1 P asadas estas cosas, aconteció que Nabot, de Jezreel, tenía una viña junto al palacio de Acab, rey de Samaria.

And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

2 A cab dijo a Nabot: —Dame tu viña para un huerto de legumbres, porque está cercana a mi casa, y yo te daré por ella otra viña mejor que ésta; o si mejor te parece, te pagaré su valor en dinero.

And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house; and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it: or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

3 N abot respondió a Acab: —¡Líbreme Jehová de darte yo la heredad de mis padres!

And Naboth said to Ahab, Jehovah forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

4 A cab se marchó a su casa triste y enojado, por lo que Nabot, de Jezreel, le había respondido, al decirle: «No te daré la heredad de mis padres.» Se acostó en su cama, volvió su rostro y no comió.

And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

5 S u mujer Jezabel se le acercó y le dijo: —¿Por qué estás tan decaído de espíritu y no comes?

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

6 É l respondió: —Porque hablé con Nabot, de Jezreel, y le dije que me vendiera su viña o que, si lo prefería, le daría otra viña por ella. Y él respondió: “Yo no te daré mi viña.”

And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

7 S u mujer Jezabel le dijo: —¿No eres acaso tú el rey de Israel? Levántate, come y alégrate; yo te daré la viña de Nabot de Jezreel.

And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thy heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

8 E ntonces escribió ella cartas en nombre de Acab, las selló con su anillo y las envió a los ancianos y a los principales que vivían en la ciudad junto a Nabot.

So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, and that dwelt with Naboth.

9 L as cartas que escribió decían así: «Proclamad un ayuno y sentad a Nabot delante del pueblo.

And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:

10 P oned a dos hombres perversos frente a él, que atestigüen contra él y digan: “Tú has maldecido a Dios y al rey.” Luego sacadlo y apedreadlo para que muera.»

and set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst curse God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him to death.

11 L os de su ciudad, los ancianos y los principales que habitaban en ella, hicieron como Jezabel les mandó, conforme a lo escrito en las cartas que ella les había enviado.

And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.

12 P romulgaron un ayuno y pusieron a Nabot delante del pueblo.

They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

13 L legaron los dos hombres perversos y se sentaron frente a él. Aquellos hombres perversos atestiguaron contra Nabot delante del pueblo diciendo: «Nabot ha maldecido a Dios y al rey.» Entonces lo llevaron fuera de la ciudad y lo apedrearon, y murió.

And the two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him: and the base fellows bare witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did curse God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones.

14 D espués enviaron a decir a Jezabel: «Nabot ha sido apedreado y ha muerto.»

Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

15 C uando Jezabel oyó que Nabot había sido apedreado y muerto, dijo a Acab: «Levántate y toma posesión de la viña de Nabot, de Jezreel, la que no te quiso vender, pues Nabot ya no vive, sino que ha muerto.»

And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

16 A l escuchar Acab que Nabot había muerto, se levantó para descender a la viña de Nabot, de Jezreel, y tomar posesión de ella.

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

17 E ntonces llegó la palabra de Jehová a Elías, el tisbita, diciendo:

And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

18 « Levántate, desciende a encontrarte con Acab, rey de Israel, que está en Samaria. Él está en la viña de Nabot, a la cual ha descendido para tomar posesión de ella.

Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwelleth in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to take possession of it.

19 T ú le dirás: “Así ha hablado Jehová: ¿No sólo has matado, sino que también despojas?” Y volverás a decirle: “Así ha dicho Jehová: En el mismo lugar donde lamieron los perros la sangre de Nabot, los perros lamerán también tu sangre, tu misma sangre.”»

And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, Hast thou killed and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

20 A cab dijo a Elías: —¿Me has hallado, enemigo mío? —Te he encontrado —respondió él—, porque te has prestado a hacer lo malo delante de Jehová.

And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself to do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah.

21 Y o voy a traer el mal sobre ti, barreré tu posteridad y destruiré hasta el último hombre de la casa de Acab, tanto al siervo como al libre en Israel.

Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will utterly sweep thee away and will cut off from Ahab every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel:

22 P ondré tu casa como la casa de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat y como la casa de Baasa hijo de Ahías, por la rebelión con que provocaste mi ira y por haber hecho pecar a Israel.

and I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and hast made Israel to sin.

23 D e Jezabel también ha hablado Jehová, diciendo: “Los perros se comerán a Jezabel en el muro de Jezreel.”

And of Jezebel also spake Jehovah, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.

24 A l que de la familia de Acab muera en la ciudad, los perros lo comerán, y al que muera en el campo, se lo comerán las aves del cielo.

Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the birds of the heavens eat.

25 ( A la verdad, ninguno fue como Acab, quien se prestó a hacer lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová porque Jezabel, su mujer, lo incitaba.

(But there was none like unto Ahab, who did sell himself to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

26 S e comportó de manera abominable, yendo tras los ídolos, conforme a todo lo que hicieron los amorreos, a los cuales expulsó Jehová ante los hijos de Israel.)

And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel.)

27 S ucedió que cuando Acab oyó estas palabras, rasgó sus vestidos, ciñó su carne con ropas ásperas, ayunó, durmió sobre las ropas ásperas y anduvo humillado.

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

28 L legó entonces la palabra de Jehová a Elías, el tisbita, diciendo:

And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

29 « ¿No has visto cómo Acab se ha humillado delante de mí? Pues por haberse humillado delante de mí, no traeré el mal mientras él viva; en tiempos de su hijo traeré el mal sobre su casa.»

Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
