1 F ueron, pues, acabados los cielos y la tierra, y todo lo que hay en ellos.

And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 E l séptimo día concluyó Dios la obra que hizo, y reposó el séptimo día de todo cuanto había hecho.

And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 E ntonces bendijo Dios el séptimo día y lo santificó, porque en él reposó de toda la obra que había hecho en la creación.

And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it he rested from all his work which God had created and made.

4 É stos son los orígenes de los cielos y de la tierra cuando fueron creados. Adán y Eva en el Edén Cuando Jehová Dios hizo la tierra y los cielos,

These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven.

5 a ún no había ninguna planta del campo sobre la tierra ni había nacido ninguna hierba del campo, porque Jehová Dios todavía no había hecho llover sobre la tierra ni había hombre para que labrara la tierra,

And no plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Jehovah God had not caused it to rain upon the earth: and there was not a man to till the ground;

6 s ino que subía de la tierra un vapor que regaba toda la faz de la tierra.

but there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7 E ntonces Jehová Dios formó al hombre del polvo de la tierra, sopló en su nariz aliento de vida y fue el hombre un ser viviente.

And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8 J ehová Dios plantó un huerto en Edén, al oriente, y puso allí al hombre que había formado.

And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward, in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9 E hizo Jehová Dios nacer de la tierra todo árbol delicioso a la vista y bueno para comer; también el árbol de la vida en medio del huerto, y el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal.

And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10 S alía de Edén un río para regar el huerto, y de allí se repartía en cuatro brazos.

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four heads.

11 E l primero se llama Pisón; es el que rodea toda la tierra de Havila, donde hay oro.

The name of the first is Pishon: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12 E l oro de aquella tierra es bueno; y hay allí también bedelio y ónice.

and the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

13 E l segundo río se llama Gihón; es el que rodea toda la tierra de Cus.

And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush.

14 E l tercer río se llama Hidekel; es el que va al oriente de Asiria. El cuarto río es el Éufrates.

And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth in front of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 T omó, pues, Jehová Dios al hombre y lo puso en el huerto de Edén, para que lo labrara y lo cuidara.

And Jehovah God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16 Y mandó Jehová Dios al hombre, diciendo: «De todo árbol del huerto podrás comer;

And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 p ero del árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal no comerás, porque el día que de él comas, ciertamente morirás.»

but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18 D espués dijo Jehová Dios: «No es bueno que el hombre esté solo: le haré ayuda idónea para él.»

And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.

19 J ehová Dios formó, pues, de la tierra toda bestia del campo y toda ave de los cielos, y las trajo a Adán para que viera cómo las había de llamar; y el nombre que Adán dio a los seres vivientes, ése es su nombre.

And out of the ground Jehovah God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the heavens; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them: and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 Y puso Adán nombre a toda bestia, a toda ave de los cielos y a todo ganado del campo; pero no se halló ayuda idónea para él.

And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help meet for him.

21 E ntonces Jehová Dios hizo caer un sueño profundo sobre Adán y, mientras éste dormía, tomó una de sus costillas y cerró la carne en su lugar.

And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof:

22 D e la costilla que Jehová Dios tomó del hombre, hizo una mujer, y la trajo al hombre.

and the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 D ijo entonces Adán: «¡Ésta sí que es hueso de mis huesos y carne de mi carne! Será llamada “Mujer”, porque del hombre fue tomada.»

And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 P or tanto dejará el hombre a su padre y a su madre, se unirá a su mujer y serán una sola carne.

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 E staban ambos desnudos, Adán y su mujer, pero no se avergonzaban.

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
