1 O ráculo (Profecía) que tuvo en visión el profeta Habacuc.

The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

2 ¿ Hasta cuándo, oh Señor, pediré ayuda, Y no escucharás ? Clamo a Ti: “¡Violencia!” Sin embargo Tú no salvas ?

O Jehovah, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save.

3 ¿ Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad, Y me haces mirar la opresión? La destrucción y la violencia están delante de mí, Hay rencilla y surge la discordia.

Why dost thou show me iniquity, and look upon perverseness? for destruction and violence are before me; and there is strife, and contention riseth up.

4 P or eso no se cumple la ley Y nunca prevalece la justicia (el derecho). Porque el impío asedia al justo; Por eso sale pervertida la justicia.

Therefore the law is slacked, and justice doth never go forth; for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore justice goeth forth perverted.

5 “ ¡Miren entre las naciones! ¡Observen! ¡Asómbrense, quédense atónitos! Porque haré una obra en sus días Que ustedes no la creerían si alguien se las contara.

Behold ye among the nations, and look, and wonder marvellously; for I am working a work in your days, which ye will not believe though it be told you.

6 “ Porque voy a levantar a los Caldeos (Babilonios), Pueblo feroz e impetuoso, Que marcha por la anchura de la tierra Para apoderarse de moradas ajenas.

For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs.

7 “ Imponente y temible es; De él mismo proceden su justicia y su grandeza.

They are terrible and dreadful; their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.

8 “ Sus caballos son más veloces que leopardos Y más astutos que lobos al anochecer. Al galope vienen sus jinetes, Sus jinetes vienen de lejos, Vuelan como águila que se precipita a devorar.

Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen press proudly on: yea, their horsemen come from far; they fly as an eagle that hasteth to devour.

9 “ Vienen todos ellos para hacer violencia, Su horda de rostros avanza, Recoge cautivos como arena.

They come all of them for violence; the set of their faces is forwards; and they gather captives as the sand.

10 “ Se burla de los reyes, Y los gobernantes le son motivo de risa; Se ríe de toda fortaleza, Amontona escombros para tomarla.

Yea, he scoffeth at kings, and princes are a derision unto him; he derideth every stronghold; for he heapeth up dust, and taketh it.

11 “ Entonces pasará como el viento y seguirá, Y se le tendrá por culpable, Porque hace de su poder su dios.”

Then shall he sweep by as a wind, and shall pass over, and be guilty, even he whose might is his god.

12 ¿ No eres Tú desde la eternidad, Oh Señor, Dios mío, Santo mío ? No moriremos. Oh Señor, para juicio lo has puesto; Tú, oh Roca, lo has establecido para corrección.

Art not thou from everlasting, O Jehovah my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Jehovah, thou hast ordained him for judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established him for correction.

13 M uy limpios son Tus ojos para mirar el mal, Y no puedes contemplar la opresión. ¿Por qué miras con agrado A los que proceden pérfidamente, Y guardas silencio cuando el impío devora Al que es más justo que él?

Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;

14 ¿ Por qué has hecho a los hombres como los peces del mar, Como reptiles que no tienen jefe?

and makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

15 A todos los saca con anzuelo el pueblo invasor, Los arrastra con su red Y los junta en su malla. Por eso se alegra y se regocija,

He taketh up all of them with the angle, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad.

16 P or eso ofrece sacrificio a su red Y quema incienso a su malla, Pues gracias a ellas su pesca es abundante, Y suculenta su comida.

Therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous.

17 ¿ Vaciará, pues, su red Y seguirá matando sin piedad a las naciones ?

Shall he therefore empty his net, and spare not to slay the nations continually?
