1 J oás hijo de Joacaz tenía dos años de reinar en Israel cuando Amasías hijo de Joás comenzó a reinar en Judá.

In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign.

2 A masías tenía entonces veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. Su madre se llamaba Yoadán, y era de Jerusalén.

He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3 A masías hizo lo recto a los ojos del Señor, como lo había hecho Joás, su padre, aunque no como su antepasado David.

And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

4 S in embargo, los altares en los montes no fueron quitados, pues el pueblo seguía ofreciendo sacrificios y quemando incienso en esos altares.

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

5 C uando Amasías se afirmó en el trono, mató a los siervos que habían dado muerte al rey, su padre,

And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had slain the king his father:

6 p ero no mató a los hijos de éstos, con lo que cumplió lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde el Señor claramente dice: «No se matará a los padres por culpa de los hijos, ni a los hijos por culpa de los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por causa de su propio pecado.»

but the children of the murderers he put not to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.

7 A masías también mató a diez mil edomitas en el Valle de la Sal, y en una batalla conquistó Sela, y la llamó Yoctel, que hasta el día de hoy es su nombre.

He slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Joktheel, unto this day.

8 E n cierta ocasión, Amasías envió mensajeros para desafiar al rey Joás de Israel, que era hijo de Joacaz y nieto de Jehú. El mensaje decía: «Ven, para que nos veamos las caras.»

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

9 E l rey Joás de Israel respondió al rey Amasías de Judá con esta parábola: «Una vez, en las montañas del Líbano, un cardo envió a decir al cedro: “Dale tu hija a mi hijo, para que sea su mujer.” Pero pasaron las fieras del Líbano, y pisotearon el cardo.

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle.

10 E s verdad que has derrotado a Edom, y que el corazón se te ha hinchado; por mí, puedes seguir vanagloriándote, pero dentro de tu casa. ¿Para qué meterte en problemas? ¿Quieres que tú y Judá salgan derrotados?»

Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up: glory thereof, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

11 A masías no se dio por aludido. Entonces el rey Joás de Israel se puso en marcha a Bet Semes, que está en Judá, y allí se vieron las caras el rey Amasías de Judá y él.

But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

12 Y los de Judá fueron derrotados por los de Israel, y todos salieron huyendo a su campamento.

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

13 E n Bet Semes, el rey Joás de Israel tomó cautivo al rey Amasías de Judá, que era hijo de Joás y nieto de Ocozías. Luego se dirigió a Jerusalén y derribó cuatrocientos codos de su muralla, desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta de la esquina;

And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

14 s e llevó todo el oro y la plata, y todos los utensilios que fueron hallados en el templo del Señor y en los tesoros del palacio real, tomó como rehenes a los hijos del rey, y después de eso volvió a Samaria.

And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

15 L os demás hechos de Joás, y sus hazañas, y su lucha contra el rey Amasías de Judá, se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 C uando Joás fue a reunirse con sus antepasados, fue sepultado en Samaria, junto con los reyes de Israel. En su lugar reinó su hijo Jeroboán.

And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

17 D espués de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel, Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió quince años.

And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

18 L os demás hechos de Amasías, se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá.

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 C omo en Jerusalén hubo quienes conspiraron contra él, huyó a Laquis; pero fue perseguido hasta Laquis, y allá lo mataron.

And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

20 L uego lo trajeron en caballos, y lo sepultaron en Jerusalén, la ciudad de David, junto con sus antepasados.

And they brought him upon horses; and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21 E ntonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó a Azarías, que tenía dieciséis años, y lo proclamaron rey en lugar de Amasías, su padre.

And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

22 D espués de que el rey se reunió con sus antepasados, Azarías reconstruyó Elat y la restituyó a Judá. Reinado de Jeroboán II

He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

23 A masías hijo de Joás tenía quince años de reinar sobre Judá cuando Jeroboán hijo de Joás comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó cuarenta y un años en Samaria.

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.

24 P ero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y no se apartó de todos los pecados con que Jeroboán hijo de Nabat hizo pecar a Israel.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin.

25 C onforme a la palabra que el Señor, Dios de Israel, pronunció por medio de su siervo Jonás hijo de Amitay, el profeta de Gat Jéfer, Jeroboán restauró los límites de Israel, desde la entrada de Jamat hasta el mar del Arabá.

He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath unto the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Jehovah, the God of Israel, which he spake by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher.

26 Y es que el Señor vio que Israel sufría una amarga aflicción, y que no había siervo ni libre, ni nadie que ayudara a Israel.

For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.

27 A demás, el Señor no había determinado borrar de este mundo el nombre de Israel; por eso los salvó por medio de Jeroboán hijo de Joás.

And Jehovah said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28 L os demás hechos de Jeroboán, y todas sus obras y hazañas, y todas las batallas que libró, y cómo restituyó Damasco y Jamat, que habían pertenecido a Judá, al dominio de Israel, todo eso se halla registrado en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29 C uando Jeroboán se reunió con sus antepasados, los reyes de Israel, en su lugar reinó su hijo Zacarías.

And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.
