1 A l tercer mes de haber salido los hijos de Israel de la tierra de Egipto, ese mismo día, llegaron al desierto de Sinaí.

In the third month after the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

2 H abían salido de Refidim, y al llegar al desierto de Sinaí acamparon en el desierto. Israel acampó allí frente al monte,

And when they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mount.

3 y Moisés subió a encontrarse con Dios. Jehová lo llamó desde el monte y le dijo: —Así dirás a la casa de Jacob, y anunciarás a los hijos de Israel:

And Moses went up unto God, and Jehovah called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:

4 “ Vosotros visteis lo que hice con los egipcios, y cómo os tomé sobre alas de águila y os he traído a mí.

Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

5 A hora, pues, si dais oído a mi voz y guardáis mi pacto, vosotros seréis mi especial tesoro sobre todos los pueblos, porque mía es toda la tierra.

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be mine own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine:

6 V osotros me seréis un reino de sacerdotes y gente santa.” Éstas son las palabras que dirás a los hijos de Israel.

and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

7 E ntonces regresó Moisés, llamó a los ancianos del pueblo y expuso en su presencia todas estas palabras que Jehová le había mandado.

And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Jehovah commanded him.

8 T odo el pueblo respondió a una diciendo: —Haremos todo lo que Jehová ha dicho. Moisés refirió a Jehová las palabras del pueblo,

And all the people answered together, and said, All that Jehovah hath spoken we will do. And Moses reported the words of the people unto Jehovah.

9 y Jehová le dijo: —Yo vendré a ti en una nube espesa, para que el pueblo oiga mientras yo hablo contigo, y así te crean para siempre. Moisés refirió las palabras del pueblo a Jehová,

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto Jehovah.

10 y Jehová le dijo: —Ve al pueblo, y santifícalos hoy y mañana. Que laven sus vestidos

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments,

11 y estén preparados para el tercer día, porque al tercer día Jehová descenderá a la vista de todo el pueblo sobre el monte Sinaí.

and be ready against the third day; for the third day Jehovah will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

12 S eñalarás límites alrededor del pueblo, y dirás: “Guardaos, no subáis al monte ni toquéis sus límites; cualquiera que toque el monte, de seguro morirá.”

And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

13 N o lo tocará mano alguna, porque será apedreado o muerto a flechazos; sea animal o sea hombre, no quedará con vida. Cuando resuene la bocina, subirán al monte.

no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, he shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

14 D escendió, pues, Moisés del monte al pueblo, y santificó al pueblo y ellos lavaron sus vestidos.

And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments.

15 D ijo al pueblo: —Estad preparados para el tercer día, y absteneos de mujer.

And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not near a woman.

16 A conteció que al tercer día, cuando vino la mañana, hubo truenos y relámpagos, una espesa nube cubrió el monte y se oyó un sonido de bocina muy fuerte. Todo el pueblo que estaba en el campamento se estremeció.

And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a trumpet exceeding loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled.

17 M oisés sacó del campamento al pueblo para recibir a Dios, y ellos se detuvieron al pie del monte.

And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

18 T odo el monte Sinaí humeaba, porque Jehová había descendido sobre él en medio del fuego. El humo subía como el humo de un horno, y todo el monte se estremecía violentamente.

And mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because Jehovah descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

19 E l sonido de la bocina se hacía cada vez más fuerte. Moisés hablaba, y Dios le respondía con voz de trueno.

And when the voice of the trumpet waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

20 D escendió Jehová sobre el monte Sinaí, sobre la cumbre del monte. Llamó Jehová a Moisés a la cumbre del monte, y Moisés subió.

And Jehovah came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount: and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

21 J ehová dijo a Moisés: —Desciende y ordena al pueblo que no traspase los límites para ver a Jehová, porque caerá multitud de ellos.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish.

22 Q ue también se santifiquen los sacerdotes que se acercan a Jehová, para que Jehová no haga entre ellos estrago.

And let the priests also, that come near to Jehovah, sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth upon them.

23 M oisés dijo a Jehová: —El pueblo no podrá subir al monte Sinaí, porque tú nos has mandado diciendo: “Señala límites al monte y santifícalo.”

And Moses said unto Jehovah, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou didst charge us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

24 P ero Jehová le dijo: —Ve, desciende, y luego subirás junto con Aarón; pero que los sacerdotes y el pueblo no traspasen el límite para subir adonde está Jehová, no sea que haga entre ellos estrago.

And Jehovah said unto him, Go, get thee down; and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto Jehovah, lest he break forth upon them.

25 E ntonces Moisés descendió, y se lo dijo al pueblo.

So Moses went down unto the people, and told them.
