1 T he word of the Lord which came to Zephaniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah king of Judah and son of Amon.

Cuvântul Domnului care a venit la Ţefania, fiul lui Cuşi, fiul lui Ghedalia, fiul lui Amaria, fiul lui Ezechia, pe vremea lui Iosia, fiul lui Amon, regele lui Iuda: Iminenţa judecăţii

2 B y taking away I will make an end and I will utterly consume and sweep away all things from the face of the earth, says the Lord.

„Voi spulbera totul de pe faţa pământului! zice Domnul.

3 I will consume and sweep away man and beast; I will consume and sweep away the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. I will overthrow the stumbling blocks (the idols) with the wicked, and I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth, says the Lord.

Voi spulbera oamenii şi animalele, voi spulbera păsările cerului şi peştii mării, pietrele de poticnire şi pe cei răi împreună cu ele! Îi voi nimici pe oameni de pe faţa pământului! zice Domnul. Judecată împotriva lui Iuda

4 I will also stretch out My hand over Judah and over all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place and the name of the idol priests with the priests,

Îmi voi întinde mâna împotriva lui Iuda şi împotriva tuturor locuitorilor Ierusalimului! Voi distruge din acest loc orice urmă de închinare la Baal şi numele preoţilor idolatri,

5 A nd those who worship the starry host of the heavens upon their housetops and those who worship the Lord and swear by and to Him and yet swear by and to Malcam,

pe cei ce se închină pe acoperişuri oştirii cerului, pe cei ce se închină jurând pe Domnul, dar care jură şi pe Moleh,

6 A nd those who have drawn back from following the Lord and those who have not sought the Lord nor inquired for, inquired of, and required the Lord.

pe cei care s-au abătut de la Domnul şi pe cei care nu-L mai caută pe Domnul, nici nu mai întreabă de El!

7 B e silent before the Lord God, for the day of the Lord is near; for the Lord has prepared a sacrifice, and He has set apart those who have accepted His invitation.

Să se facă tăcere înaintea Stăpânului Domn, fiindcă ziua Domnului este aproape! Domnul a pregătit o jertfă şi Şi-a pus deoparte oaspeţii.

8 A nd on the day of the Lord’s sacrifice, I will punish the officials and the king’s sons and all who are clothed in foreign apparel.

În ziua jertfei Domnului, îi voi pedepsi pe prinţi şi pe fiii regelui, şi pe toţi cei ce poartă haine străine!

9 I n the same day also will I punish all those who leap swiftly on or over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit and fraud.

În ziua aceea îi voi pedepsi pe toţi cei ce sar peste prag, care umplu templul zeilor lor cu violenţă şi înşelăciune!“

10 A nd in that day, says the Lord, there shall be heard the voice of crying from the Fish Gate and a wailing from the Second Quarter or Lower City and a great crashing and sound of destruction from the hills.

„În ziua aceea, zice Domnul, se va auzi un strigăt de durere dinspre Poarta Peştilor, un urlet dinspre cartierul cel nou şi un mare măcel dinspre dealuri.

11 W ail, you inhabitants of the Mortar! For all the merchant people, like the people of Canaan, will be silent; all those who weighed out silver and were loaded with it will be cut off.

Jeliţi, locuitori ai Macteşului, căci toţi negustorii sunt distruşi, toţi cei ce vând pe argint sunt nimiciţi!

12 A nd at that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish the men who are thickening and settling on their lees, who say in their hearts, The Lord will not do good, nor will He do evil.

În vremea aceea, voi răscoli Ierusalimul cu felinare şi-i voi pedepsi pe cei mulţumiţi, pe cei ce sunt ca vinul care se îngroaşă pe drojdiile lui, pe cei care zic în inimile lor: « Domnul nu va face nici bine, dar nu va face nici rău!»

13 A nd their wealth shall become plunder and their houses a desolation. Though they build houses, they shall not inhabit them; though they plant vineyards, they shall not drink the wine from them.

Averea lor va fi de jaf, iar casele lor vor fi pustiite. Îşi vor zidi case, dar nu vor locui în ele! Îşi vor planta vii, dar nu le vor bea vinul! Ziua cea mare a Domnului

14 T he great day of the Lord is near—near and hastening fast. Hark! the voice of the day of the Lord! The mighty man will cry then bitterly.

Ziua cea mare a Domnului este aproape; este aproape şi se grăbeşte să vină! Vuietul zilei Domnului este amarnic; la fel este şi urletul celui viteaz acolo.

15 T hat day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

Ziua aceea va fi o zi a furiei, o zi de necaz şi strâmtorare, o zi de pustiire şi distrugere, o zi de întuneric şi negură, o zi cu nori şi întunecime,

16 A day of the blast of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the high towers and battlements.

o zi a trâmbiţei şi a strigătului de război împotriva cetăţilor fortificate şi a turnurilor înalte!

17 A nd I will bring distress upon men, so that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord; their blood shall be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.

Voi aduce un aşa necaz asupra oamenilor, încât vor bâjbâi ca nişte orbi, căci au păcătuit împotriva Domnului. Sângele le va fi vărsat ca praful, iar măruntaiele − ca balega.

18 N either their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s indignation and wrath. But the whole earth shall be consumed in the fire of His jealous wrath, for a full, yes, a sudden, end will He make of all the inhabitants of the earth.

Nici argintul şi nici aurul lor nu vor putea să-i scape în ziua furiei Domnului! Întreaga ţară va fi mistuită de focul geloziei Sale, căci El va aduce cu siguranţă o nimicire grabnică asupra tuturor locuitorilor ţării.“
