1 T he vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord God concerning Edom: We have heard tidings from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent forth among the nations, Arise, and let us rise up against for battle!

Viziunea lui Obadia. Aşa vorbeşte Stăpânul Domn despre Edom: Judecată împotriva Edomului (Noi am auzit un mesaj de la Domnul. Un mesager a fost trimis printre neamuri ca să zică: „Ridicaţi-vă! Să pornim la luptă împotriva lui!“)

2 B ehold, I will make you small among the nations; you shall be despised exceedingly.

„Iată, te voi face mic între neamuri! Vei fi foarte dispreţuit!

3 T he pride of your heart has deceived you, you dweller in the refuges of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, Who can bring me down to the ground?

Aroganţa inimii tale te-a înşelat, pe tine care locuieşti în crăpăturile stâncii, care ai locuinţa pe înălţimi, pe tine care zici în inima ta: «Cine mă va doborî la pământ?»

4 T hough you mount on high as the eagle and though you set your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there, says the Lord.

Chiar dacă te-ai înălţa precum vulturul şi ţi-ai aşeza cuibul între stele, şi de acolo te voi doborî! zice Domnul.

5 I f thieves came to you, if robbers by night—how you are brought to nothing!—would they not steal only enough for themselves? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some grapes for gleaning?

Dacă ar intra la tine nişte hoţi, nişte prădători, în timpul nopţii, (o, cum vei fi de distrus!), n-ar fura ei doar cât ar avea nevoie? Dacă ar veni nişte culegători de struguri la tine, n-ar lăsa ei câţiva ciorchini neculeşi?

6 H ow are the things of Esau searched out! How are his hidden treasures sought out!

O, cât de răvăşit va fi Esau şi cât de răscolite vor fi comorile lui ascunse!

7 A ll the men of your confederacy (your allies) have brought you on your way, even to the border; the men who were at peace with you have deceived you and prevailed against you; they who eat your bread have laid a snare under you. There is no understanding of it.

Toţi cei cu care ai făcut legământ te vor izgoni până la hotar, iar prietenii tăi de încredere te vor înşela şi te vor birui. Cei ce mănâncă din pâinea ta îţi vor întinde o cursă de care nu-ţi vei da seama.

8 W ill not I in that day, says the Lord, destroy the wise men out of Edom and understanding out of Mount Esau ?

În ziua aceea, zice Domnul, oare nu-i voi distruge Eu pe înţelepţii Edomului şi priceperea din muntele lui Esau?

9 A nd your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that everyone from Mount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

Vitejii tăi, Temane, vor fi îngroziţi, astfel că toţi cei din muntele lui Esau vor fi ucişi în măcel. Motivul condamnării Edomului

10 F or the violence you did against your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.

Din cauza violenţei faţă de fratele tău Iacov vei fi acoperit de ruşine, vei fi distrus pentru totdeauna.

11 O n the day that you stood aloof —on the day that strangers took captive his forces and carried off his wealth, and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem—you were even as one of them.

În ziua în care ai stat deoparte, în ziua în care străinii îi luau averea, atunci când necunoscuţii intrau pe porţile lui şi trăgeau la sorţi pentru Ierusalim, ai fost şi tu ca unul dintre ei!

12 B ut you should not have gloated over your brother’s day, the day when his misfortune came and he was made a stranger; you should not have rejoiced over the sons of Judah in the day of their ruin; you should not have spoken arrogantly in the day of their distress.

N-ar fi trebuit să priveşti mulţumit la fratele tău în ziua nenorocirii lui, nici să te bucuri de urmaşii lui Iuda în ziua nimicirii lor şi nici să te lauzi în ziua strâmtorării lor!

13 Y ou should not have entered the gate of My people in the day of their calamity and ruin; yes, you should not have looked on their misery in the day of their calamity and ruin, and not have reached after their army and their possessions in the day of their calamity and ruin.

N-ar fi trebuit să intri pe porţile poporului Meu în ziua nenorocirii lui, nici să priveşti mulţumit la necazul acestuia în ziua nenorocirii sale şi nici să pui mâna pe averea sa în ziua nenorocirii lui!

14 A nd you should not have stood at the crossway to cut off those of Judah who escaped, neither should you have delivered up those who remained in the day of distress.

N-ar fi trebuit să stai la răspântii pentru a-i ucide pe fugarii lui, nici să-i predai supravieţuitorii în ziua strâmtorării lui! Domnul va judeca toate neamurile

15 F or the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your dealings will return upon your own head.

Căci ziua Domnului este aproape pentru toate neamurile! Cum ai făcut, aşa ţi se va face, şi faptele tale se vor întoarce asupra capului tău!

16 F or as you have drunk upon the mountain of My holiness, so shall all the nations drink continually; yes, they shall drink, talk foolishly, and swallow down and they shall be as though they had not been.

După cum voi aţi băut cupa mâniei pe muntele Meu cel sfânt, tot aşa o vor bea necurmat toate neamurile. Vor bea, vor înghiţi şi vor fi ca şi când n-ar fi existat vreodată. Israel restaurat

17 B ut on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess its possessions.

Dar pe muntele Sion va fi izbăvirea! El va fi sfânt, iar cei din Casa lui Iacov îşi vor lua iarăşi în stăpânire proprietăţile!

18 T he house of Jacob shall be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame, but the house of Esau shall be stubble; they shall kindle and burn them and consume them, and there shall be no survivor of the house of Esau, for the Lord has spoken it.

Casa lui Iacov va fi un foc, iar Casa lui Iosif – o flacără. Casa lui Esau va fi o mirişte pe care o vor aprinde şi o vor mistui, şi nu va mai rămâne nici un supravieţuitor al Casei lui Esau, căci Domnul a vorbit!

19 T hey of the South (the Negeb) shall possess Mount Esau, and they of the lowland the land of the Philistines; they shall possess the land of Ephraim and the fields of Samaria, and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

Cei din Neghev vor lua în stăpânire muntele lui Esau, iar cei din zona deluroasă vor lua în stăpânire ţara filistenilor! Ei vor lua stăpânire ţinutul lui Efraim şi ţinutul Samariei, iar Beniamin va lua în stăpânire Ghiladul!

20 A nd the exiles of this host of the children of Israel who are among the Canaanites shall possess as far as Zarephath, and the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad shall possess the cities of the South (the Negeb).

Oastea aceasta de exilaţi israeliţi care sunt în Canaan vor lua în stăpânire ţara până la Sarepta, iar exilaţii Ierusalimului, care sunt în Sefarad, vor lua în stăpânire cetăţile din Neghev!

21 A nd deliverers shall go up on Mount Zion to rule and judge Mount Esau, and the kingdom and the kingship shall be the Lord’s.

Izbăvitorii se vor sui pe muntele Sion ca să judece muntele lui Esau. Şi Împărăţia va fi a Domnului!“
