1 W hen a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a bill of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house,

Dacă un bărbat se va căsători cu o femeie şi se va întâmpla ca ea să nu mai găsească bunăvoinţă în ochii lui, pentru că acesta a descoperit ceva ruşinos la ea, să-i scrie o carte de despărţire, să i-o dea în mână şi s-o lase să plece din casa lui.

2 A nd when she departs out of his house she goes and marries another man,

Dacă ea a ieşit şi a plecat din casa lui, va putea să se căsătorească cu un alt bărbat.

3 A nd if the latter husband dislikes her and writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies, who took her as his wife,

Dacă şi al doilea soţ nu o mai iubeşte, să-i scrie o carte de despărţire, să i-o dea în mână şi s-o lase să plece din casa lui; sau dacă acest al doilea soţ va muri,

4 T hen her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled. For that is an abomination before the Lord; and you shall not bring guilt upon the land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance.

atunci primul soţ, care i-a dat drumul, nu va mai putea să se recăsătorească cu ea, după ce ea s-a necinstit. Aceasta ar fi o urâciune înaintea Domnului. Să nu aduceţi vreun păcat asupra ţării pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, v-a dat-o ca moştenire.

5 W hen a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be charged with any business; he shall be free at home one year and shall cheer his wife whom he has taken.

Dacă un bărbat s-a căsătorit de curând cu o femeie, să nu fie trimis la război, nici să nu i se dea vreo sarcină. Timp de un an să fie scutit din cauza familiei şi să-şi înveselească soţia cu care s-a căsătorit. Reglementări privind dreptatea şi grija pentru ceilalţi

6 N o man shall take a mill or an upper millstone in pledge, for he would be taking a life in pledge.

Să nu iei drept garanţie pietrele de moară – nici piatra de jos, nici piatra de deasupra – deoarece e ca şi cum ai lua drept garanţie viaţa cuiva.

7 I f a man is found kidnapping any of his brethren of the Israelites and treats him as a slave or a servant or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall put evil from among you.

Dacă se va descoperi că un om l-a furat pe unul din fraţii lui israeliţi şi l-a tratat ca pe un sclav sau l-a vândut, hoţul să fie omorât. Să nimiciţi astfel răul din mijlocul vostru.

8 T ake heed in the plague of leprosy, that you watch diligently and do according to all that the Levitical priests shall teach you. As I commanded them, so you shall be watchful and do.

Păziţi-vă de plaga leprei şi împliniţi cu stricteţe ceea ce preoţii leviţi v-au învăţat! Să faceţi tot ce v-au poruncit.

9 R emember what the Lord your God did to Miriam on the way after you had come out of Egypt.

Aduceţi-vă aminte ce i-a făcut Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, lui Miriam pe drum, la ieşirea voastră din Egipt.

10 W hen you lend your brother anything, you shall not go into his house to get his pledge.

Când veţi împrumuta cu ceva pe semenul vostru să nu intraţi în casa lui ca să luaţi lucrul stabilit drept garanţie.

11 Y ou shall stand outside and the man to whom you lend shall bring the pledge out to you.

Să rămâneţi afară şi omul pe care l-aţi împrumutat să vă aducă afară lucrul stabilit drept garanţie.

12 A nd if the man is poor, you shall not keep his pledge overnight.

Dacă omul este sărac, să nu vă culcaţi acoperindu -vă cu lucrul luat drept garanţie de la el.

13 Y ou shall surely restore to him the pledge at sunset, that he may sleep in his garment and bless you; and it shall be credited to you as righteousness (rightness and justice) before the Lord your God.

La apusul soarelui să-i daţi înapoi garanţia ca să se culce în haina lui şi să vă binecuvânteze. Lucrul acesta este considerat drept de Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru.

14 Y ou shall not oppress or extort from a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is of your brethren or of your strangers and sojourners who are in your land inside your towns.

Să nu-l nedreptăţeşti pe angajatul sărac şi în nevoie, fie că este unul dintre cei din poporul tău, fie că este vreun străin care locuieşte în regiunea ta, în cetatea ta.

15 Y ou shall give him his hire on the day he earns it before the sun goes down, for he is poor, and sets his heart upon it; lest he cry against you to the Lord, and it be sin to you.

Să-i dai plata în fiecare zi înainte de apusul soarelui, pentru că este sărac şi sufletul lui o doreşte. Altfel, ar striga împotriva ta către Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi te-ai face vinovat de păcat.

16 T he fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers; only for his own sin shall anyone be put to death.

Să nu-i omori pe părinţi pentru copii şi nici pe copii pentru părinţi. Fiecare om să fie omorât pentru păcatul lui.

17 Y ou shall not pervert the justice due the stranger or the sojourner or the fatherless, or take a widow’s garment in pledge.

Să nu te atingi de dreptul străinului sau al orfanului şi să nu iei drept garanţie haina văduvei.

18 B ut you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this.

Adu-ţi aminte că ai fost sclav în Egipt, iar Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te-a răscumpărat de acolo. De aceea îţi porunceşte să împlineşti poruncile acestea.

19 W hen you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the stranger and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

Când îţi vei secera lanul şi vei uita un snop pe câmp să nu te întorci să-l iei. Lasă-l străinului, orfanului şi văduvei, pentru ca Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, să te binecuvânteze în toată lucrarea mâinilor tale.

20 W hen you beat your olive tree, do not go over the boughs again; the leavings shall be for the stranger and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.

Când îţi vei scutura măslinii să nu te întorci să strângi ce a mai rămas în pomi. Lasă-le străinului, orfanului şi văduvei.

21 W hen you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; it shall be for the stranger and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.

Când îţi vei strânge strugurii din vie să nu te întorci să strângi ce a mai rămas în vie. Lasă ce a mai rămas străinului, orfanului şi văduvei.

22 Y ou shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this.

Adu-ţi aminte că ai fost sclav în ţara Egiptului. De aceea îţi poruncesc să împlineşti aceste porunci.
