Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 M ucho me regocijé cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu verdad, de cómo andas en la verdad.

For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bare witness unto thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth.

4 N o tengo yo mayor gozo que oír que mis hijos andan en la verdad. Elogio de la hospitalidad de Gayo

Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

5 A mado, fielmente te conduces cuando prestas algún servicio a los hermanos, especialmente a los desconocidos,

Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest toward them that are brethren and strangers withal;

6 l os cuales han dado ante la iglesia testimonio de tu amor; y harás bien en encaminarlos como es digno de su servicio a Dios, para que continúen su viaje,

who bare witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well to set forward on their journey worthily of God:

7 p ues ellos salieron por amor del nombre de Él, sin aceptar nada de los gentiles.

because that for the sake of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

8 N osotros, pues, debemos acoger a tales personas, para que cooperemos con la verdad. La oposición de Diótrefes

We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow-workers for the truth.

9 Y o he escrito a la iglesia; pero Diótrefes, al cual le gusta tener el primer lugar entre ellos, no nos recibe.

I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

10 P or esta causa, si yo voy, recordaré las obras que hace profiriendo palabras malignas contra nosotros; y no contento con estas cosas, no recibe a los hermanos, y a los que quieren recibirlos se lo prohíbe y los expulsa de la iglesia. Buen testimonio acerca de Demetrio

Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth and casteth them out of the church.

11 A mado, no imites lo malo, sino lo bueno. El que hace lo bueno es de Dios, pero el que hace lo malo no ha visto a Dios.

Beloved, imitate not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

12 T odos dan buen testimonio de Demetrio, y aun la verdad misma; y también nosotros damos testimonio, y vosotros sabéis que nuestro testimonio es verdadero. Salutaciones finales

Demetrius hath the witness of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness: and thou knowest that our witness is true.

13 Y o tenía muchas cosas que escribirte, pero no quiero escribírtelas con tinta y pluma,

I had many things to write unto thee, but I am unwilling to write them to thee with ink and pen:

14 p orque espero verte en breve y hablaremos cara a cara. La paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda tú a los amigos, a cada uno en particular.

but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be unto thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
