1 N ow when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, asking,

După ce s-a născut Isus în Betleemul Iudeii, în zilele regelui Irod, iată că nişte magi din Răsărit au venit la Ierusalim

2 W here is He Who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east at its rising and have come to worship Him.

şi au întrebat: „Unde este Împăratul Care li s-a născut de curând iudeilor? Căci I-am văzut steaua în Răsărit şi am venit să ne închinăm Lui!“

3 W hen Herod the king heard this, he was disturbed and troubled, and the whole of Jerusalem with him.

Regele Irod s-a tulburat auzind acest lucru şi, împreună cu el, s-a tulburat tot Ierusalimul.

4 S o he called together all the chief priests and learned men (scribes) of the people and anxiously asked them where the Christ was to be born.

El i-a adunat pe toţi preoţii conducători şi pe toţi cărturarii poporului şi i-a întrebat unde urma să se nască Cristosul.

5 T hey replied to him, In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

Ei i-au răspuns: „În Betleemul Iudeii, căci iată ce a fost scris prin profetul care zice:

6 A nd you Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, you are not in any way least or insignificant among the chief cities of Judah; for from you shall come a Ruler ( Leader) Who will govern and shepherd My people Israel.

«Dar tu, Betleeme, ţinut al lui Iuda, nu eşti nicidecum cel mai neînsemnat dintre conducătorii lui Iuda, căci din tine va ieşi un Conducător Care va păstori poporul Meu, Israel!»“

7 T hen Herod sent for the wise men secretly, and accurately to the last point ascertained from them the time of the appearing of the star '> how long the star had made itself visible since its rising in the east].

Atunci Irod i-a chemat în ascuns pe magi şi a aflat de la ei vremea când apăruse steaua.

8 T hen he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, Go and search for the Child carefully and diligently, and when you have found Him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship Him.

Apoi i-a trimis la Betleem, spunându-le: „Duceţi-vă şi cercetaţi cu atenţie despre Copil, iar când Îl veţi găsi, anunţaţi-mă şi pe mine, ca să vin şi eu să mă închin Lui!“

9 W hen they had listened to the king, they went their way, and behold, the star which had been seen in the east in its rising went before them until it came and stood over the place where the young Child was.

După ce l-au ascultat pe rege, magii au plecat. Şi iată că steaua pe care o văzuseră în Răsărit a mers înaintea lor până când a ajuns şi s-a oprit deasupra locului unde era Copilul.

10 W hen they saw the star, they were thrilled with ecstatic joy.

Ei s-au bucurat nespus de mult la vederea stelei.

11 A nd on going into the house, they saw the Child with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then opening their treasure bags, they presented to Him gifts—gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Când au intrat în casă şi L-au văzut pe Copil împreună cu Maria, mama Lui, s-au prosternat închinându-se înaintea Lui, şi-au deschis cuferele cu comori şi I-au oferit daruri: aur, tămâie şi smirnă.

12 A nd receiving an answer to their asking, they were divinely instructed and warned in a dream not to go back to Herod; so they departed to their own country by a different way.

Apoi, fiind înştiinţaţi de Dumnezeu în vis să nu se mai întoarcă pe la Irod, au pornit înapoi spre ţara lor, pe un alt drum. Fuga în Egipt

13 N ow after they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, Get up! '> Tenderly] take unto you the young Child and His mother and flee to Egypt; and remain there till I tell you, for Herod intends to search for the Child in order to destroy Him.

După ce au plecat ei, un înger al Domnului i s-a arătat în vis lui Iosif şi i-a zis: „Scoală-te, ia Copilul şi pe mama Lui şi fugi în Egipt! Să rămâi acolo până când îţi voi spune eu, căci Irod va căuta Copilul ca să-L omoare!“

14 A nd having risen, he took the Child and His mother by night and withdrew to Egypt

Iosif s-a sculat, a luat Copilul şi pe mama Lui şi a plecat în timpul nopţii în Egipt,

15 A nd remained there until Herod’s death. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, Out of Egypt have I called My Son.

unde a rămas până la moartea lui Irod, ca să se împlinească ceea ce a spus Domnul prin profetul care zice: „L-am chemat pe Fiul Meu din Egipt“.

16 T hen Herod, when he realized that he had been misled by the wise men, was furiously enraged, and he sent and put to death all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that territory who were two years old and under, reckoning according to the date which he had investigated diligently and had learned exactly from the wise men.

Irod s-a înfuriat foarte tare când a văzut că a fost înşelat de magi şi a trimis să fie ucişi toţi băieţii care erau în Betleem şi în toate împrejurimile lui, de la vârsta de doi ani în jos, potrivit cu perioada pe care o aflase de la magi.

17 T hen was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah:

Atunci s-a împlinit ceea ce a fost spus prin profetul Ieremia, care zice:

18 A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because they were no more.

„Un ţipăt a fost auzit în Rama, plânset şi bocet mult: Rahela îşi plânge copiii şi nu vrea să fie mângâiată, căci ei nu mai sunt“. Întoarcerea în Nazaret

19 B ut when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt

După ce a murit Irod, un înger al Domnului i s-a arătat în vis lui Iosif, în Egipt,

20 A nd said, Rise, '> tenderly] take unto you the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the Child’s life are dead.

şi i-a zis: „Scoală-te, ia Copilul şi pe mama Lui şi du-te în ţara lui Israel, căci cei ce căutau să ia viaţa Copilului au murit!”

21 T hen he awoke and arose and '> tenderly] took the Child and His mother and came into the land of Israel.

Iosif s-a sculat, a luat Copilul şi pe mama Lui şi a venit în Israel.

22 B ut because he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being divinely warned in a dream, he withdrew to the region of Galilee.

Dar când a auzit că în Iudeea domnea Arhelau în locul tatălui său Irod, Iosif s-a temut să se ducă acolo şi, fiind înştiinţat de Dumnezeu în vis, a plecat în ţinuturile Galileii.

23 H e went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled: He shall be called a Nazarene.

S-a dus acolo şi a locuit într-o cetate numită Nazaret, ca să se împlinească ce a fost spus prin profeţi, şi anume că El va fi numit nazarinean.
