1 P alabras del rey Lemuel, oráculo que le enseñó su madre.

The words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.

2 ¿ Qué, hijo mío? ¿Y qué, hijo de mis entrañas ? ¿Y qué, hijo de mis votos ?

What, my son? and what, O son of my womb? And what, O son of my vows?

3 N o des tu vigor a las mujeres, Ni tus caminos a lo que destruye a los reyes.

Give not thy strength unto women, Nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

4 N o es para los reyes, oh Lemuel, No es para los reyes beber vino, Ni para los gobernantes desear bebida fuerte;

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to say, Where is strong drink?

5 N o sea que beban y olviden lo que se ha decretado, Y perviertan los derechos de todos los afligidos.

Lest they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the justice due to any that is afflicted.

6 D enle bebida fuerte al que está pereciendo, Y vino a los amargados de alma.

Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, And wine unto the bitter in soul:

7 Q ue beba y se olvide de su pobreza, Y no recuerde más su aflicción.

Let him drink, and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.

8 A bre tu boca por los mudos, Por los derechos de todos los desdichados.

Open thy mouth for the dumb, In the cause of all such as are left desolate.

9 A bre tu boca, juzga con justicia, Y defiende los derechos del afligido y del necesitado. Elogio de la Mujer Hacendosa

Open thy mouth, judge righteously, And minister justice to the poor and needy.

10 M ujer hacendosa, ¿quién la hallará? Su valor supera en mucho al de las joyas.

A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies.

11 E n ella confía el corazón de su marido, Y no carecerá de ganancias.

The heart of her husband trusteth in her, And he shall have no lack of gain.

12 E lla le trae bien y no mal Todos los días de su vida.

She doeth him good and not evil All the days of her life.

13 B usca lana y lino, Y con agrado trabaja con sus manos.

She seeketh wool and flax, And worketh willingly with her hands.

14 E s como las naves de mercader, Trae su alimento de lejos.

She is like the merchant-ships; She bringeth her bread from afar.

15 T ambién se levanta cuando aún es de noche, Y da alimento a los de su casa Y tarea a sus doncellas.

She riseth also while it is yet night, And giveth food to her household, And their task to her maidens.

16 E valúa un campo y lo compra; Con sus ganancias planta una viña.

She considereth a field, and buyeth it; With the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17 E lla se ciñe de fuerza Y fortalece sus brazos.

She girdeth her loins with strength, And maketh strong her arms.

18 N ota que su ganancia es buena, No se apaga de noche su lámpara.

She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable: Her lamp goeth not out by night.

19 E xtiende sus manos a la rueca, Y sus manos toman el huso.

She layeth her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle.

20 E xtiende su mano al pobre, Y alarga sus manos al necesitado.

She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; Yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21 N o tiene temor de la nieve por los de su casa, Porque todos los de su casa llevan ropa escarlata.

She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 S e hace mantos para sí; Su ropa es de lino fino y de púrpura.

She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

23 S u marido es conocido en las puertas de la ciudad, Cuando se sienta con los ancianos de la tierra.

Her husband is known in the gates, When he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24 H ace telas de lino y las vende, Y provee cinturones a los mercaderes.

She maketh linen garments and selleth them, And delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25 F uerza y dignidad son su vestidura, Y sonríe al futuro.

Strength and dignity are her clothing; And she laugheth at the time to come.

26 A bre su boca con sabiduría, Y hay enseñanza de bondad en su lengua.

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her tongue.

27 E lla vigila la marcha de su casa, Y no come el pan de la ociosidad.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness.

28 S us hijos se levantan y la llaman bienaventurada, También su marido, y la alaba diciendo:

Her children rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her, saying:

29 “ Muchas mujeres han obrado con nobleza, Pero tú las superas a todas.”

Many daughters have done worthily, But thou excellest them all.

30 E ngañosa es la gracia y vana la belleza, Pero la mujer que teme al Señor, ésa será alabada.

Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain; But a woman that feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.

31 D enle el fruto de sus manos, Y que sus obras la alaben en las puertas de la ciudad.

Give her of the fruit of her hands; And let her works praise her in the gates.
