1 L a palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías, y le dijo:

The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 « Ponte a la entrada de la casa del Señor, y proclama allí esta palabra. Di esto: “Ustedes, los de Judá, que entran por estas puertas para adorar al Señor, escuchen su palabra.”»

Stand in the gate of Jehovah's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of Jehovah, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah.

3 A sí ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: «Mejoren sus caminos y sus obras, y yo los haré habitar en este lugar.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

4 N o se fíen de palabras mentirosas, que dicen: “Templo del Señor, templo del Señor. ¡Éste es el templo del Señor!”

Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, are these.

5 A l contrario, si ustedes mejoran su conducta y sus acciones, y si imparten verdadera justicia entre ustedes y sus semejantes,

For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor;

6 y si no oprimen al extranjero, ni al huérfano ni a la viuda, ni derraman sangre inocente en este lugar, ni se van tras dioses ajenos, para su propio mal,

if ye oppress not the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt:

7 y o los haré habitar en este lugar, en la tierra que les di a sus padres para siempre.

then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even for evermore.

8 » Lo que veo es que ustedes confían en palabras mentirosas, que para nada les sirven.

Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

9 H urtan, matan, adulteran, juran falsamente, le queman incienso a Baal, y siguen a dioses extraños que nunca antes conocieron.

Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods that ye have not known,

10 ¿ Acaso van a venir a pararse delante de mí en esta casa, donde se invoca mi nombre, para decir que están en libertad de seguir haciendo todas estas cosas repugnantes?

and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered; that ye may do all these abominations?

11 ¿ Acaso esta casa, donde se invoca mi nombre, es para ustedes una cueva de ladrones? Tomen en cuenta que yo también veo esto. —Palabra del Señor.

Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, saith Jehovah.

12 » Vayan a mi santuario en Silo, donde al principio establecí la residencia de mi nombre, y vean lo que hice con él por causa de la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.

But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

13 Y ahora, como ustedes han cometido todas estas acciones, y como yo los llamé y ustedes no me respondieron, aun cuando una y otra vez les hablé, —Palabra del Señor.

And now, because ye have done all these works, saith Jehovah, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not:

14 » Con esta casa donde se invoca mi nombre, y en la que ustedes confían, y con este lugar que les di a ustedes y a sus padres, haré lo mismo que hice con Silo.

therefore will I do unto the house which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

15 V oy a arrojarlos lejos de mi presencia, como antes arrojé a todos sus hermanos, a toda la generación de Efraín.

And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

16 » Y tú, no ores por este pueblo. No eleves por ellos ningún clamor ni oración. No me ruegues por ellos, porque no voy a hacerte caso.

Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me; for I will not hear thee.

17 ¿ Acaso no ves lo que éstos hacen en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén?

Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18 L os hijos recogen la leña, los padres encienden el fuego, y las mujeres hacen la masa, para ofrecerle tortas a la reina del cielo; para presentar ofrendas a dioses ajenos; ¡para provocar mi enojo!

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

19 ¿ Pero en realidad provocarán mi enojo? ¿No es más bien para ellos mismos la vergüenza?» —Palabra del Señor.

Do they provoke me to anger? saith Jehovah; do they not provoke themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?

20 P or lo tanto, así ha dicho Dios, el Señor: «Ahora voy a derramar mi enojo y mi furor sobre este lugar. Se encenderán sobre los hombres y los animales, sobre los árboles del campo y los frutos de la tierra, y no se apagarán.» Castigo de la rebelión de Judá

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

21 A sí ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: «Añadan sus holocaustos a sus sacrificios, y cómanse la carne.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat ye flesh.

22 P orque el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, yo no hablé de esto con sus padres, ni les di ninguna orden en cuanto a holocaustos y sacrificios.

For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt-offerings or sacrifices:

23 A l contrario, esto fue lo que les ordené: “Escuchen mi voz, y yo seré su Dios, y ustedes serán mi pueblo. Vayan siempre por el camino que yo les mande seguir, para que les vaya bien.”

but this thing I commanded them, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people; and walk ye in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.

24 » Pero ellos no me hicieron caso ni me prestaron atención, sino que por la terquedad de su malvado corazón siguieron sus propios consejos, y en vez de avanzar, retrocedieron.

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

25 E sto ha sido así desde que sus padres salieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Yo, desde muy temprano y sin falta, les envié a todos mis siervos, los profetas,

Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day, I have sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

26 p ero ellos no me hicieron caso ni me prestaron atención, sino que se encapricharon y fueron peores que sus padres.

yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff: they did worse than their fathers.

27 » Tú les dirás todas estas palabras, pero no te oirán; los llamarás, pero no te responderán.

And thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

28 P or lo tanto, les dirás: “Ésta es la nación que no escuchó la voz del Señor su Dios, ni admitió corrección; por eso la verdad fue extirpada de la boca de ellos, y ya no existe.”»

And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hath not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

29 ¡ Córtate el cabello, y deshazte de él! ¡Da rienda suelta a tu llanto en la cima de los montes! ¡El Señor aborrece a la generación que ha provocado su enojo, y la ha abandonado!

Cut off thy hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

30 « ¡Ante mis propios ojos, los hijos de Judá han hecho lo malo! ¡Han profanado la casa misma donde se invoca mi nombre, al exponer allí sus actos repugnantes! —Palabra del Señor.

For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight, saith Jehovah: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

31 » Han edificado altares en los montes de Tofet, en el valle de Ben Jinón, para lanzar al fuego a sus hijos y a sus hijas, que es algo que nunca les pedí que hicieran, y que ni siquiera pensé pedirles.

And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded not, neither came it into my mind.

32 P or eso vienen días en que ese lugar ya no se llamará Tofet, ni valle de Ben Jinón, sino Valle de la Matanza. Y los muertos se enterrarán en Tofet, por no haber otro lugar. —Palabra del Señor.

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that it shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter: for they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury.

33 » Los cadáveres de esta gente serán la comida de las aves del cielo y de las bestias del campo, y no habrá quien las espante.

And the dead bodies of this people shall be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall frighten them away.

34 E n las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén pondré fin a las voces de gozo y alegría, y a la voz del esposo y de la esposa, porque la tierra quedará en ruinas.

Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.
