dios; porque allí hay un tiempo para todo lo que se quiere y para todo lo que se hace.»

I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

18 D ije también en mi corazón: «Esto es así, por causa de los hijos de los hombres, para que Dios los pruebe, y vean que ellos mismos son semejantes a las bestias.»

I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are but as beasts.

19 P ues lo mismo les sucede a los hijos de los hombres que a las bestias: como mueren las unas, así mueren los otros, y todos tienen un mismo aliento de vida. No es más el hombre que la bestia, porque todo es vanidad.

For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; and man hath no preeminence above the beasts: for all is vanity.

20 T odo va a un mismo lugar; todo fue hecho del polvo, y todo al polvo volverá.

All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

21 ¿ Quién sabe si el espíritu de los hijos de los hombres sube a lo alto, y el espíritu del animal baja a lo hondo de la tierra?

Who knoweth the spirit of man, whether it goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast, whether it goeth downward to the earth?

22 A sí, pues, he visto que no hay cosa mejor para el hombre que alegrarse en su trabajo, porque ésa es su recompensa; porque, ¿quién lo llevará para que vea lo que ha de venir después de él?

Wherefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him back to see what shall be after him?
