1 ¿ No soy apóstol? ¿No soy libre? ¿No he visto a Jesús el Señor nuestro? ¿No sois vosotros mi obra en el Señor?

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not ye my work in the Lord?

2 S i para otros no soy apóstol, para vosotros ciertamente lo soy, porque el sello de mi apostolado sois vosotros en el Señor.

If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

3 C ontra los que me acusan, ésta es mi defensa:

My defence to them that examine me is this.

4 ¿ Acaso no tenemos derecho a comer y beber?

Have we no right to eat and to drink?

5 ¿ No tenemos derecho a llevar con nosotros una hermana por esposa, como hacen también los otros apóstoles, los hermanos del Señor y Cefas?

Have we no right to lead about a wife that is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

6 ¿ O sólo yo y Bernabé no tenemos derecho a no trabajar?

Or I only and Barnabas, have we not a right to forbear working?

7 ¿ Quién fue jamás soldado a sus propias expensas? ¿Quién planta una viña y no come de su fruto? ¿O quién apacienta el rebaño y no toma de la leche del rebaño?

What soldier ever serveth at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not the fruit thereof? Or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

8 ¿ Digo esto sólo como hombre? ¿No dice esto también la Ley?

Do I speak these things after the manner of men? or saith not the law also the same?

9 E n la ley de Moisés está escrito: «No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla.» ¿Se preocupa Dios por los bueyes

For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. Is it for the oxen that God careth,

10 o lo dice enteramente por nosotros? Sí, por nosotros se escribió esto, porque con esperanza debe arar el que ara y el que trilla, con esperanza de recibir del fruto.

or saith he it assuredly for our sake? Yea, for our sake it was written: because he that ploweth ought to plow in hope, and he that thresheth, to thresh in hope of partaking.

11 S i nosotros sembramos entre vosotros lo espiritual, ¿será mucho pedir que cosechemos de vosotros lo material?

If we sowed unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we shall reap your carnal things?

12 S i otros participan de este derecho sobre vosotros, ¿cuánto más nosotros? Sin embargo, no hemos usado de este derecho, sino que lo soportamos todo por no poner ningún obstáculo al evangelio de Cristo.

If others partake of this right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right; but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.

13 ¿ No sabéis que los que trabajan en las cosas sagradas, comen del Templo, y que los que sirven al altar, del altar participan?

Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat of the things of the temple, and they that wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar?

14 A sí también ordenó el Señor a los que anuncian el evangelio, que vivan del evangelio.

Even so did the Lord ordain that they that proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel.

15 P ero yo de nada de esto me he aprovechado, ni tampoco he escrito esto para que se haga así conmigo, porque prefiero morir, antes que nadie me prive de esta mi gloria.

But I have used none of these things: and I write not these things that it may be so done in my case; for it were good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my glorifying void.

16 S i anuncio el evangelio, no tengo por qué gloriarme, porque me es impuesta necesidad; y ¡ay de mí si no anunciara el evangelio!

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of; for necessity is laid upon me; for woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel.

17 P or eso, si lo hago de buena voluntad, recompensa tendré; pero si de mala voluntad, la comisión me ha sido encomendada.

For if I do this of mine own will, I have a reward: but if not of mine own will, I have a stewardship intrusted to me.

18 ¿ Cuál, pues, es mi recompensa? Que, predicando el evangelio, presente gratuitamente el evangelio de Cristo, para no abusar de mi derecho en el evangelio.

What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, so as not to use to the full my right in the gospel.

19 P or lo cual, siendo libre de todos, me he hecho siervo de todos para ganar al mayor número.

For though I was free from all men, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more.

20 M e he hecho a los judíos como judío, para ganar a los judíos; a los que están sujetos a la Ley (aunque yo no esté sujeto a la Ley) como sujeto a la Ley, para ganar a los que están sujetos a la Ley;

And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 a los que están sin Ley, como si yo estuviera sin Ley (aunque yo no estoy sin ley de Dios, sino bajo la ley de Cristo), para ganar a los que están sin Ley.

to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law.

22 M e he hecho débil a los débiles, para ganar a los débiles; a todos me he hecho de todo, para que de todos modos salve a algunos.

To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak: I am become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some.

23 Y esto hago por causa del evangelio, para hacerme copartícipe de él.

And I do all things for the gospel's sake, that I may be a joint partaker thereof.

24 ¿ No sabéis que los que corren en el estadio, todos a la verdad corren, pero uno solo se lleva el premio? Corred de tal manera que lo obtengáis.

Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain.

25 T odo aquel que lucha, de todo se abstiene; ellos, a la verdad, para recibir una corona corruptible, pero nosotros, una incorruptible.

And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 A sí que yo de esta manera corro, no como a la ventura; de esta manera peleo, no como quien golpea el aire;

I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air:

27 s ino que golpeo mi cuerpo y lo pongo en servidumbre, no sea que, habiendo sido heraldo para otros, yo mismo venga a ser eliminado.

but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.
