1 H ijo mío, presta atención a mi sabiduría, Inclina tu oído a mi prudencia,

My son, attend unto my wisdom; Incline thine ear to my understanding:

2 P ara que guardes la discreción Y tus labios conserven el conocimiento.

That thou mayest preserve discretion, And that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3 P orque los labios de la extraña destilan miel, Y su lengua es más suave que el aceite;

For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 P ero al final es amarga como el ajenjo, Aguda como espada de dos filos.

But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 S us pies descienden a la muerte, Sus pasos sólo logran el Seol.

Her feet go down to death; Her steps take hold on Sheol;

6 N o considera la senda de la vida; Sus senderos son inestables, y no lo sabe.

So that she findeth not the level path of life: Her ways are unstable, and she knoweth it not.

7 A hora pues, hijos míos, escúchenme, Y no se aparten de las palabras de mi boca.

Now therefore, my sons, hearken unto me, And depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 A leja de la extraña tu camino, Y no te acerques a la puerta de su casa;

Remove thy way far from her, And come not nigh the door of her house;

9 N o sea que des tu vigor a otros Y tus años al cruel;

Lest thou give thine honor unto others, And thy years unto the cruel;

10 N o sea que se sacien los extraños de tus bienes Y tu esfuerzo vaya a casa del extranjero;

Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, And thy labors be in the house of an alien,

11 Y al final te lamentes, Cuando tu carne y tu cuerpo se hayan consumido,

And thou mourn at thy latter end, When thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 Y digas: “¡Cómo he aborrecido la instrucción, Y mi corazón ha despreciado la corrección!

And say, How have I hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;

13 N o he escuchado la voz de mis maestros, Ni he inclinado mi oído a mis instructores.

Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

14 H e estado a punto de completa ruina En medio de la asamblea y la congregación.”

I was well-nigh in all evil In the midst of the assembly and congregation.

15 B ebe agua de tu cisterna Y agua fresca de tu pozo.

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, And running waters out of thine own well.

16 ¿ Se derramarán por fuera tus manantiales, Tus arroyos de aguas por las calles?

Should thy springs be dispersed abroad, And streams of water in the streets?

17 S ean para ti solo, Y no para los extraños contigo.

Let them be for thyself alone, And not for strangers with thee.

18 S ea bendita tu fuente, Y regocíjate con la mujer de tu juventud,

Let thy fountain be blessed; And rejoice in the wife of thy youth.

19 A mante cierva y graciosa gacela; Que sus senos te satisfagan en todo tiempo, Su amor te embriague para siempre.

As a loving hind and a pleasant doe, Let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; And be thou ravished always with her love.

20 ¿ Por qué has de embriagarte, hijo mío, con una extraña, Y abrazar el seno de una desconocida ?

For why shouldest thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, And embrace the bosom of a foreigner?

21 P ues los caminos del hombre están delante de los ojos del Señor, Y El observa todos sus senderos.

For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah; And he maketh level all his paths.

22 D e sus propias iniquidades será presa el impío, Y en los lazos de su pecado quedará atrapado.

His own iniquities shall take the wicked, And he shall be holden with the cords of his sin.

23 M orirá por falta de instrucción, Y por su mucha necedad perecerá.

He shall die for lack of instruction; And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
