1 « Yo envío mi mensajero para que prepare el camino delante de mí. Y vendrá súbitamente a su Templo el Señor a quien vosotros buscáis; y el ángel del pacto, a quien deseáis vosotros, ya viene», ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos.

Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire, behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.

2 ¿ Pero quién podrá soportar el tiempo de su venida? o ¿quién podrá estar en pie cuando él se manifieste? Porque él es como fuego purificador y como jabón de lavadores.

But who can abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap:

3 É l se sentará para afinar y limpiar la plata: limpiará a los hijos de Leví, los afinará como a oro y como a plata, y traerán a Jehová ofrenda en justicia.

and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer unto Jehovah offerings in righteousness.

4 E ntonces será grata a Jehová la ofrenda de Judá y de Jerusalén, como en los días pasados, como en los años antiguos.

Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto Jehovah, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years.

5 « Vendré a vosotros para juicio, y testificaré sin vacilar contra los hechiceros y adúlteros, contra los que juran falsamente; contra los que defraudan en su salario al jornalero, a la viuda y al huérfano, contra los que hacen injusticia al extranjero, sin tener temor de mí», dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the sojourner from his right, and fear not me, saith Jehovah of hosts.

6 « Porque yo, Jehová, no cambio; por esto, hijos de Jacob, no habéis sido consumidos.

For I, Jehovah, change not; therefore ye, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

7 D esde los días de vuestros padres os apartáis de mis leyes y no las guardáis. ¡Volveos a mí y yo me volveré a vosotros!, ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos. Pero vosotros decís: “¿En qué hemos de volvernos?”

From the days of your fathers ye have turned aside from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts. But ye say, Wherein shall we return?

8 ¿ Robará el hombre a Dios? Pues vosotros me habéis robado. Y aún preguntáis: “¿En qué te hemos robado?” En vuestros diezmos y ofrendas.

Will a man rob God? yet ye rob me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

9 M alditos sois con maldición, porque vosotros, la nación toda, me habéis robado.

Ye are cursed with the curse; for ye rob me, even this whole nation.

10 T raed todos los diezmos al alfolí y haya alimento en mi Casa: Probadme ahora en esto, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, a ver si no os abro las ventanas de los cielos y derramo sobre vosotros bendición hasta que sobreabunde.

Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 R eprenderé también por vosotros al devorador, y no os destruirá el fruto de la tierra, ni vuestra vid en el campo será estéril, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before the time in the field, saith Jehovah of hosts.

12 T odas las naciones os dirán bienaventurados, porque seréis tierra deseable, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

And all nations shall call you happy; for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith Jehovah of hosts.

13 » Vuestras palabras contra mí han sido violentas, dice Jehová. Y todavía preguntáis: “¿Qué hemos hablado contra ti?”

Your words have been stout against me, saith Jehovah. Yet ye say, What have we spoken against thee?

14 H abéis dicho: “Por demás es servir a Dios. ¿Qué aprovecha que guardemos su Ley y que andemos afligidos en presencia de Jehová de los ejércitos?

Ye have said, It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked mournfully before Jehovah of hosts?

15 H emos visto que los soberbios son felices, que los que hacen impiedad no sólo prosperan, sino que tientan a Dios, y no les pasa nada.”»

And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are built up; yea, they tempt God, and escape.

16 E ntonces los que temían a Jehová hablaron entre sí. Jehová escuchó y oyó, y fue escrito ante él un memorial de los que temen a Jehová y honran su nombre.

Then they that feared Jehovah spake one with another; and Jehovah hearkened, and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared Jehovah, and that thought upon his name.

17 « Serán para mí especial tesoro, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, en el día en que yo actúe. Los perdonaré como un hombre perdona al hijo que lo sirve.

And they shall be mine, saith Jehovah of hosts, even mine own possession, in the day that I make; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

18 E ntonces os volveréis y discerniréis la diferencia entre el justo y el malo, entre el que sirve a Dios y el que no le sirve.»

Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
