1 “ Después nos volvimos y salimos hacia el desierto por el camino del Mar Rojo, como el Señor me había mandado, y por muchos días dimos vueltas al Monte Seir.

Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as Jehovah spake unto me; and we compassed mount Seir many days.

2 E ntonces el Señor me habló:

And Jehovah spake unto me, saying,

3 ‘ Ustedes han dado ya bastantes vueltas alrededor de este monte. Vuélvanse ahora hacia el norte,

Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

4 y da orden al pueblo, diciendo: “Ustedes van a pasar por el territorio de sus hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, y ellos les tendrán miedo. Así que tengan mucho cuidado;

And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore;

5 n o los provoquen, porque no les daré nada de su tierra, ni siquiera la huella de un pie, porque a Esaú he dado el Monte Seir por posesión.

contend not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.

6 L es comprarán con dinero los alimentos para comer, y también con dinero comprarán de ellos agua para beber.

Ye shall purchase food of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.

7 P ues el Señor tu Dios te ha bendecido en todo lo que has hecho; El ha conocido tu peregrinar a través de este inmenso desierto. Por cuarenta años el Señor tu Dios ha estado contigo; nada te ha faltado.”’ En Camino de Cades a Zered

For Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hand; he hath known thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Jehovah thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

8 “ Pasamos, pues, de largo a nuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, lejos del camino del Arabá, lejos de Elat y de Ezión Geber. Y nos volvimos, y pasamos por el camino del desierto de Moab.

So we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion-geber. And we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

9 E ntonces el Señor me dijo: ‘No molestes a Moab, ni los provoques a la guerra, porque no te daré nada de su tierra por posesión, pues he dado Ar a los hijos de Lot por posesión.

And Jehovah said unto me, Vex not Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.

10 ( Antes habitaban allí los Emitas, un pueblo tan grande, numeroso y alto como los Anaceos.

(The Emim dwelt therein aforetime, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:

11 C omo los Anaceos, ellos también son considerados gigantes, pero los Moabitas los llaman Emitas.

these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.

12 L os Horeos habitaban antes en Seir, pero los hijos de Esaú los desalojaron y los destruyeron delante de ellos, y se establecieron en su lugar, tal como Israel hizo con la tierra que el Señor les dio en posesión.)

The Horites also dwelt in Seir aforetime, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which Jehovah gave unto them.)

13 ‘ Levántense ahora, y crucen el torrente de Zered,’ dijo el Señor. Y cruzamos el torrente de Zered.

Now rise up, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.

14 E l tiempo que nos llevó para venir de Cades Barnea, hasta que cruzamos el torrente de Zered, fue de treinta y ocho años; hasta que pereció toda la generación de los hombres de guerra de en medio del campamento, como el Señor les había jurado.

And the days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, were thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah sware unto them.

15 A demás, la mano del Señor fue contra ellos, para destruirlos de en medio del campamento, hasta que todos perecieron.

Moreover the hand of Jehovah was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

16 “ Cuando todos los hombres de guerra ya habían perecido de entre el pueblo,

So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

17 e l Señor me habló:

that Jehovah spake unto me, saying,

18 ‘ Tú cruzarás hoy por Ar la frontera de Moab.

Thou art this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab:

19 Y cuando llegues frente a los Amonitas, no los molestes ni los provoques, porque no te daré en posesión nada de la tierra de los Amonitas, pues se la he dado a los hijos de Lot por heredad.’

and when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, vex them not, nor contend with them; for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.

20 ( Esta región es también conocida como la tierra de los gigantes, porque antiguamente habitaban gigantes en ella, a los que los Amonitas llaman Zomzomeos,

(That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim dwelt therein aforetime; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,

21 p ueblo grande, numeroso y alto como los Anaceos, pero que el Señor destruyó delante de ellos. Y los Amonitas los desalojaron y se establecieron en su lugar,

a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Jehovah destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead;

22 t al como Dios hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seir, cuando destruyó a los Horeos delante de ellos; y ellos los desalojaron, y se establecieron en su lugar hasta hoy.

as he did for the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:

23 Y a los Aveos que habitaban en aldeas hasta Gaza, los Caftoreos (Filisteos), que salieron de Caftor (Creta), los destruyeron y se establecieron en su lugar.)

and the Avvim, that dwelt in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, that came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)

24 ‘ Levántense; pónganse en marcha y pasen por el Valle del Arnón. Mira, he entregado en tu mano a Sehón Amorreo, rey de Hesbón, y a su tierra; comienza a tomar posesión y entra en batalla con él.

Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into thy hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

25 H oy comenzaré a infundir el espanto y terror tuyo sobre los pueblos debajo del cielo, quienes, al oír tu fama, temblarán y se angustiarán a causa de ti.’ Conquista de Sehón

This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.

26 “ Entonces, desde el desierto de Cademot, envié mensajeros a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz, diciéndole:

And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

27 ‘ Déjeme pasar por su tierra; solamente iré por el camino, sin apartarme ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.

Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither unto the right hand nor to the left.

28 M e venderá comestibles por dinero para que yo pueda comer, y me dará agua por dinero para que pueda beber; déjeme tan sólo pasar a pie,

Thou shalt sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only let me pass through on my feet,

29 t al como hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir y los Moabitas que habitan en Ar, hasta que cruce el Jordán a la tierra que el Señor nuestro Dios nos da.’

as the children of Esau that dwell in Seir, and the Moabites that dwell in Ar, did unto me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which Jehovah our God giveth us.

30 P ero Sehón, rey de Hesbón, no quiso dejarnos pasar por su tierra porque el Señor tu Dios endureció su espíritu e hizo obstinado su corazón, a fin de entregarlo en tus manos, como lo está hoy.

But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Jehovah thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as at this day.

31 Y el Señor me dijo: ‘Mira, he comenzado a entregar a Sehón y su tierra en tus manos. Comienza a ocupar la para que poseas la tierra.’

And Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.

32 “ Entonces Sehón salió con todo su pueblo a encontrarnos en batalla en Jahaza.

Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, unto battle at Jahaz.

33 Y el Señor nuestro Dios lo entregó a nosotros; y lo derrotamos a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo.

And Jehovah our God delivered him up before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.

34 E n aquel tiempo tomamos todas sus ciudades, y exterminamos a hombres, mujeres y niños de cada ciudad. No dejamos ningún sobreviviente.

And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones; we left none remaining:

35 T omamos solamente como nuestro botín los animales y los despojos de las ciudades que habíamos capturado.

only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we had taken.

36 D esde Aroer, que está a la orilla del Valle del Arnón, y desde la ciudad que está en el valle, aun hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad inaccesible para nosotros; el Señor nuestro Dios nos las entregó todas.

From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and from the city that is in the valley, even unto Gilead, there was not a city too high for us; Jehovah our God delivered up all before us:

37 P ero, conforme a todo lo que el Señor nuestro Dios había prohibido, no te acercaste a la tierra de los Amonitas, a todo lo largo del arroyo Jaboc, ni a las ciudades del monte.

only to the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill-country, and wheresoever Jehovah our God forbade us.
