1 I n those days when an immense crowd had gathered and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and told them,

În zilele acelea s-a adunat din nou o mare mulţime de oameni şi nu aveau ce să mănânce. Isus i-a chemat pe ucenici şi le-a zis:

2 I have pity and sympathy for the people and My heart goes out to them, for they have been with Me now three days and have nothing to eat;

– Mi-e milă de mulţime, pentru că sunt deja trei zile de când stau cu Mine şi nu au ce să mănânce,

3 A nd if I send them away to their homes hungry, they will be feeble through exhaustion and faint along the road; and some of them have come a long way.

iar dacă-i las să plece acasă flămânzi, vor leşina pe drum, mai ales că unii dintre ei au venit de departe.

4 A nd His disciples replied to Him, How can anyone fill and satisfy with loaves of bread here in desolate and uninhabited region?

Ucenicii I-au zis: – De unde ar putea lua cineva pâini aici, în pustie, ca să-i sature pe aceşti oameni ?

5 A nd He asked them, How many loaves have you? They said, Seven.

Isus i-a întrebat: – Câte pâini aveţi? – Şapte, I-au răspuns ei.

6 A nd He commanded the multitude to recline upon the ground, and He took the seven loaves and, having given thanks, He broke them and kept on giving them to His disciples to put before, and they placed them before the crowd.

Isus a poruncit mulţimii să se aşeze pe pământ. Apoi a luat cele şapte pâini, a adus mulţumiri, le-a frânt şi le-a dat ucenicilor Săi ca să le împartă, iar ei le-au împărţit mulţimii.

7 A nd they had a few small fish; and when He had praised God and given thanks and asked Him to bless them, He ordered that these also should be set before.

Mai aveau şi câţiva peştişori; El i-a binecuvântat şi a zis să fie împărţiţi şi aceştia.

8 A nd they ate and were satisfied; and they took up seven '> large provision] baskets full of the broken pieces left over.

Au mâncat şi s-au săturat; şi au adunat şapte coşuri pline cu firimiturile rămase.

9 A nd there were about 4, 000 people. And He dismissed them,

Cei ce mâncaseră erau în jur de patru mii de bărbaţi. După ce le-a dat drumul,

10 A nd at once He got into the boat with His disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha (or Magdala).

Isus S-a suit imediat în barcă împreună cu ucenicii Lui şi s-au dus în părţile Dalmanutei. Fariseii cer un semn

11 T he Pharisees came and began to argue with and question Him, demanding from Him a sign (an attesting miracle from heaven) to test Him.

Fariseii au venit la El, au început să stea de vorbă cu El şi, ca să-L pună la încercare, I-au cerut să le arate un semn din cer.

12 A nd He groaned and sighed deeply in His spirit and said, Why does this generation demand a sign? Positively I say to you, no sign shall be given this generation.

Isus a oftat adânc în duhul Său şi a zis: „De ce cere această generaţie un semn? Adevărat vă spun că acestei generaţii nu i se va da nici un semn.“

13 A nd He went away and left them and, getting into the boat again, He departed to the other side.

Apoi i-a lăsat, S-a suit iarăşi în barcă şi S-a dus de cealaltă parte a mării. Drojdia fariseilor şi a lui Irod

14 N ow they had '> completely] forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat.

Ucenicii uitaseră să ia pâini şi nu aveau cu ei în barcă decât o pâine.

15 A nd Jesus charged and admonished them, saying, Look out; keep on your guard and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod and the Herodians.

Isus i-a avertizat şi le-a zis: „Fiţi atenţi şi feriţi-vă de drojdia fariseilor şi de drojdia lui Irod!“

16 A nd they discussed it and reasoned with one another, It is because we have no bread.

Ei au început să vorbească unii cu alţii şi să spună: „ Ne zice aşa pentru că nu avem pâini!“

17 A nd being aware, Jesus said to them, Why are you reasoning and saying it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet discern or understand? Are your hearts in hardness?

Înţelegând aceasta, Isus le-a zis: – De ce vorbiţi între voi că n-aveţi pâini? Tot nu pricepeţi, nici nu înţelegeţi? Aveţi inima împietrită?

18 H aving eyes, do you not see, and having ears, do you not hear and perceive and understand the sense of what is said? And do you not remember?

Aveţi ochi, dar nu vedeţi şi aveţi urechi, dar nu auziţi? Nu vă mai amintiţi,

19 W hen I broke the five loaves for the 5, 000, how many '> small hand] baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? They said to Him, Twelve.

atunci când am frânt cele cinci pâini la cei cinci mii de oameni, câte coşuri pline cu firimituri aţi adunat? – Douăsprezece, I-au răspuns ei.

20 A nd the seven loaves for the 4, 000, how many '> large provision] baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? And they said to Him, Seven.

– Iar când am frânt cele şapte pâini la cei patru mii de bărbaţi, câte coşuri pline cu firimituri aţi adunat? – Şapte, au răspuns ei.

21 A nd He kept repeating, Do you not yet understand?

Atunci El le-a zis: – Tot nu înţelegeţi? Isus vindecă un orb la Betsaida

22 A nd they came to Bethsaida. And brought to Him a blind man and begged Him to touch him.

Au venit în Betsaida. I-au adus un orb şi L-au rugat să Se atingă de el.

23 A nd He caught the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village; and when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands upon him, He asked him, Do you '> possibly] see anything?

Isus l-a luat pe orb de mână şi l-a dus afară din sat. A scuipat pe ochii acestuia, Şi-a pus mâinile peste el şi l-a întrebat: – Vezi ceva?

24 A nd he looked up and said, I see people, but like trees, walking.

Omul s-a uitat şi a zis: – Văd nişte oameni, dar mi se par ca nişte copaci care umblă!

25 T hen He put His hands on his eyes again; and the man looked intently, and he was restored and saw everything distinctly '> at a distance].

Atunci Isus Şi-a pus din nou mâinile peste ochii acestuia, iar omul a privit ţintă şi i-a revenit vederea; acum el vedea toate lucrurile clar.

26 A nd He sent him away to his house, telling, Do not enter the village or tell anyone there.

Isus l-a trimis acasă, spunându-i: – Să nu intri în sat (şi nici să nu spui cuiva în sat)! Mărturisirea de credinţă a lui Petru

27 A nd Jesus went on with His disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He asked His disciples, Who do people say that I am?

Isus şi ucenicii Lui s-au dus spre satele Cezareii lui Filip. Pe drum, Isus i-a întrebat pe ucenicii Săi: – Cine zic oamenii că sunt Eu?

28 A nd they answered, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.

Ei I-au răspuns: – Unii zic că eşti Ioan Botezătorul, alţii zic că eşti Ilie, iar alţii zic că eşti unul dintre profeţi.

29 A nd He asked them, But who do you yourselves say that I am? Peter replied to Him, You are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

– Dar voi cine ziceţi că sunt Eu? i-a mai întrebat El. Petru a răspuns: – Tu eşti Cristosul!

30 A nd He charged them sharply to tell no one about Him.

Isus i-a avertizat să nu spună nimănui despre El. Isus vorbeşte despre moartea şi învierea Sa

31 A nd He began to teach them that the Son of Man must of necessity suffer many things and be tested and disapproved and rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days rise again '> from death].

Apoi a început să-i înveţe că Fiul Omului trebuie să sufere mult şi să fie respins de către bătrâni, de către conducătorii preoţilor şi de către cărturari, să fie omorât, iar după trei zile să învie.

32 A nd He said this freely (frankly, plainly, and explicitly, making it unmistakable). And Peter took Him by the hand and led Him aside and then began to rebuke Him.

Le vorbea deschis despre aceasta. Petru însă L-a luat deoparte şi a început să-L mustre.

33 B ut turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, Get behind Me, Satan! For you do not have a mind intent on promoting what God wills, but what pleases men.

Dar Isus S-a întors, s-a uitat la ucenicii Săi şi l-a mustrat pe Petru, zicând: „Înapoia Mea, Satan, căci tu nu te gândeşti la lucrurile lui Dumnezeu, ci la lucrurile oamenilor!“

34 A nd Jesus called the throng with His disciples and said to them, If anyone intends to come after Me, let him deny himself '> lose sight of himself and his own interests] and take up his cross, and '> joining Me as a disciple and siding with My party] follow with Me.

Apoi a chemat mulţimea şi pe ucenicii Săi şi le-a zis: „Dacă vrea cineva să vină după Mine, să se lepede de sine, să-şi ia crucea şi să Mă urmeze!

35 F or whoever wants to save his '> higher, spiritual, eternal] life, will lose it '> lower, natural, temporal life which is lived only on earth]; and whoever gives up his life for My sake and the Gospel’s will save it '> higher, spiritual life in the eternal kingdom of God].

Căci oricine vrea să-şi salveze viaţa, o va pierde, dar cel ce-şi pierde viaţa pentru Mine şi pentru Evanghelie, o va salva.

36 F or what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life '> in the eternal kingdom of God]?

Şi la ce i-ar folosi unui om să câştige întreaga lume, dacă şi-ar pierde sufletul?

37 F or what can a man give as an exchange ( a compensation, a ransom, in return) for his life '> in the eternal kingdom of God]?

Sau ce va da un om în schimbul sufletului său?

38 F or whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous (unfaithful) and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the glory (splendor and majesty) of His Father with the holy angels.

Căci de cel ce îi va fi ruşine de Mine şi de cuvintele Mele, în această generaţie adulteră şi păcătoasă, de acela Îi va fi ruşine şi Fiului Omului când va veni în slava Tatălui Său, cu sfinţii îngeri.“
