1 P alabra que Jehová dirigió a Sofonías hijo de Cusi hijo de Gedalías, hijo de Amarías, hijo de Ezequías, en días de Josías hijo de Amón, rey de Judá:

The word of Jehovah which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

2 « Destruiré por completo todas las cosas de sobre la faz de la tierra, dice Jehová.

I will utterly consume all things from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah.

3 D estruiré hombres y bestias, destruiré las aves del cielo y los peces del mar, haré perecer a los malvados, y extirparé a los hombres de sobre la faz de la tierra, dice Jehová.

I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah.

4 » Extenderé mi mano contra Judá y contra todos los habitantes de Jerusalén. Exterminaré de este lugar los restos de Baal y el nombre de los ministros idólatras junto con sus sacerdotes.

And I will stretch out my hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarim with the priests;

5 E xterminaré a los que sobre los terrados se postran ante el ejército del cielo, a los que se postran jurando por Jehová y jurando por Milcom,

and them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship, that swear to Jehovah and swear by Malcam;

6 a los que se apartan de Jehová, a los que no buscaron a Jehová ni lo consultaron.

and them that are turned back from following Jehovah; and those that have not sought Jehovah, nor inquired after him.

7 » Calla en la presencia de Jehová, el Señor, porque el día de Jehová está cercano, porque Jehová ha preparado un sacrificio y ha consagrado a sus convidados.

Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord Jehovah; for the day of Jehovah is at hand: for Jehovah hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath consecrated his guests.

8 » En el día del sacrificio de Jehová castigaré a los príncipes, a los hijos del rey y a todos los que visten como extranjeros.

And it shall come to pass in the day of Jehovah's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's sons, and all such as are clothed with foreign apparel.

9 A simismo castigaré en aquel día a todos los que saltan la puerta y a los que llenan las casas de sus señores de robo y de engaño.

And in that day I will punish all those that leap over the threshold, that fill their master's house with violence and deceit.

10 » Así dice Jehová: Habrá en aquel día voz de clamor desde la puerta del Pescado, aullido desde la segunda puerta y gran quebrantamiento desde los collados.

And in that day, saith Jehovah, there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills.

11 A ullad, habitantes de Mactes, porque todo el pueblo mercader ha sido destruido; extirpados han sido todos los que trafican con dinero.

Wail, ye inhabitants of Maktesh; for all the people of Canaan are undone; all they that were laden with silver are cut off.

12 » Acontecerá en aquel tiempo que yo escudriñaré a Jerusalén con linterna y castigaré a los hombres que reposan tranquilos como el vino asentado, los cuales dicen en su corazón: “Jehová ni hará bien ni hará mal”.

And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps; and I will punish the men that are settled on their lees, that say in their heart, Jehovah will not do good, neither will he do evil.

13 P or tanto, serán saqueados sus bienes y sus casas asoladas; edificarán casas, mas no las habitarán, plantarán viñas, mas no beberán de su vino.

And their wealth shall become a spoil, and their houses a desolation: yea, they shall build houses, but shall not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but shall not drink the wine thereof.

14 » ¡Cercano está el día grande de Jehová! ¡Cercano, muy próximo! Amargo será el clamor del día de Jehová; hasta el valiente allí gritará.

The great day of Jehovah is near, it is near and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of Jehovah; the mighty man crieth there bitterly.

15 D ía de ira aquel día, día de angustia y de aprieto, día de alboroto y de asolamiento, día de tiniebla y de oscuridad, día de nublado y de entenebrecimiento,

That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

16 d ía de trompeta y de alarido sobre las ciudades fortificadas y sobre las altas torres.

a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fortified cities, and against the high battlements.

17 L lenaré de tribulación a los hombres, y ellos andarán como ciegos, porque pecaron contra Jehová. Su sangre será derramada como polvo y su carne como estiércol.

And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against Jehovah; and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as dung.

18 » Ni su plata ni su oro podrán librarlos en el día de la ira de Jehová, pues toda la tierra será consumida con el fuego de su celo, porque él exterminará repentinamente a todos los habitantes de la tierra.»

Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of Jehovah's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he will make an end, yea, a terrible end, of all them that dwell in the land.
