1 D avid se fue de allí y se refugió en la cueva de Adulam. Cuando sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre lo supieron, descendieron a él allá.

David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave of Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.

2 T odo el que estaba en apuros, todo el que estaba endeudado y todo el que estaba descontento se unió a él, y él vino a ser jefe sobre ellos. Y con él había unos 400 hombres.

And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

3 D e allí David fue a Mizpa de Moab, y dijo al rey de Moab: “Permite que mi padre y mi madre vengan y se queden con ustedes hasta que yo sepa lo que Dios hará por mí.”

And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

4 L os dejó, pues, con el rey de Moab, y se quedaron con él todo el tiempo que David estuvo en el refugio.

And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the stronghold.

5 E l profeta Gad dijo a David: “No te quedes en el refugio; vete y entra en la tierra de Judá.” Y David se fue y entró en el bosque de Haret.

And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the stronghold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.

6 E ntonces se enteró Saúl de que David y los hombres que estaban con él habían sido descubiertos. Saúl estaba en Guibeá, sentado bajo un tamarisco, en el alto, con su lanza en la mano, y todos sus siervos estaban de pie alrededor de él.

And Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him: now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk-tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.

7 Y Saúl dijo a sus siervos que estaban a su alrededor: “Oigan me ahora, hijos de Benjamín. ¿Les dará también el hijo de Isaí a todos ustedes campos y viñas? ¿Los hará a todos capitanes de miles y capitanes de cientos ?

And Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,

8 P orque todos ustedes han conspirado contra mí y no hay quien me revele cuando mi hijo hace un pacto con el hijo de Isaí. Tampoco hay entre ustedes quien tenga piedad de mí ni me revele que mi hijo ha instigado a mi siervo contra mí para tenderme una emboscada, como sucede hoy.”

that all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that discloseth to me when my son maketh a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or discloseth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

9 E ntonces respondió Doeg el Edomita, que estaba junto a los siervos de Saúl: “Yo vi al hijo de Isaí venir a Nob, a donde estaba Ahimelec, hijo de Ahitob.

Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

10 Y consultó al Señor por él, le dio provisiones y le dio la espada de Goliat el Filisteo.” Matanza de los Sacerdotes de Nob

And he inquired of Jehovah for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.

11 E l rey mandó llamar al sacerdote Ahimelec, hijo de Ahitob, y a toda la casa de su padre, los sacerdotes que estaban en Nob, y todos ellos vinieron al rey.

Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.

12 Y Saúl dijo: “Escucha ahora, hijo de Ahitob.” Y éste respondió: “Aquí estoy, mi señor.”

And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

13 Y le dijo Saúl: “¿Por qué tú y el hijo de Isaí han conspirado contra mí, dándole pan y una espada, y has consultado a Dios por él para que se rebelara contra mí, tendiéndome una emboscada como sucede hoy ?”

And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

14 A himelec respondió al rey: “¿Y quién entre todos tus siervos es tan fiel como David, yerno del rey, jefe de tu guardia y se le honra en tu casa ?

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all thy servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and is taken into thy council, and is honorable in thy house?

15 ¿ Acaso comencé hoy a consultar a Dios por él ? Lejos esté esto de mí. No culpe el rey de nada a su siervo ni a ninguno de la casa de mi padre, porque su siervo no sabe nada de todo este asunto.”

Have I to-day begun to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute anything unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for thy servant knoweth nothing of all this, less or more.

16 P ero el rey dijo: “Ciertamente morirás, Ahimelec, tú y toda la casa de tu padre.”

And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.

17 Y el rey dijo a los guardias que le asistían: “Vuélvanse y den muerte a los sacerdotes del Señor, porque la mano de ellos también está con David, y porque sabían que él estaba huyendo y no me lo revelaron.” Pero los siervos del rey no quisieron levantar la mano para atacar a los sacerdotes del Señor.

And the king said unto the guard that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of Jehovah; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.

18 E ntonces el rey dijo a Doeg: “Vuélvete y ataca a los sacerdotes.” Y Doeg el Edomita, se volvió y atacó a los sacerdotes, y mató aquel día a ochenta y cinco hombres que vestían el efod de lino.

And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and he slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.

19 Y a Nob, ciudad de los sacerdotes, la hirió a filo de espada, tanto a hombres como a mujeres, tanto a niños como a niños de pecho; también hirió a filo de espada bueyes, asnos y ovejas.

And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen and asses and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

20 P ero un hijo de Ahimelec, hijo de Ahitob, llamado Abiatar, escapó y huyó tras David.

And one of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

21 A biatar avisó a David que Saúl había matado a los sacerdotes del Señor.

And Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Jehovah's priests.

22 E ntonces David dijo a Abiatar: “Yo sabía aquel día, cuando Doeg el Edomita estaba allí, que de seguro se lo haría saber a Saúl. He causado la muerte de todas las personas en la casa de tu padre.

And David said unto Abiathar, I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house.

23 Q uédate conmigo, no temas, porque el que busca mi vida, busca tu vida; pues conmigo estarás a salvo.”

Abide thou with me, fear not; for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: for with me thou shalt be in safeguard.
