1 D espués de estos actos de fidelidad, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, vino e invadió a Judá y sitió las ciudades fortificadas, y mandó conquistarlas para sí.

After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

2 C uando Ezequías vio que Senaquerib había venido y que se proponía hacer guerra contra Jerusalén,

And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

3 d ecidió con sus oficiales y guerreros cortar el agua de las fuentes que estaban fuera de la ciudad, y ellos lo ayudaron.

he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city; and they helped him.

4 Y se reunió mucha gente y cegaron todas las fuentes y el arroyo que fluía por la región, diciendo: “¿Por qué han de venir los reyes de Asiria y hallar tanta agua?”

So there was gathered much people together, and they stopped all the fountains, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

5 Y Ezequías cobró ánimo y reedificó toda la muralla que había sido derribada y levantó torres en ella, edificó otra muralla exterior, fortificó el Milo en la ciudad de David, e hizo armas arrojadizas y escudos en gran cantidad.

And he took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and the other wall without, and strengthened Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.

6 P uso también oficiales militares sobre el pueblo, los reunió a su lado en la plaza a la puerta de la ciudad y les habló dándoles ánimo:

And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the broad place at the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,

7 “ Sean fuertes y valientes; no teman ni se acobarden a causa del rey de Asiria, ni a causa de toda la multitud que está con él, porque el que está con nosotros es más poderoso que el que está con él.

Be strong and of good courage, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him:

8 C on él está sólo un brazo de carne, pero con nosotros está el Señor nuestro Dios para ayudarnos y pelear nuestras batallas.” Y el pueblo confió en las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.

with him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Jehovah our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

9 D espués de esto, mientras Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, estaba sitiando Laquis con todas sus fuerzas, envió a sus siervos a Jerusalén, a decirle a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén:

After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

10 “ Así dice Senaquerib, rey de Asiria: ‘¿En qué están ustedes confiando para que permanezcan bajo sitio en Jerusalén?

Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide the siege in Jerusalem?

11 ¿ No los engaña Ezequías para entregarlos a morir de hambre y de sed, diciéndoles: “El Señor nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria?”

Doth not Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

12 ¿ Acaso no es el mismo Ezequías el que ha quitado Sus lugares altos y Sus altares, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: “Delante de un solo altar ustedes adorarán, y sobre él quemarán incienso?”

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and upon it shall ye burn incense?

13 ¿ No saben lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho a todos los pueblos de estas tierras? ¿Pudieron los dioses de las naciones de las tierras librar su tierra de mi mano?

Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any wise able to deliver their land out of my hand?

14 ¿ Quién de entre todos los dioses de aquellas naciones que mis padres destruyeron completamente pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano, para que el Dios de ustedes pueda librarlos de mi mano ?

Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?

15 A hora pues, no dejen que Ezequías los engañe y los extravíe en esta forma. No crean en él, porque ningún dios de ninguna nación ni reino pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano ni de la mano de mis padres. ¡Cuánto menos los librará de mi mano el Dios de ustedes!’”

Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you after this manner, neither believe ye him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand?

16 Y los siervos de Senaquerib hablaron aún más contra el Señor Dios y contra su siervo Ezequías.

And his servants spake yet more against Jehovah God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

17 T ambién Senaquerib escribió cartas para insultar al Señor, Dios de Israel, y para hablar contra El, en que decía: “Como los dioses de las naciones de las tierras no han librado a sus pueblos de mi mano, así el Dios de Ezequías no librará a Su pueblo de mi mano.”

He wrote also letters, to rail on Jehovah, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand.

18 P roclamaron esto a gran voz en la lengua de Judá al pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba sobre la muralla, para espantarlos y aterrorizarlos, para así poder tomar la ciudad.

And they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

19 Y hablaron del Dios de Jerusalén como de los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.

And they spake of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.

20 P ero el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, oraron sobre esto, y clamaron al cielo.

And Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.

21 E l Señor envió un ángel que destruyó a todo guerrero valiente, comandante y capitán en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Así regresó avergonzado a su propia tierra. Y cuando entró al templo de su dios, algunos de sus propios hijos lo mataron allí a espada.

And Jehovah sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

22 A sí salvó el Señor a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de mano de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de mano de todos los demás, y los guió por todas partes.

Thus Jehovah saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.

23 Y muchos traían presentes al Señor en Jerusalén y presentes valiosos a Ezequías, rey de Judá, de modo que después de esto fue engrandecido delante de todas las naciones.

And many brought gifts unto Jehovah to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

24 E n aquellos días Ezequías cayó enfermo de muerte; y oró al Señor, y El le habló y le dio una señal.

In those days Hezekiah was sick even unto death: and he prayed unto Jehovah; and he spake unto him, and gave him a sign.

25 P ero Ezequías no correspondió al bien que había recibido, porque su corazón era orgulloso; por tanto, la ira vino sobre él, sobre Judá y sobre Jerusalén.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

26 P ero después Ezequías se humilló, quitando el orgullo de su corazón, tanto él como los habitantes de Jerusalén, de modo que no vino sobre ellos la ira del Señor en los días de Ezequías.

Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

27 E zequías tenía inmensas riquezas y honores. Hizo para sí depósitos para plata, oro, piedras preciosas, especias, escudos y toda clase de objetos de valor.

And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor: and he provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of goodly vessels;

28 H izo también almacenes para el producto de granos, vino y aceite, corrales para toda clase de ganado y rediles para los rebaños.

store-houses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and flocks in folds.

29 E l edificó ciudades y adquirió rebaños y ganados en abundancia, porque Dios le había dado muchísimas riquezas.

Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance.

30 E zequías fue el que cegó la salida superior de las aguas de Gihón y las condujo al lado occidental de la ciudad de David. Ezequías prosperó en todo lo que hizo.

This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

31 A un en el asunto de los enviados por los gobernantes de Babilonia, que los mandaron a él para investigar la maravilla que había acontecido en el país, Dios lo dejó solo para probarlo, a fin de saber todo lo que había en su corazón.

Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

32 L os demás hechos de Ezequías y sus obras piadosas, están escritos en la visión del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, y en el Libro de los Reyes de Judá y de Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33 E zequías durmió con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la parte superior de los sepulcros de los hijos de David; y todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén le rindieron honores en su muerte. Y su hijo Manasés reinó en su lugar.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
