1 J ehová habló a Moisés y le dijo:

And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

2 « Envía unos hombres que reconozcan la tierra de Canaán, la cual yo doy a los hijos de Israel; enviaréis un hombre por cada tribu paterna, todos ellos príncipes.»

Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a prince among them.

3 E ntonces los envió Moisés desde el desierto de Parán, conforme a la palabra de Jehová. Todos aquellos hombres eran príncipes de los hijos de Israel.

And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of Jehovah: all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

4 É stos son sus nombres: De la tribu de Rubén, Samúa hijo de Zacur.

And these were their names: Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

5 D e la tribu de Simeón, Safat hijo de Horí.

Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.

6 D e la tribu de Judá, Caleb hijo de Jefone.

Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

7 D e la tribu de Isacar, Igal hijo de José.

Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

8 D e la tribu de Efraín, Oseas hijo de Nun.

Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun.

9 D e la tribu de Benjamín, Palti hijo de Rafú.

Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

10 D e la tribu de Zabulón, Gadiel hijo de Sodi.

Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

11 D e la tribu de José, por la tribu de Manasés, Gadi hijo de Susi.

Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

12 D e la tribu de Dan, Amiel hijo de Gemali.

Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

13 D e la tribu de Aser, Setur hijo de Micael.

Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

14 D e la tribu de Neftalí, Nahbi hijo de Vapsi.

Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

15 D e la tribu de Gad, Geuel hijo de Maqui.

Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

16 É stos son los nombres de los hombres que Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra. A Oseas hijo de Nun le puso Moisés el nombre de Josué.

These are the names of the men that Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

17 L os envió, pues, Moisés a reconocer la tierra de Canaán, diciéndoles: «Subid de aquí al Neguev y luego subid al monte.

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way by the South, and go up into the hill-country:

18 O bservad cómo es la tierra y el pueblo que la habita, si es fuerte o débil, escaso o numeroso;

and see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many;

19 c ómo es la tierra habitada, si es buena o mala; cómo son las ciudades habitadas, si son campamentos o plazas fortificadas,

and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;

20 y cómo es el terreno, si es fértil o estéril, si en él hay árboles o no. Esforzaos y traed de los frutos del país.» Era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.

and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.

21 E llos subieron y reconocieron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, junto a la entrada de Hamat.

So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath.

22 S ubieron al Neguev y llegaron hasta Hebrón. Allí vivían Ahimán, Sesai y Talmai, hijos de Anac. Hebrón fue edificada siete años antes de Zoán en Egipto.

And they went up by the South, and came unto Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

23 L legaron hasta el arroyo Escol y allí cortaron un sarmiento con un racimo de uvas, el cual llevaron entre dos en un palo, y también granados e higos.

And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it upon a staff between two; they brought also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

24 Y se llamó aquel lugar el valle del Escol, por el racimo que allí cortaron los hijos de Israel.

That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

25 A l cabo de cuarenta días regresaron de reconocer la tierra.

And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.

26 F ueron y se presentaron ante Moisés, Aarón y toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, en el desierto de Parán, en Cades. Les dieron la información a ellos y a toda la congregación, y les mostraron los frutos de la tierra.

And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

27 T ambién les contaron: «Nosotros llegamos a la tierra a la cual nos enviaste, la que ciertamente fluye leche y miel; éstos son sus frutos.

And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us; and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

28 P ero el pueblo que habita aquella tierra es fuerte, y las ciudades muy grandes y fortificadas; también vimos allí a los hijos de Anac.

Howbeit the people that dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

29 A malec habita el Neguev; el heteo, el jebuseo y el amorreo habitan en el monte; el cananeo habita junto al mar y a la ribera del Jordán.»

Amalek dwelleth in the land of the South: and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the hill-country; and the Canaanite dwelleth by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan.

30 E ntonces Caleb hizo callar al pueblo delante de Moisés, y dijo: —Subamos luego, y tomemos posesión de ella, porque más podremos nosotros que ellos.

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

31 P ero los hombres que subieron con él dijeron: —No podemos subir contra aquel pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.

But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

32 Y hablaron mal entre los hijos de Israel de la tierra que habían reconocido, diciendo: —La tierra que recorrimos y exploramos es tierra que se traga a sus habitantes. Todo el pueblo que vimos en medio de ella es gente de gran estatura.

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.

33 T ambién vimos allí gigantes, hijos de Anac, raza de los gigantes. Nosotros éramos, a nuestro parecer, como langostas, y así les parecíamos a ellos.

And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
