1 L os filisteos pelearon contra Israel; huyeron delante de ellos los israelitas, pues muchos cayeron heridos de muerte en el monte Gilboa.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

2 L os filisteos siguieron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

3 A l concentrar sus ataques contra Saúl, le alcanzaron los flecheros y fue herido por ellos.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

4 E ntonces dijo Saúl a su escudero: «Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y hagan mofa de mí»; pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl tomó la espada y se echó sobre ella.

Then said Saul unto his armor-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

5 C uando su escudero vio a Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y se mató.

And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.

6 A sí murieron Saúl y sus tres hijos; y toda su casa murió junto con él.

So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

7 A l ver todos los de Israel que habitaban en el valle que habían huido las tropas y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, dejaron sus ciudades y huyeron. Vinieron entonces los filisteos y se establecieron en ellas.

And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 S ucedió al día siguiente, que al venir los filisteos a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos tendidos en el monte Gilboa.

And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

9 L uego que lo despojaron, tomaron su cabeza y sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para dar la buena noticia a sus ídolos y al pueblo.

And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

10 D espués pusieron sus armas en el templo de sus dioses y colgaron su cabeza en el templo de Dagón.

And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

11 C uando oyeron los de Jabes de Galaad lo que habían hecho los filisteos de Saúl,

And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 s e levantaron todos los hombres valientes, tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos, y los trajeron a Jabes; enterraron sus huesos debajo de una encina en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13 A sí murió Saúl a causa de su rebelión con que pecó contra Jehová, contra la palabra de Jehová, la cual no guardó, y porque consultó a una adivina,

So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire thereby,

14 y no consultó a Jehová; por esta causa lo mató, y traspasó el reino a David hijo de Isaí.

and inquired not of Jehovah: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
