1 С амуил, когато остаря, постави синовете си съдии над Израиля.

¶ And it came to pass when Samuel was old that he made his sons judges over Israel.

2 И мето на първородния му беше Иоил, а името на втория му Авия; те бяха съдии във Вир-савее.

Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abiah; they were judges in Beersheba.

3 Н о синовете му не ходеха в неговите пътища, но се отклониха <та отиваха> след сребролюбието, и вземаха подкуп, и извръщаха правосъдието.

And his sons did not walk in his ways but turned aside after greed, receiving bribes and perverting that which is right.

4 Т огава всичките Израилеви старейшини се събраха, та дойдоха при Самуила в Рама и му рекоха:

¶ Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together and came to Samuel in Ramah

5 Е то, ти остаря, и синовете ти не ходят в твоите пътища; постави ни, прочее, цар, който да ни съди, както е у всичките народи.

and said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons do not walk in thy ways; therefore make us a king to judge us like all the Gentiles.

6 О баче на Самуила не бе угодно гдето рекоха: Дай ни цар, който да ни съди. И Самуил се помоли на Господа.

But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

7 А Господ каза на Самуила: Послушай гласа на людете за всичко, що ти говорят, защото не отхвърлиха тебе, но Мене отхвърлиха, за да не царувам над тях.

And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee, for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me that I should not reign over them.

8 С поред всичките дела, които те са вършили от деня, когато съм ги извел от Египет дори до тоя ден, като са Ме оставяли и са служили на други богове, така правят и на тебе.

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, with which they have forsaken me and served other gods, so they also do unto thee.

9 С ега, прочее, слушай гласа им, обаче тържествено протестирай пред тях, и покажи им как ще постъпва царят, който ще царува над тях.

Now, therefore, hearken unto their voice; however first protest solemnly against them by declaring unto them the rights of the king that shall reign over them.

10 С амуил, прочее, каза всичките Господни думи на людете, които искаха цар от него.

And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked him for a king.

11 К аза още: Така ще постъпва царят, който ще се възцари над вас; ще взема синовете ви и ще ги определя за колесниците си, и да му бъдат конници, и за да тичат пред колесниците му.

And he said, This will be the right of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen, and some shall run before his chariot.

12 И ще си ги назначава хилядници и петдесетници, и <ще ги поставя> да работят земята му, да жънат жетвата му, и да правят военните му оръжия и приборите за колесниците му.

And he will appoint captains over thousands and captains over fifties and will set them to plough his ground and to reap his harvest and to make his weapons of war and the munitions of his chariots.

13 Щ е взема и дъщерите ви за мироварици и готвачки и хлебарки.

And he will take your daughters to be confectioneries and to be cooks and to be bakers.

14 И ще взема по-добрите от нивите ви, лозята ви и маслините ви и ще ги дава на слугите си.

And he will take your fields and your vineyards and your good oliveyards and give them to his slaves.

15 Щ е взема и десетъка от посевите ви и от лозята ви и ще ги дава на скопците си и на слугите си.

And he will take the tenth of your seed and of your vineyards to give to his officers and to his slaves.

16 И ще взема слугите ви, слугините ви, по-добрите момчета, и ослите ви и ще ги употребява в своите работи.

And he will take your menslaves and your maidslaves and your good young men and your asses and do his work with them.

17 Щ е взема десетък от стадата ви; и вие ще му бъдете слуги.

He will also take the tenth of your sheep, and finally ye shall be his slaves.

18 В оня ден ще викате поради царя си, когото ще сте си избрали; но Господ няма да ви послуша в оня ден.

And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you, and the LORD will not hear you in that day.

19 О баче, людете не искаха да послушат Самуиловия глас, а рекоха: Не, но цар нека има над нас,

Nevertheless, the people refused to hear the voice of Samuel, and they said, No, but we will have a king over us

20 з а да бъдем и ние както всичките народи, и нашият цар да ни съди, и да ни предвожда, и да воюва в боевете ни.

that we also may be like all the Gentiles and that our king may govern us and go out before us and fight our battles.

21 И Самуил, като изслуша всичките думи на людете, каза ги в ушите на Господа.

And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.

22 А Господ каза на Самуила: Послушай гласа им и постави им цар. Тогава Самуил каза на Израилевите мъже: Идете всеки в града си.

And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and place a king over them. Then Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go each one unto his city.
